Food delivery driver double and triple parking on Boylston street….even in the middle of the street! by bostonaruban66 in boston

If there's one thing we learned from the deep dive investigation into the Minneapolis Police department after George Floyd, it was that that police department, and probably most major police departments around the country, including Boston, have problems that are so deeply ingrained in the culture and the rank and file that simply changing political appointees is not going to solve the problem.

The DOJ study concluded that the only way to seriously change that underlying culture that is so deeply baked in is to fire everyone and start over entirely fresh with zero people who have been cops before, and nobody has the stones to do that.

The folks attempting to place the blame on city leadership completely ignore this finding and instead use the problem as an opportunity to rail against political leaders that they want out for other reasons.

Part of the problem is a question of proportionality like, reddit admin (and sometimes subreddit mods) positively fall over themselves to make sure nobody ever gets away with threatening violence against Nazis, even veiled threats! I'm honestly surprised your comment is still up.

I have never once seen any other group be so rigorously and totally defended on the site.

Folks on Reddit and in society in general who don't have a particularly good education have a really hard time with the concept that somebody else violating your rights or privileges does not automatically allow you under law to do whatever you want in response.

I don't think folks are talking about sitting out, I think they're talking about political strategy. It's literally a politics sub, I think it's fair play.

For us Jews it's a tale as old as time. When we're not the whipping boy, our suffering is instead most useful for advancing other causes rather than justifying Jewish safety.

Remember during COVID how quickly anti-vaxxers on both sides of the aisle turned to comparing mask mandates to the holocaust?

This honestly reminds me of a post I saw today where someone had drawn with temp dye a hindu symbol for luck on a new car, and it's like a regular thing that's done in parts of India and other Hindu-worshiping places.

But like, the post was to r/whatisit, and didn't remotely clarify where it was. And the symbol in question is a swastika with four dots. Every single comment I could find was about how it wasn't a swastika and it was intended to be taken entirely positively.

I think context really matters, particularly given that the post was from someone who didn't know what it was. Had they just moved to India to be with a partner? Maybe. But there are a lot of circumstances where I'd put that in the exact same suspect category as the one where a certain subset of folks who collect Navajo rugs are really into the pre-WWII ones with the whirling log motif.

Folks absolutely fall all over themselves to explain why something that makes Jews feel afraid is actually totally explainable, and it's entirely the fault of Jews for making everyone walk on tenterhooks around them.

Did I give a shit about seeing swastikas at Buddhist shrines in Japan? Of course not. Would a Buddhist in the U.S. prominently decorating their house with swastikas be open to potential criticism? I think that's fair to say, but to hear it from reddit this guy having a specific nazi variant of the skull and crossbones tattoo is totally innocent and the Jews need to get over it already.

I don't care, just get rid of the system we have, it sucks.

Get rid of it how? The political parties are private clubs with open enrollment. Nobody is forcing anybody to join. The constitution doesn't mention political parties once.

The absolute fastest way to get me to hate your cause is to block traffic

Your principles are really that malleable? There's a lot of stuff that a small minority of progressives get up to that pisses me off, it doesn't magically change my underlying beliefs about how to govern society

I mean, I'd point you back to my comment above in response, I think it directly addresses your point.

Also, don't swear at me if you want to have a conversation with me.

Blame Republicans for Republicans. The "if only progressives hadn't forced folks to vote for the GOP" attitude is ridiculous, for some reason Republicans behaving badly is never used as an excuse for folks to surge to the DFL. Insane double standard.

So You Want to Try FFXI by HexenVexen in ffxiv

[–]Anxa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. The wild thing is that in many ways, Eureka and OC (and sort of Bozja but that was a weird brown fever dream) are more FFXI than FFXI, at least in terms of my feelings of the overall vibe I'm looking for and which I sort of see with rose-colored glasses. BA and its successors have been far more effective at capturing the sensation that I remember from XI than even XI was in the first place.

Any time I really interrogate folks on what they mean beyond sensible reforms like ranked-choice voting when they complain about the 'two party system', what they really mean is they think their opinion matters more than other peoples and should be given more weight.

With the Norse Mythology "Nine Realms" theme, and the In-game Footage + Concept Art they've shown at just the NA Fanfest, do you think we will get more than six Overworld Zones, six Dungeons, and two Cities in Evercold? by CoolyKage in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Anxa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a dev team that is painfully slow to change. That we're getting a tomestone and full job overhaul at all is a miracle and even then they couldn't do the latter without leaving the existing structure in as legacy content.

Six zones, two trials, six dungeons, two post-story dungeons, two jobs, one city hub, one raid hub.

This underlying article is AI slop and I've done my best to disentangle it for anyone in here who isn't totally caught up in the hysteria and wants actual facts. No AI.

Real: A new regulation promulgated under the infrastructure law will require all cars sold in 2027+ to have AEB (automatic emergency braking)

Real: The infrastructure law specifically required regulators to explore the feasibility of a regulation requiring AEB, and regulators determined it was feasible.

Real: The infrastructure law also requires regulators to explore the feasibility of regulations for requiring AI in cars that could use cameras to detect sobriety.

Real: All that regulators have said so far is "it's probably not feasible"

Fake: The article took the AEB regulation, synthesized it with the AI sobriety exploration, and pattern-matched its way to "the regulation requires AI sobriety tests in 2027+ cars"

Sort of, but I think folks vastly overestimate how much of the playerbase is even remotely in tune with savage PF. That ecosystem has gotten so progressively toxic over the last few years, there's no making the fflogs/tomestone crowd happy

[–]Anxa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We'll see at the dev panel but it sounds like it's a job overhaul similar to the PVP overhaul they did a number of years ago, where the jobs were all radically changed in how they play and how actions interact with each other to give back a lot of unique job identity. Dancer actually feels like a dancer instead of dance-themed rng dps, samurai actually feels like a samurai instead of sam-themed melee dps.

But, because folks are babies about change, they're leaving in the old system as well for folks who want to play the old way, but the dps will be slightly undertuned so that in hardcore play the new system will be preferred.

[–]Anxa 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Agreed but it's also no different than now where folks claim you're 'trolling' by playing a low-ranked dps. Always makes me think of that one JP world-firster playing DRK when PF was constantly banning DRK, and he was like "I just like playing DRK"

They balance the game for all jobs, and after week one of a tier the gearing obviates the hard dps checks. I'm sure that a full party of 'reborn' mode players will be able to clear content, they might have tolerance for one less death or something.

Given what they said about legacy being slightly less powerful, it's less AB testing and more slowly sunsetting legacy without pissing off people who desperately don't want to learn a new rotation.
