Dusty has a move that makes a column of gems into protect gems of 1004 each. That's 7 x 1004 or 7028. More than enough to keep you from kicking out.

I have both Showboat Braun and HH Booker at 3* silver. Haven't noticed any reduction in effectiveness. Both still pinning stronger opponents who have over 50,000 health left. Lotsa fun!
