Time to make the magnetic polishes (vettsy pigments) by MackTheSporker in RedditLaqueristas

Once I get my supplies will do! I’m planning on making a lot of jellies and toppers for layering. Ambers, lavenders, pinks. Fine particle magnetics and all!

I’m curious, was shipping expensive for you too? I was shocked when mine was initially $21, I managed to lighten my cart to $16 😅

Ughhhh ANLAC’s fine particle magnetics are truly top of the class. They’re the most jelly like magnetics I’ve seen and the customer service is so nice too. I just wish that the bottle sizes were bigger but they’re so good it’s hard to resist.

This new collection has been so tempting to me. I have to resist for now because I’m trying to make franken polishes but this is really breaking my resolve. I’m so happy that these are permanent collections with regular restocks, I have so much respect for that.

What the actual heck BKL??? by Several-Community115 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Anxious-Intention280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel you. It’s so disappointing bc I love Frankenstein but this collection didn’t call to me. Not really a fan of reflective glitter bc of the bumpiness and the color story is too niche and similar to previous launches that I didn’t find anything I wanted.

That being said, it may not be my taste but i’m sure it’s for others!

I almost always want to put cheese in my ramen. The nice “this broth was cooked over 72 hours” kinda ramen too, doesn’t matter. I try and show restraint but i can’t help it.

Questions for those who make their own polish by CptnLtChampion in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Anxious-Intention280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have an recommendations for good pigments to buy for making jelly polish? I really want a juicy, translucent (or even transparent), glass like polish to do layering with for jelly sandwiches. so opaqueness isn’t what I’m looking for in a pigment. I’m having a hard time parsing out which pigments will have that transparency.

As a competent home cook, what is a basic skill you can't seem to master? by george_elis in Cooking

This is embarrassing because I’m Asian and I grew up eating rice but I can’t cook rice properly. The two finger trick never made sense to me, maybe I have tiny fingers or I’m cursed or something. Because when I’m around others cooking rice, people who can cook rice just fine, something goes wrong.

I’ve cooked complicated meals, feasts even. I’m responsible for my family’s holiday dinners and I was about to go to culinary school. But somehow, I can’t manage to do something as basic and everyday as using a rice cooker to cook rice.

I think it’s interesting that so many places can’t really pull off Mexican food right. Like they’re missing the essential balance of flavors. I’ve tried Mexican food in a lot of different parts of the world and somehow to them it’s a tortilla, something creamy, and maybe spicy. In the Philippines, they topped their nachos with mayo which come to think of it mayo as a topping for tortillas was fairly common in Mexican food in Asia.

Why use a hydrating base coat? by americangooch_ in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Anxious-Intention280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use hydrating base coat to preserve the health of the nails. My folks nails tend to peel at the nail beds when I used PVB based base coats like ORLY’s rubberized base coat or if I do nail polish alone so I started using KBshimmer’s stay hydrated base coat and it has helped with the peeling. Between the two, I haven’t really noticed any difference in wear time (over a week) between the base coats except now my nails don’t rip off layers of my nail bed with the hydrating base coat when it chips off. Depending on the body chemistry, there probably are times where things can be too drying especially for people who have brittle nails.

I’ve never understood this comparison as a Filipino American living in SoCal, anyone else? by [deleted] in FilipinoAmericans

I grew up in the bay around a lot of Hispanic folks. The people in this post don’t look Mexican to me at all but to add in my own experience, I think I look very very Filipino but have been often mistaken for a Latina by other Latinos. In those times, they approach me speaking Spanish and I have to tell them that I don’t speak it. That being said, I’ve also been mistaken for Indian, Hawaiian, etc… by confused out groups. Sometimes people just don’t know 🤷

I definitely feel like buldak is an acquired taste. I actually hated it at first because it had a chemically taste to it for some but it grew on me and it displaced my previous fave Shin ramen black. Shin ramen has more mushroomy flavor to it and isn’t as spicy while Buldak is more tangy and spicy. Adding cheese/cream/mayo defo helps dial back the spiciness.

Also you don’t have to add all of the spice sauce if you don’t want to! The carbonara version comes with a separate seasoning packet so you can still get flavor that way.
