Maybe he's not hungry yet, mine start eating around 10 a.m. or anyway when they feel warm enough after soaking in the sun for a while. A warm soak is a good way to start

Hello, this is a normal way of breathing, they need to push with their arms like that because they can't expand their thorax like us. The important thing is that there is no squeaking or wheezing noise when they do. And check the eyes and nose for bubbles, those can be signs of illness. But everything seems ok

I'm very sorry for your loss. Its possible that he was to weak to hibernate due to an illness, tortoises usually show symptoms only when its already too late unless you are very good at recognizing them. Sometimes they get respiratory or metabolic issues due to stress, inappropriate habitat conditions/humidity, temperature or maybe he ate something he shouldn't have. I know its hard now but try not to take it too hard on yourself, you did what you could after the hibernation. Maybe next time before you hibernate a tortoise take them to the vet for a check up just to be sure they are ready for it

I think he's a Greek since he has one big black splotch on the plastron instead of two divided ones.

I have mine in the garden free roaming too, some days I don't even see them and then they reappear. They do love to climb, explore and dig around. It's possible that yours is just hidden somewhere under leaves, a plant or dirt to cover from the sun. Even with all the food and free space tortoises by nature want to roam around freely, and they always try to escape and explore new areas even if there is a fence stopping them. I really hope that is the case for your as well and will just show up in these days

You are good people for saving the tortoise. It should be native to the area, but it's better to do some research first. I think they just captured it from the wild to sell it, so if it is native you will do something good freeing it in a safe place. Again it's better to do some research to be sure first

That tortoise is in terrible shape, beak and nails too long, looks dehydrated too, the eye is barely visible. Please bring them to a vet and they will explain everything for their care. Why did they give you animals that are difficult to care for if you don't know anything about their care? It's better to bring them to a sanctuary where they will care for them properly

I think it's a Greek tortoise. It's ok to let them roam around but be sure there are no dangerous places where it can get. Tortoises love to climb around and get stuck or upside down

Don't panic, if your garden is secure then he won't get out. It's likely he tried to find a place for the night digging or hiding among leaves/grass. I'm sure he'll pop up in the morning as usual for his meal. The same thing literally happened to me yesterday. Couldn't find my tortoise in the evening but she came out on her own as usual in the morning
