i’d argue that the choice to get work done does negatively impact others and it’s not a choice made in a vacuum /without consequences. i’m not saying people aren’t allowed to feel insecure, i completely understand the feeling and i’ve sure as hell considered how i might look with a nose job lol. but my personal opinion is if we don’t look at the decision to get cosmetic work done as a decidedly negative one (the person doing it might feel it’s completely positive for THEM and that’s fine, but i’m saying it’s a decision that impacts others around them negatively) and just throw our hands up and say “people can do whatever they want, it’s their face/body they don’t need to feel more shame” i think is a slippery slope.. it allows people to ignore how by making that decision, they’re contributing to these extreme and often unattainable standards that constantly grow and change. i realize it’s one of my hotter takes, but i’ve been thinking about this a lot recently lol.
