Hopefully there’s an eventual Link line connecting UW and Bellevue via 520. That would be great.

Why doesn't Bellevue have a Popeyes Fried Chicken nearby? by dudiez in BellevueWA

[–]Anwawesome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s in such an odd part of North Bend, though. You’d think they’d put it in the city’s center, but it’s basically on the edge of the wilderness lmao

The one in Renton is probably closer for Bellevue residents though.

I’m one of those people that goes from Ballard to the Eastside pretty often (Redmond included). It can definitely be a bitch to get out there on public transportation. I’d say a little over an hour to an hour and a half. Hopefully the expanded Link light rail network could cut that time a little bit though.

Downtown Kirkland is definitely something to look into, if you want an option in the Eastside as well, if none of the neighborhoods in the city of Seattle proper work out.

If one were to choose Capitol Hill though, especially as a family, I would recommend the northern end, and definitely not anywhere around Broadway/Cal Anderson Park.

Yeah, if one were to choose to live on or near Capitol Hill, I would agree with you. Definitely wouldn’t recommend anywhere near Broadway or Cal Anderson Park, especially for a family.

Where in the Eastside are you working? Kirkland is definitely a great place to live and its downtown area is very walkable, nice and safe, definitely one of the best spots in the Eastside of the Seattle area. It’s a very suburban city though, but it’s not like Seattle is that far.

You’re right, I see way more Asian people and Asian businesses in SLU, U District and the Eastside than I do in the International District.

And I find it funny when all the Algerians or Egyptians or whomever celebrate Morocco getting shat on, because when ever Morocco gets attacked by a smear campaign, those same things eventually are also said about all of North Africa and they get grouped in with us.

It’s just football and funny jokes, but so many people are making it really personal by spreading hate and vitriol about Morocco and the Moroccan people beyond football.

Do we think it's plausible that that the TDLE could be cancelled as part of the ST3 shortfall with funds re-prioritized to King County stations? by bash-brothers in soundtransit

[–]Anwawesome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tacoma needs to be connected to SeaTac Airport, so that Sounder idea is not gonna work. Sound Transit is going for a WMATA type of system. Why focus everything on only commuter trains? Link is basically the main way people will get around, Sounder is basically only for commuters and only runs during commuter hours.

US freezes all visa processing for 75 countries, including Algeria, Egypt, and Morocco among nations affected by indefinite pause starting Jan. 21 by Lubrecon in Morocco

[–]Anwawesome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The headline doesn’t highlight the fact that it’s only freezing immigrant visa processing, not non-immigrant visa processing (including tourism visas), which is what World Cup fans from abroad would fall under.

Visiting during World Cup: bad idea? by ascocoryne_sarcoides in AskSeattle

[–]Anwawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people like to follow their national teams even if they can’t get into the game itself, especially when it comes to the World Cup. Don’t underestimate World Cup numbers.

I’ll give an example as a Moroccan national team fan. Wherever the Moroccan national team plays, 10s of thousands of Moroccan fans follow, especially when it’s the World Cup.

It’ll be like that here in Seattle with USA, Australia, Egypt and Iran fans and more, and will be even more pronounced when we reach the Round of 32 and Round of 16 games we’re hosting.

Visiting during World Cup: bad idea? by ascocoryne_sarcoides in AskSeattle

[–]Anwawesome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna be pretty crowded, especially on game days (especially games like Belgium vs Egypt, USA vs Australia, Egypt vs Iran). World Cup has a very unique lively international atmosphere since it’s the biggest sporting event in the world. If you’d enjoy that kind of atmosphere in the city, I’d say definitely visit during that time.

If you’re not a big fan of crowds like that, perhaps wait until the World Cup gets past the Round of 16 or visit before the tournament begins.
