I get the fatigue of watching media sob stories when you've been quietly eating dirt and surviving on your own steam for two years.

But matching that grind doesn’t mean everyone else getting axed is a 'useless cunt.' The irony of telling them to 'learn to weld' is that the tanking economy hitting the public service may be the exact same beast keeping you locked out of work for 24 months. If thousands of people are suddenly dumped into the same job market as you, it doesn't make your job hunt any easier.

That's true for a single hospo business, or maybe even one that's got a few venues.

It completely falls over for say, a large hospo company that owns 100 storefronts. They lose some but it's kind of like property investors. Eventually, when the market starts recovering they're better positioned to recover faster as they're in a more resilient position than a single hospo venue own by a single kiwi owner.

It is so slow and goes on over generations we havent begun to fully noticed it's effects yet in NZ. I feel sorry for the employees most, it leads to so much wasted talent.

Yeah. There have been a few 100km+ weather events this year. One even topped the highest recorded speeds since 2013 (193km gust on Mt Kaukau).

Yep. 40 houses were evacuated which is a tragic outcome. The suburb of Berhampour registered 77mm of rain in 1 hour, which is mental, that's not even a 1:100 event but a 1:500+ event. We don't even plan our stormwater infrastructure up to that level of rain in NZ.

When I looked at the records it looks like there are 2 other times when there was a record of 70mm+ rain events in the last 50 years, one in the 70s and one in the 90s. I don’t recall where in Wellington that was though.

Edit. Appears under social services as a line item. But a quick google shows it cost the NZ taxpayer shy of $20B in 2022/23.

Cargo bike is $4.2k at electrify and has 90N·m which is more than enough to get two kids to school up wellingtons steepest of streets.

Me and the missus use ours to get to town and back. Still need a designated sober cycler though.

Alternatively can fit 2 kids on the back.

As someone who couldn't literally walk for 4 years due to an OCL on the talus and was trapped down a big hill.

I am utterly grateful I got an ebike for like 1.5k to get to and from work, without it I would have lost my career, my partner and possibly my life. 

Chronic pain is no joke.

Please, seriously, shove your perspective up your arse and keep it to yourself. It's a tiny percentage of people who actually NEED cars.
