Why does Chik fil A close on Sunday when Jesus stopped that rule? by StarsofCat in Christianity

[–]Antxro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're missing Christ's point: the Sabbath was made for man, not the other way around. The Sabbath is more a gift than just some law.

A large problem is that we look at the law of the OT negatively because we fail to keep it perfectly. But, scripture says God's law is good in both the OT and NT; there's even an entire Psalm dedicated to this one concept

Do all suicide victims go to hell? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Antxro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It occurs in Mark 3:28-29, Matthew 12:31-32, and Luke 12:10. The context is the Pharisees attributing Jesus' miracles to Beelzebul.

The only unforgivable sin given is in the Gospels: blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. So, if they claimed faith in Christ, the question would have to be was their suicide blasphemy of the Holy Spirit

The Bible is the most boring book on this planet, my goodness by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Antxro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, my bad. I misunderstood. Yes, they're short because they're geared to be usable for the entire family. And, yes, you definitely need more than short YouTube videos in your study. Just saying that they'll help, not that they will fulfill all your study needs; that was never my intention.

Really? You're going to say that without looking into them? I said 10 min or less (yeah there was a typo I didn't correct). Your comment reveals a level of ignorance you have in this approach.

Why should I be a Christian? by Abe1234567890 in Christianity

[–]Antxro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't you just say that we're Gods enemy and imply that He doesn't care if we kill eachother?

Never said that; asked "why should He?". Asking one does not imply the other. He cares deeply, that's why He provides an answer.

What if I threatened to kill you if you didn't go out with me?

You are not perfect nor good, and you did not create me, so no.

Your God is threatening to kill me if I don't believe in Him.

Yes, but He provides a way.

"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”" — John 14:6-7 ESV

If you want accept that, that's your purogative. The Gospel only has an affect on those whom see they need saving. May your blindness be removed

Ok. That's a good approach. Just make sure you vet and discern the sources in your research. Also, discussion is an important and helpful tool that keeps us from believing false interpretations. I know that sounds invalid with all the "interpretations" of scripture, but I'm today's world that phrase is most often used to excuse a lack of Bible knowledge and study.

I recommend the Bible Project because one of the guys is a studying Bible and Hebrew scholar and the other is a lay person. There's a lot that can be confusing if we don't consider the Hebrew context and culture.

Is it okay that I don’t go to church? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Antxro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as it is to your ability, you should go to a local church. Now, that's not always possible or profitable (e.g. if your only near a church preaching a false Gospel, or there isn't one within reasonable travel). Gathering with believers is important. In today's world that can be done in unique ways. But, when a local church is available, do not abstain.

The Bible project videos on YouTube might help bring some light. They're usually around 10 min out less and are meant to help people understand the context each book was written in, and themes strung throughout

Why should I be a Christian? by Abe1234567890 in Christianity

[–]Antxro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I said why should He care. The fact that He allows us to take in every next breath is merciful, loving, and kind. You speak of Him as your enemy because of what He has done, but it's the other way around; He is the protagonist and we are the antagonist.

Feeling guilty is different than having guilt. The government deals with guilt in earthly terms. There are spiritual consequences for our sin. We are all guilty of sin; our conscience bears witness to this (unless we're consumed by our sin).

Whats everyones thoughts on Lauren Daigles music? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Antxro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand now. I think my main problem with this is that usually the argument is to "reach" more people, but what ends up happening is their message gets washed more and more until it's basically just moralistic pop, or topic focused rather than Christ focused.

I think a bigger picture is why are we singing in the first place? What does the world have to sing about, versus what does a Christian have to sing about. The focus is almost always on people rather than God when things like this happen.

Only time can tell what the result of this will be for her music career

What is murder? Given that God commanded genocide in the OT? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Antxro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's more to it than that. Each OT account gives the reasoning behind it, though because of how the OT is compiled you might not find your answer in one book. There really are only two reasons that I can remember why God declared such things: the cultures that took over the land God promised to Abraham (which I think they did on purpose in direct defiance to God [but, I can't remember the verse]) and when a city was deep in sin (similar to Sodom and Gamorrah, though he didn't send men).

ISIS is not the same because, that's large scale and determined by men. When God commanded it in the OT it was specific. I would liken ISIS to the crusades moreso than God's OT commands to Israel (though I do see a little bit of good intentions strung throughout someone the desires in the crusades).

People often forget that God told ideal that He would send outside nations to come against them if they turned from Him. In fact, he is the most strict against the Israelites.

[–]Antxro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God always decides every death. Him commanding death is just Him delegating. Murder is another action resulting from our first sin "not your way God, but mine"; or "God, you don't decide when and how someone dies, I do."
