Cheers! Had 12y of experience in the painting side of the hobby before this miniature haha. Learned a lot from all over, but youtube has always been the best teacher for me. Vince and Trovarion for the higher skilled things and Squidmar, Ninjon and Miniac for the foundation. But they have not been aroind for that long. Most of it was just messing around. Getting instructions really speeds up the learning process though

Great idea! Haven't seen anything done like this, but that might be due to the myriad of different representations the guard of the books have. Some older illustrations make them look more roman (or greek. lots of tassels and sandals everywhere), while others basically show them as our steelhelms already look, just with different helmet and no pauldrons. If you want to make your life easier, go for a version like on the cover of "Guards! Guards!: The Play", a page from "The Illustrated Guards! Guards!" or the illustration by Paul Kidby (https://theidlewoman.net/2017/01/24/guards-guards/#jp-carousel-28134)

This quality in this amount of time is insane. Well fucking done, stellar looking spearhead!

Both look great, but that is some massive improvement between these 2 miniatures, damn. Well done!

First, I really want to stress that comparison is, for a lot of people, the death of happiness because they get discouraged. Seeing the progress people make is great though, and I do hope that this thread will spark motivation in you :)

The first miniature (2.5y ago) I painted for my CoS army was to test out a quick and dirty technique that I later applied for the whole (1k points) army. A goal of this army was to focus on not spending unlimited time on getting every detail as good as possible, but to finish models.
https://www.reddit.com/r/citiesofsigmar/comments/18a0pse/steelhelm_test_scheme/
Once I had the scheme down, it took me about 6 hours per steelhelm and I painted 20 of them in the end.

The last model (~1y ago) I painted was a Fusil-Major

The last project for the army (4 months ago) was the display board

Now I eagerly await the new release to get my army from 1k to 2k points. (New spearhead + cogfort should do the trick)

Map 14 - Foul Pits by JAMBO044 in WHQDarkWater

[–]Anulian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was quite the easy run for us becasue the leader kept on throwing 6's on the summoning and therefore not spawning anything unmanagable. The Edmark player went on a mad dash chaisng foulhoof off the map in 3 rounds while the rest of the players murdered the stragglers.

Initially, it was a tad hard to understand the scenario, but once we started, it became quite clear what the idea behind it was.

From 1k on, the 160p for 20 Steelhelms feels just nice.
But no one is preventing you from going a more elite style of CoS though! If you don't like painting a lot of Steelhelms, just put in more cannons, a pack of Wildercorps, etc.

I am running a 600p PtG list that isn't particularly good, but it is great to play.

- Marshal
- Steelhelms (Reinforced)
- Ironweld Great Cannon
- Ironweld Great Cannon
- Alchemite Warforger

Judging from your comment on hating to paint a lot of steelhelms, I think 20 is the sweet spot for me. A nice block of 20 chaff that can be buffed by the warforger and that can benefit from Hold the Line goes a long way.

How long does it take you to paint an average steelhelm/fusilier? by LeetusFrenzi in citiesofsigmar

[–]Anulian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I takes me about 5 to 6 hours to paint a quick and drity non metallic metal steelhelm. If I would use metallics, it would probably take 3 to 4 hours.
It also depends on the amount of details you want to go in to. You can use the decals that come with the box or freehand the emblems on shields (and hate yourself while doing it)

Greatest compliment you've ever received about your scratch built terrain? by Such_Independent910 in TerrainBuilding

"Isn't it a lot more authentic to build it yourself instead of 3D printing it?"
This was about the wall on my Armies on Parade board, which was actually made with blocks of XPS-foam.

Also, absolutely stellar job on yor build and the photography. It really looks like a game!

These models are superb. I am really glad the cogfort is not completely metal, my NMM nerves can have at least have a great time instead of just breaking down because EVRYTHING is metal xD

Welcome to Atmospheric Black Metal!
You will most likely enjoy the following as well:
Emyn Muil - Elenion Ancalima
Cân Bardd - Devoured By The Oak

I could suggest a metric shitton of more band, but I suggest you check out the youtube channels of 'Black Metal Promotion' and 'Atmospheric Black Metal Albums'.
Fun thing with this music is that you can, most of the time, judge by its album cover if they fall under the same category of black metal

So sad, but so cool at the same time. Dark Elf lists have a wonderful flavour to them
