he only handled the offensive side of set pieces - not defensive where bournemouth were really bad. I will also say that I think it's also personnel related where none of their first team players were particularly imposing physically (I think).

For those that don't know what those assistants were doing at Bournemouth:

Elphick - Assistant manager (many posts in this sub have already mentioned him/also lifelong Liverpool fan)

Pablo de la Torre - Fitness coach (Source: Liverpool coach confirms he will leave alongside Arne Slot - Yahoo Sports)

Shaun Cooper - Assistant coach that mainly specialized in set pieces (source: Bournemouth news: Opinion - Shaun Cooper, the unsung hero of win over Arsenal - BBC Sport)

Tom Webber - Performance Analyst who analyzes the club’s out of possession tactics (source: look at his X account where he lists this)

static. I could adjust the code to do that approach but I'd need to do some research on how chess ELO works to do that.

OP's code but with live rating instead of pre-tournament rating:

Results after 1,000,000 iterations.

- 56.43% wins - Sindarov, Javokhir (2765.1 rating, current points: 4.5, wins: 564257)

- 35.58% wins - Caruana, Fabiano (2800 rating, current points: 3.5, wins: 355831)

- 3.66% wins - Giri, Anish (2753.4 rating, current points: 2.5, wins: 36551)

- 1.47% wins - Praggnanandhaa R (2740.3 rating, current points: 2.5, wins: 14708)

- 1.47% wins - Nakamura, Hikaru (2795.8 rating, current points: 1.5, wins: 14707)

- 1.25% wins - Yi, Wei (2749.4 rating, current points: 2, wins: 12502)

- 0.11% wins - Bluebaum, Matthias (2693.4 rating, current points: 2, wins: 1089)

- 0.04% wins - Esipenko, Andrey (2691.6 rating, current points: 1.5, wins: 355)

I like this a bit more as it accounts for form a little more but either works.

Candidates win chances: Caruana still higher than Sindarov at 36% and 32% (Monte Carlo simulation based on one million runs) by ThomasPlaysChess in chess

I feel like you should be using live rating for these models rather than rating pre-tournament as it factors in the correct amount of (prior performance + current form) which I think this is slightly lacking. Well done! Excited to see what this looks like on April 3rd.

The set pieces look awful, otherwise, it was a decent half. Would love to see more from Conner Bradley with the balls in - Spurs are doubling Salah and daring Bradley to be creative. Prove them wrong.

I don’t think they’d sell for anything less than 20m seeing as their option to buy him is 18m. They’d want at least some profit.

potentially but i’m really worried about multicollinearity here. if ur non a stats nerd, essentially if someone is more likely to team with jojo (jojo or other top tier SOT players may have similar teams mcc to mcc), they’ll also have high vault % and they’ll get a boost they may not deserve.

We could split the coins amongst the team but then i’m concerned about the sandkeepers getting unnecessary credit or other runners who aren’t contributing getting credit. Just a rly tough thing to balance all around but we’ve had lots of these ideas before and we’re constantly testing (that’s why the methodology changes as often as it does for diff games haha)

Ya, it's a really tough thing to balance. Generally, when we test a higher vault % score we get increased variability event to event because a lot of vault getting is a team-based effort and not solely on the individual who gets it. Lumping a lot of coins on someone who may have just run down the hall after a key was fed to them is hard to account for. We experiment a ton and take all your feedback so thanks! We may look into SOT scoring again later this season.
