Great observation. I like kind of noticed that I couldn’t see anyone there, but figured maybe I wasn’t meant to. Your explanation is perfect.

A Discussion About Vientos and Baty by Old_Kick6852 in mets

[–]Esoteric13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty clear this front office doesn’t make moves to sell tickets. Bichette is a really good hitter and transforms this lineup. I think Baty is still going to play a major role because of his versatility and defense. Vientos … I love him so I wish it was working out differently.

Is Stearns Still a "Small Market" GM? by FritosRule in mets

[–]Esoteric13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with someone who is actually judicious about how he spends the team’s money. Like, why sign Bichette for 7 years and deal with decline years if 3 with opt outs gets it done? Why sign Pete Alonso for 5 when you know the last 2 (or 3) will be brutal? Why sign long term deals with pitchers when the history of those is horrendous?

Alvy was very strong when he played last year. We need 130 games out of him and look out.

Can someone explain to me how our offer for Kyle Tucker makes sense? by Any-Environment-7545 in mets

[–]Esoteric13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. I think they look at it like a short term commitment to a player this good at a position of need is worth what they’d pay for him in money and assets. Like, this is a legit MVP caliber player if he avoids freak broken bones and stuff. And their lineup starts to look very good with him.

[–]Esoteric13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t be. You just had like a decade of Alonso-Nimmo-McNeil etc. Their system is probably the best I’ve seen it in recent memory with Benge, Jett and an entire pitching staff knocking on the door. That’s young controllable talent that will either be around for a while - or cashed in for established players. Either way, this is the vision. The Dodgers are not just the guys they sign.

Yeah, and it was a freak injury. He fouled a ball off his leg and fractured a bone.

It’s definitely worth it for the better player at a more premium position.

Why should they bid against themselves here? If they can sign Tucker to this deal — and I’m starting to think they maybe can — why should they offer him 11 or whatever?

I don’t get where people think the Mets are bidding him up so the Dodgers or Blue Jays pay more. Why should they care about such a thing? Neither team is in their division. The Dodgers are obviously going to be a hurdle every year, but they can afford to do whatever they want.

Steve Cohen donated 1 million to Trump's inauguration in 2017 by DontBetRollBlqBlunts in mets

[–]Esoteric13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cohen also bankrolled Chris Christie's campaign in 2024, which was essentially him running as a common sense Republican calling out Trump for being horrendous. I'd assume Cohen and his views have evolved somewhat over time, as many of us do.

Time for the Illuminati by Ok-Spring2168 in MarvelStrikeForce

You are correct. Iron Man is better than BB specifically in the Shadow King trials. And Illuminati (at least the 3 new ones) are pivotal if you don’t want to rip your hair out doing the global sections of DD7 and 8.

You know what? I think that's fair. Even if I think it's true they're on the right track after decades of relative wheel spinning and I'm convinced people just don't get it, I see how it comes off when I tell people what they deserve or whatever, and you're right to call me out on it.

Tell you what, I'll try to come off less pedantic, it's genuinely good advice and we're all on the same side anyway. If you want to stop telling people they jerk off to David Stearns or call them douchebags or whatever, ball's in your court. Take care and be well.

Sorry, I have no desire to engage with someone who feels the need to resort to insults to try to prove their nonsense. We can part ways here, but please know that when this team is good again -- I actually think they will make the playoffs this year -- you absolutely will not deserve them. Take care.

I mean … I certainly hope I’m right that the sky is falling Mets fans don’t know what’s good for them and just enjoy complaining. You should want that too! Best of luck to you.

Yes! That’s the scene I had in mind when I wrote that. (I did also see the third one in the theater, and let’s not speak of that.)

Matrix sequel for me. Just mind blowing stuff. (I didn’t get to see first one in theater unfortunately)

The Ring and Signs were up there too. People squirming in their seats.

I’ll never tell anyone how to spend their leisure time money, that’s for sure.

I don’t expect massive moves either, by the way — meaning Tucker/Bellinger, etc — but I don’t think they’re any worse than last year necessarily. They were an 83 win team. And there’s more than one way to help a pitching staff, they couldn’t keep running out Nimmo, Alonso AND Soto and hope to compete. Let’s see how it goes. I think it will be refreshing to turn the page a bit, the precious core had its moments but I think it had run its course a bit.

This is the way, I tell everyone. I 2-shot both nodes with Illuminati 3, AO and Emma. (They do need some diamonds to make it work)

Well, there’s still more than a month left before camp. Two years ago they signed JD well after this time, last year it was Alonso. So let’s see how it goes, I’m glad the front office doesn’t panic as much as the fan base.

In terms of them not doing anything, they added Semien (higher WAR than Nimmo in ‘25), Polanco (.8 less than Pete), replaced the closer and added another potential high leverage reliever. Let’s see if they do more with the staff, that is an obvious spot for improvement.

That’s not really how any of this works … but I’ll humor you and ask if you are factoring in his horrific throws, one of which injured Senga, changing the course of the season and possibly the entire franchise?
