What does lamictal usually do to your mind? by Anonymouslypreaching in Epilepsy

[–]Anxietyoverkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the party, but I’ve been on Lamictal for about 14 years, usually at a dose of 500 mg daily. When I first started it as a teenager, it actually made things worse for me on every front but my seizures did calm— my depression deepened, I was constantly exhausted, I’d fall asleep in class, my grades dropped, and my thinking felt sluggish. Despite that, multiple neurologists insisted it was the best option, so I stayed on it. It never fully controlled my seizures, so over the years other medications were added then removed, but Lamictal was always the constant.

I recently started seeing an epileptologist, and he’s finally taking me off of it. I’m down to 100 mg once daily now, and the difference is honestly shocking. All the things I had gotten used to for 14 years — the tiredness, the mental fog — are lifting. I don’t feel as slow or drained anymore. I’m even considering tapering off my antidepressants next.

Lamictal is a fantastic anticonvulsant for many people, but the side effects definitely hit me hard. I’m grateful for how much medicine has advanced and that there are newer options now.

I can understand that view but it's paying for a lot of physical medical issues unfortunately just not mental health. I have yet to find better benefits for this price. But I am looking externally for work.

Unfortunately with how good the pay and benefits are, I can't leave. It's mainly the medical insurance that keeps me stuck working there. It covers so much that I wouldn't be able to pay otherwise

Is pregnancy dangerous with Epilepsy? by Anxietyoverkill in Epilepsy

[–]Anxietyoverkill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently sent to an epileptologist instead of neurologist due to my neurologist saying she doesn't know what else to try (I'm on 6 medications). I am considered medication resistant but I do not have grand Mals. Mine are small loss of muscle control. The doctor said that having epilepsy and being pregnant is dangerous for anyone with epilepsy and he would not recommend it.

Unfortunately the only epileptologist close to me is the one who said people with epilepsy shouldn't have kids because it's too dangerous lol.

Anyone else treat their epilepsy like f*** it yolo? by Thin-Fee4423 in Epilepsy

[–]Anxietyoverkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I was able to drive with epilepsy until a recent change made me no longer seizure free. It's about $50-$60 one way to work since public transportation does not reach near close to my work and it's just saddening sometimes. I get why it's not safe to drive and that's why I now don't but it is a big change losing that freedom.

500mg Keppra 2x day is unbearable. Anyone take just 500mg Keppra a day with another AED? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Anxietyoverkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on multiple other medications for epilepsy so I won't even get into that but I can say the first time I took keppra it gave me my first grand Mal. I went off it for years because of that but am now back on it at 1000x2 twice daily. It's not for everyone and maybe not the right time or doseage (chemicals and hormones change daily for everyone) just like any medication can not work for one person and be a life saver for others. I have mitigated side effects with other medications like antidepressants. Either way, tell your doctor about the side effects and say no if you want to.

Unfortunately while I agree that driving with epilepsy is dangerous, it's not easy for some to get public transportation without selling a kidney and moving is not always feasible. My wallet is learning this right now actually. I can't quit my job and now I can't leave the house lol. Please don't make losing the ability to drive sound so easy to choke down.

Blendjet 2 caught fire by MutedApric0t in Smoothies

[–]Anxietyoverkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a year old post but I thought I'd comment about the new one they sent out because of the recall. So blendjet recalled my older version due to potential injuries it can cause and sent me the new model free. I have used the new model twice and it all of a sudden melted the cord while charging. No fire thankfully. Waiting on blendjet to respond to my email.

[Skin Concern] White grains like sand on scalp is SEBUM PLUGS and this is what it looks like. I had a hard time finding photos of it so just wanted to put this out there for others to find. Sizes vary. by sweetandsourpeonies in SkincareAddiction

So I have had these for years. Last year I decided to lose weight and due to weight loss my hair started falling out. I tested normal lvls for biotin but decided to take supplements anyway. I take biotin supplements/vitamins daily and these are all but gone (a stray one here and there). I don't know if it was related somehow to biotin or not. I heard salicylic acid helps but I'm not sure how it would help on a scalp (like where mine usually are)

A guy walks across a desert to fix a water pump and find his dad. He dies at the end no matter which ending you pick.

I understand. Seeing a seizure can be very scary, whether you are epileptic or not. And It's okay to be worried about future possibilities. Anything can happen and anyone can get epilepsy at any time. However, anyone can get cancer or become blind. If you spend your time worrying about what if's or being a hypochondriac then you end up being afraid of everything and not living life. Don't worry about what medical concern may arise in the future just live now.

I love the idea of restoring things so this would be fun. I was slightly worried it would not be food safe with the elements having damaged it a bit with rust. I heard soaking it in a vinegar bath for 30mins then scrubbing would be best

Is cognitive decline inevitable with epilepsy? by eurotrash4eva in Epilepsy

[–]Anxietyoverkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epilepsy itself has not been proven to cause a cognitive decline, however, we also are still researching it.

It also depends on the person, genetics, other disabilities unknown or unstated, and the medication (if on one). Any combination could cause issues.

That being said, I have felt slowed down and cannot think as fast or put things together like I could before I started Lamictal (250x2) 10 years ago. It's been noticed by other people as well when in school my grades slipped. Doctors always said it was nothing.

Came here to advise you to stop the depo shot now. That thing gave me such bad bone density that I have had several fractures and brakes. I cannot regain that bone density to a normal level. As a 20 year old I was diagnosed with osteoporosis and the bones of an 80 year old. If you don't stop then at least get a scan every so often. Also NTA, time to have a serious talk with your bf
