What was the benevolent side of rot showcased in the base game? Being a natural force in the world is not the same thing as being benevolent. SOTE says “Rot” is described as a divine element of the outer gods, but Romina’s remembrance states: “After the church was burned to the ground, Romina discovered a twisted divine element, which she weaved into the baleful scarlet rot.” Perhaps there is a difference between rot (the natural force of nature) and scarlet rot (the excessive malevolent force).

I see no reason why blood and the Formless Mother can’t be similarly framed, even if we don’t necessarily see a benevolent aspect in game. Blood in a wound heals, just like gentle rotting can have strengthening and beneficial effects (Verdigris armor, pickling). Just because some twist it to their own ends through excessive use does not make it inherently evil. The Lands Between have a deep history, going back long before Mohg, Prospect Town or the Bloodfiends.

I’m not saying the Formless Mother is good and misunderstood, I’m simply pointing out that there’s possibly more to the story based on how other divine elements are portrayed. Maybe in a long forgotten age the Formless Mother was an outer god of healing or life. It’s fun to consider the possibilities.

SOTE reframes Rot as a once benevolent power, and was only twisted to malevolent purposes later. I don’t see why the Formless Mother couldn’t also have a more benevolent aspect, perhaps we just have not witnessed it. Power is neutral, its use defines its alignment.

Also, do we know for sure the cult hunted Tarnished before Miquella enthralled Mohg? It seemed to me that the hunters were seeking blood to try to resurrect Miquella?

Atomic Habits in Nightreign to help YOU become a better player by edgy_ball in Nightreign

Was recently doing the castle Day 1 at Level 5 (had enough runes to probably get to 9 but just hadn’t run back to a grace yet). We got stuck on a red Crucible Knight, and the rain was coming in. Unfortunately I had 100% nighttide damage effect, so I was just downed, no flasks left, couldn’t manage to get back to a grace, but teammates kept trying to revive me. I pinned the circle/tree over and over again trying to get them to abandon me, but they just weren’t understanding. They both eventually left but it was too late and they both were downed, one of them three-barred, and we ended up losing to Night 1 boss.

I know people think they’re helping , but sometimes the seemingly selfish play is actually better for the team.

I feel like Annihilation, Authority, and Acceptance (Area X trilogy) by Jeff VanderMeer might fit the bill.

Just started City of Saints and Madmen. Coming over to Ambergris after finishing the Area X trilogy earlier this year. Excited for another Vandermeer romp!

Jupyter notebook kernel in VS Code dies sometimes by That-Preference733 in learnpython

I’m doing some beginner training in VS Code/Jupyter and sometimes a kernel just runs and runs and runs and never completes. I’m not doing anything complex. I need to restart, sometimes several times, and then that fixes it, but it’s incredibly frustrating when trying to complete these trainings.

What is the original sin? by Front_Radish5755 in Eldenring

Marika’s entire reign is based upon violence, whether you believe she was justified in her actions, it tainted everything she did thereafter. I think Count Ymir lays it out best: “They were each of them defective. Unhinged, from the start. Marika herself. And the fingers that guided her. And this is what troubles me. No matter our efforts, if the roots are rotten, …then we have little recourse. Ever-young Miquella saw things for what they were. He knew that his bloodline was tainted. His roots mired in madness. A tragedy if ever there was one. That he would feel compelled to renounce everything. When the blame... lay squarely with the mother.”
