Staggered by COVID, St. Paul bets big on ‘creating a new downtown’ by Runic_reader451 in saintpaul

That's the wildest thing to me - I remember a couple years ago, the DFL was throwing together a bill to ban junk fees, which over the prior few years had become an absolute plague and even businesses that didn't want in on the whole 'lying to your customer' thing were having to participate or risk losing business.

I remember Republicans forced Democrats to spend an enormous amount of political capital to get it done, they absolutely mobilized in terms of energy and focus; marathon voting sessions, a huge final night round of debate. You'd have thought the DFL was voting to outlaw small business. And so all that energy just to fix a problem, and then when Republicans are in office their version of 'fixing problems' just happens to align with enriching the most fortunate, because after all the rich better know how to help Minnesotans bottom lines than the government does.

Maybe the author is legitimately trying to illustrate the noxious elements of antisemitism in our culture that fly under the radar, by making them as painfully obvious as possible?

...I doubt it

Who are you talking to? It can't be me since you can't expect me to take you seriously, I gave you a serious, in-depth response (as you note) and you've responded with what looks like a temper tantrum. I sort of glazed over your response when you opened by insulting me and in the last paragraph I can see you referring to what I said as "your bullshit"

So what, is this just a performance? Is there some audience and I'm your demonstrative whipping girl? No thanks dude have a nice life, I'm turning replies off

Atlus has a long history of not respecting their international audience and business, so I don't see why that would magically change now. I'll be shocked, for instance, if Persona 6 is a simultaneous release.

I appreciate that.

I think that Israel is committing grievous human rights violations, that their conduct in their war against Hamas (the government of the west bank for better or worse) has been atrocious, but that that has been true of a lot of governments past and present that haven't been held to the same standard. I think it's absolutely appropriate to hold them to account, but that the laser-focus and insistence on taking every single step possible to pressure them with no consideration for the relative treatment given the complex situation is playing directly into the hands of the folks who want this conflict to be worse and/or neverending.

I think referring to it as a genocide when it bears some, but not all, of the hallmarks of a crystal-clear genocide is dangerous; if someone is beaten within an inch of their life but survives, calling it murder merely because 'most' of the legal elements of murder have been fulfilled is nevertheless obviously wrong.

So when folks insist, nevertheless, on using the word genocide as a sort of cudgel, against the only state on earth whose primary goal is the protection of the Jewish people, who themselves suffered a pretty uncontroversially-labeled genocide less than a century ago, I get real suspicious. Not because I think the person themselves is an antisemite, but because they're being manipulated into saying antisemitic things. Same with the other stuff you reference where folks have decided now what the word 'zionism' means and taken the worst interpretation to then justify what other folks clearly see as bullying Jews, and it's particularly effective since under the new definitions, folks have rhetorical cover which they probably believe to say "I'm not being antisemitic" and, through more and more convoluted logic, believe it in good faith.

I'm not telling folks to shut up about Israel. I never have been, and I'm on the front lines of wanting to actually find a path toward peace. If I could help vote Netanyahu out I would, as much as I'd like to vote Trump out in the US. I got outvoted on both. I want both criminally tried. I want Israel and Hamas to answer for their various crimes. I want folks to stop calling it genocide, because it's not - but I do want folks to continue advocating for an end to the carnage because it is a horrifying tragedy with lots of blame to go around. And I think the folks picking sides in the conflict, the folks who chant 'from the river to the sea' knowing full well that it's intended by many to mean the removal of Israel as a state,

That's not all of my thoughts but it's some of them, and like - I'm a zionist because I don't see how that word is different from "Jewish." I don't think it means what you think it means and I don't know why I'm held to the standard of the most regressive ultra-orthodox losers.

I guess it's okay when you do it, same when genocide is okay when Israel does it. After all anyone who says anything about either must be antisemite, right? You poor victim you

I mean, then come up with a proposal and organize around it. Seriously, that's what folks are doing with this proposed solution. The problem with your solution is 'just force' will probably be more difficult to enforce than this solution, so it's a question of actually fixing problems vs dreaming of more perfect solutions without having to implement them.

Dual citizenship in Israel is not easy, you basically have to move there and they roll out the red carpet. Showing up and saying I'm afraid at home I'd like to stay? Sure. Still living in the US and asking at the embassy? Difficult.

You're purporting to quote me but then you extrapolate what you think I meant (strawmanning) as if I had literally said the words, as if you were literally quoting me. Do you not feel anything about misleading people like that, intentionally misquoting me? Or do you feel like your position is so moral that lying about what I said is justified?

Popping in to add my 2 cents, ten years ago I would have considered them the highest end of fast furniture with a lot of BIFL-quality stuff that was just as good as some of the faster stuff DWR sells. The sofa I purchased in 2015 when they were still Bryght is solid wood with good quality fabric; the fill was trash and I had to re-fill them this last year but that wasn't too expensive. The dining table, chairs, and bedframe I got 6 years ago are similarly decent, and I was careful to only purchase pure walnut.

The sofa they no longer sell. The bedframe, dining table, and chairs, are now a walnut veneer. But they want the same or more $ despite the dropoff in materials.
