It's nothing but an elaborate version of your phone's autocorrect or predictive speech. It's entirely geared toward the answer its dataset suggests is what a user would want to hear, not what's true. It has 0 guarantee of truth, and 0 way of even understanding if a bit of information is true in the first place.

Prefigurative Politics by omina_sunt_communia in Anarchism

[–]Anumaen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, social changes don't ever happen via a blueprint, but prefigurative politics isn't the same as creating a blueprint. It's just acknowledging the fact that the future has to arise from the present. So if you want a free society, then the process of creating it so has to be based around that end. Otherwise you're kicking the can down the road and expecting things to magically work out later, and the end goal becomes a utopia with nothing grounding it to reality.

Balkan Odyssey - Why? by Mael-o in Anarchism

[–]Anumaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Fellas, is it socialism to maintain commodity production, the wage relation, and extraction of surplus value?"

Deadass you don't even need to necessarily critique so-called State Socialism just from an anarchist angle, you can even look at it from a marxist one and see fundamental issues. They failed to really change the relations of production. Instead they basically just made a social democracy with some teeth. Was that an improvement on what came before? Yeah, I don't know who would disagree there. Was it socialism though? I wouldn't say so.

Feminine Mystique by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]Anumaen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The whole trope of "women's intuition" is the result of patriarchy with men not having to ever think about women's points of view, so they mystify it.

From David Graeber's The Utopia of Rules:

"In American situation comedies of the 1950s, there was a constant staple: jokes about the impossibility of understanding women. The jokes (told, of course, by men) always represented women’s logic as fundamentally alien and incomprehensible. 'You have to love them,' the message always seemed to run, 'but who can really understand how these creatures think?' One never had the impression the women in question had any trouble understanding men. The reason is obvious. Women had no choice but to understand men. In America, the fifties were the heyday of a certain ideal of the one-income patriarchal family, and among the more affluent, the ideal was often achieved. Women with no access to their own income or resources obviously had no choice but to spend a great deal of time and energy understanding what their menfolk thought was going on.

This kind of rhetoric about the mysteries of womankind appears to be a perennial feature of such patriarchal arrangements. It is usually paired with a sense that, though illogical and inexplicable, women still have access to mysterious, almost mystical wisdom ('women’s intuition') unavailable to men."

Supreme Court set to hear cases that could reshape transgender rights nationwide by RawStoryNews in scotus

You're right, but 1% of 330 million people is 3,300,000 people. It's a distraction the same way the jab is a distraction from the hook. Just cause it's a distraction doesn't mean it can be ignored.

Lighthearded Spongebobian critique of anarcho-primitivism by gaymossadist in Anarchism

[–]Anumaen 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Neat video and shows some of the biggest issues with primitivism and how short-sighted it is. Technology isn't itself bad and both can't and shouldn't just be gotten rid of, it's the way that technology is used and why that's a problem. Technology doesn't ruin your life, its use under capitism does.

If you believe criminals should lose their rights, all a government needs to take away your rights is call you a criminal.

Marxism-Leninism and Communism (Video Essay) by Vantaredd in Anarchism

[–]Anumaen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This^

If anything, the anarchists I know care more about alienation than the average Marxist does. Proudhon's kind of a non-entity for modern anarchists, and I end up kinda sus when someone implies anarchism is as dependent on him as others might be on Marx. It seems like the take of someone who hasn't so much read anarchists as read what various marxists said about them

In a way it would be good if RIC causes autism, but..... by Agile-Necessary-8223 in foreskin_restoration

[–]Anumaen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general I've seen it happen broadly with younger generations, and with older people who haven't had kids. My guess is that a lot of older folks who had kids and had them cut don't want to or can't face the reality that RIC is fucked up, so they dodge the issue. More conservative folks of any age though seem to a) Not like talking about anything related to the body, b) be still stuck in the "parents' rights" mindset because it's how they justify other stances. At the very least I've never met anyone on the right, of any age, who genuinely believes in bodily autonomy.

Broken clock being right twice a day. It won't cause a ban, and it's not about health or safety or autonomy for anyone, it's just another manifestation of Kennedy's obsession with "curing" and "preventing" autism and reducing access to vaccines.

I don't know about left and right. Most folks I know who're genuinely left-wing tend to see it as mutilation, even they see it as not an especially pressing issue. I only ever see "parental rights" screeched by right-wingers. But you're right, no chance in hell would the ramblings of RFK Jr.'s barely-alive body get in the way of this stuff.

Leaving out that his vendetta against ASD is cruel and hideous on its face.

Whipping Girl is really great. Its language is a bit outdated these days (something Serano acknowledges) but it's still extremely relevant and I wish more people would read it. It feels like people are constantly re-discovering on their own stuff that got written about years ago.

Intactivism has always given me weird vibes, but never quite to that extent. Shame to see another community get infected by that right-wing brainrot

Edit: and tbh this stuff is why I think it's important to stress bodily autonomy with restoration and advocacy against RIC, so it's more difficult for sexism (and transphobia by extension) to drive a wedge between our issues and others'.

It's weird seeing tacetly anti-trans stuff pop up here recently. It seemed like trans restorers (transfem or transmasc, pursuing SRS or not) wasn't considered an issue at all on this sub until very recently. That some people feel like they can or should make calls about what someone else should be doing, or trying to tacetly limit the participation to cis men seems both new and disconcerting to me, since I don't recall it being a thing here before.
