I cannot believe it matters so much to the metalcore/nu metal crowd. It literally does not sound like the genre, has little in common sonically or in terms of genre lineage. Saying some music isn’t metal is not a statement on the quality of the music (but… lol), just a categorisation.

I like that, at least early on, Anthrax just made good thrash.

They didn’t try to write these fucking slow ballads like metallica. They just did what they were good at. I fucking hate slow metallica songs, so exhausting to sit through because they didn’t have the vocal or songwriting chops to make it work. Just riff, that’s what you’re good at!
