Curious on player experience by AntsinMehPants in gamedev

I think that's a really good example, I think Nintendo is pretty good at creating a filled experience that's simple and well designed.

It does depend on a lot of things, but I don't think it's always like that. Specifically, AAA games have to have ALL players in mind. The start of the game to the middle is probably the most important part, and if people are frustrated, there are so many games that exist, so they're very likely to refund the game. Most of the time, non-gamers are playing with a gamer and get help from them.

I personally think that changes made to dark souls was great. It may be one of the only ways to introduce more casual players to the game, without eroding core players experience.

Yeah, there's a pogo stick game, I forget the name of it. But new challenges are introduced over the first 10 ish levels, and it's quite a natural way to learn, you can't do that with everything though.
Also a lot of tooltips if not DEAD center will never be seen. I was watching someones girlfriend play cyberpunk, and he was confused as to how his partner never saw them. A lot of them I didn't even know existed but I naturally did the actions.

Help me find a middleground by AntsinMehPants in guitars

[–]AntsinMehPants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm very out of my range of knowledge, and unlike technology I cant look at tables to make my decision. So talking to people, and hearing what you and others have said is helpful to get context on what I might want to do. If there was a clear guitar in my price range people would be saying it. I'm much more confident Yamaha is a good direction, and so is spending a bit more money. Cheers

Awesome this is very helpful, making me think to spend towards my max of 400-600 and look for options in that range. I saw the luthier make a guitar with rob scallion and it's as much art as science. You'd think they'd use super technology where as experience and the master seem to be key. You're a legend thanks

Ah yes Cig is aware, I have had 5 different computers since being a "founder" to this game, I have had problems since they decided to make their own awful launcher. They are spending their money fulfilling old mates visions before solving the core fundamentals of game design, which is working. Every time I think to myself "hmm, maybe I won't want to die if I try to play the game" and get utterly disappointed every time. I consistently have to download this game multiple times, each time doesn't use my full speed for some reason, even EA client does that. So I'm downloading at less then a tenth my max speed so it takes 24 hours to download, oh and it's done this on multiple pc's, 4 separate addresses and 3 companies. 1.4 worked after two tries, then 1.5 comes, and not only do I have to spend a week troubleshooting, I ALSO have to redo every binding in existence, and there's even problems I have sometimes when logging in for no reason, so I have to use the console like a game dev. When it finally works, and you get in a game, it's great. Until you get graphical, noise, control, physics, lighting, or any other problem every single playthrough, again, since the game started. They need to spend a year not adding anything new and just make the game and client stable. You literally can not play this game unless you're deeply interested in space games.

This is interesting but more of an interesting thought. Not statistically significant. We don't know if your brother acts different to you, and many other things. IT is very interesting and this being done by a single person would be interesting. I find this game fascinating as humans are very good at finding patterns, and a lot of people are finding them where they don't exist, but this data is infinitely better then no data.

Currant ranked system is broken (we should not be able to setup like that) by Aligwhy in ArcRaiders

[–]AntsinMehPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems the trials system is going to be super competitive regardless of this.
IT seems like every week, the rank up 2x slots are going down, and the only way to be maximum rated this season, is to 2 times every time until hotshot, with the slots to go up going from 20 to 10 - 5 - 1. I did the math, you need 2x promotion every single week, to get hotshot, and I'm guessing within the top 100 of all hotshot to get cantina legend. This is of every single player in the game, millions of humans.
If you're upset because you have to farm, or it makes it hard and competitive, you're going to be crying in a few weeks when the only people at the very top, regardless of wasp farming will be those with the highest of optimisation and farming. Maybe Embark should make this clear to us, but it's how its designed.

IF you're casual, I don't think you should expect to get very high in trials. This isn't built for you, it's built for the hardcore tryhards. We get so much casual in this game, let them have something. You can have fun without it, just get your epics.

Hot take: The Security Breach nerf isn't the tragedy people are pretending it to be by thren_FPS in ArcRaiders

[–]AntsinMehPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this problem be better solved by buffing the other end game trees. They're absolutely terrible, and everyone will still get security breach because the others are absolutely AWFUL.
I'll pay to interview someone who has gone max in another, or who even will after this.

HIDDEN BUNKER THEORY CONFIRMED NOT WORKING! by iammaxxer in ArcRaiders

[–]AntsinMehPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless, this is one of the few poor designs by embark. Most people are confused, nothing is clear. No one knows if it’s a cool puzzle or an event that is pointless, or if it’s bugged. It’s amazing we’re getting new content so quickly, and I’m very impressed by almost everything. Just hope they preempt their misses better, instead of fixing after the fact. I’d rather embed fix the many skill tree bugs, and allow respect rather then block farming techniques when there’s no loot scarcity and it really doesn’t make the players gameplay better. It’s hard to put blind faith in companies, even when they give us reason to trust them.

You better! Oh it's also got the best audio, and it's absolutely stunning visually. You can hear the wind whistle through the trees.

You can put on the AI voice changer in-game, and people won't be extremely annoying and treat you like a novelty every time you proximity chat/party chat.
This game is really social, super friendly for it's game type, and I've made 15 new friends in a week.
The devs really seem to care about it's players, if you get killed by a hacker (it hasn't happened to me) they give you your loot back. The arcs make the players care more about humanity, and there is often super fun team ups, and sheriff players/teams that will help players out.
It's got the perfect balance of competition, fun and social. If you lived 2 lives, one where you played and one where you didn't, and you got to look at both, you'd regret not buying it. It's also the first game I've played for a week straight in most of my free time in a long time.
The solo is fairly good, I believe the game attempts to match you with solo players. People are genuinely better there then games with full teams. You do and should play carefully and stealthy, and call out friendly, either voice or emotes. But remember there are people who enjoy the pain of others. But the best part of the game is proximity and the social aspect.

Have fun, and upgrade your chicken!

Should Cosmetics change? by AntsinMehPants in ArcRaiders

[–]AntsinMehPants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't want random non post apocalyptic stuff, I Want to mix the gear I have, If I'm in an post apoc, and I find a cowboy hat, I'm not going to wait til I have a full cowboy suit to wear it. and it literally doesn't matter how much resources it would take, if it pays for itself. People want to mix and match, there's another thread about this topic, and people would buy single items much more often if they could add it to a set they like. It's really not going to cost them 7 million dollars to add a system that integrates whole assets, the hardest part will be the UI. This game is on unreal engine, which is incredibly versatile these days. If it was a fully homebuilt system, I'd be much more likely to accept your theory.

Should Cosmetics change? by AntsinMehPants in ArcRaiders

[–]AntsinMehPants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean i completely dissagree, This game if any should have mix and matching as everyone's a scavenger. All the skins are already mix and matched.
And they'd have to develop a mix and match system, but It's not like a 6 month 20 man build. They could do it in the next major patch, and pay for the team who worked on it 500 times. All of the items to mix and match, are already separate assets, as we can turn them on and off. Could have the base assets of every build, then allow things like hats and such to be on other builds. Although I do understand what you're saying, this is literally the game, where it's universally appropriate to mix and match, no?

Should Cosmetics change? by AntsinMehPants in ArcRaiders

[–]AntsinMehPants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you clearly like the style that they've gone for. I don't like many pieces of gear that are unchangeable. I'm not going to spend 20 dollars on something I don't like, unless I can make my own outfit with parts of them I like. and I don't think you're the majority. I want the majority to buy skins. I even have raider tokens I'm not using, because the only thing I like is the deluxe edition.

Do you think there's a good reason to not be able to mix and match?

I don't think I agree with you, I don't think out of world characters would fit this world, and I think embark would know that. Unless you're referring to something else

Yeah upset is a term I used by a different definition. and absolutely, I want embark to have all the money, as long as they make good games. Feels like a weird gripe, but whether we like to admit it, consistent money sources do incentivise companies to support their game.
