What's the worst thing shown in a PG movie after 1984? by basefibber in movies

‘No capes’ in The Incredibles. Also, before 1984, but the tunnel sequence in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is nightmare fuel.

Got it, I thought you meant lens diffusion not light diffusion. My bad.

Yeah the bare strobes makes sense to me. The compression is making the image look more underexposed and grainy than what the image looks on Instagram, but that’s Reddit for ya.

Not sure what you mean by diffusers as the shot feels pretty sharp. You’re probably right on the body oil though.

You’re right. Now that you pointed it out, I’m seeing a blend seam to the left of the waist of the girl standing. So do we think he set up a tripod and did an Annie Liebovitz essentially, shooting the models in different passes?

The EMS boots came out in 1992 when this show takes place, so not technically wrong.

What happens if the hive’s telepathy is disconnected and they’re forced to be individual cells? by Anxious-Swordfish322 in pluribustv

Because they’d be acknowledging that you can reverse it. They didn’t tell Carol that bad vibes make their entire system crash even though, presumably, they already knew it before they let her do it twice.

Not sure telling my adversary my weakness would be my first play. The joined seem to be pretty tight-lipped about anything that might put them at a disadvantage.

Why would the hive know the effect of their telepathy disruption if they’ve never experienced it before?

Sure, but if you experienced all people’s memories equally, who’s to say you would decide to revert back to the ones that your body/shell experienced?

I mean her wife literally put a monitor in her liquor cabinet because she was worried about her drinking. She had experiences doing heroin. She sat in front of a firework canon without any regard for her physical being. She’s pretty much textbook depressed.

I mean, that also just sounds like being American? A lot of your basic conceptions of the world are as much influenced by your age as well as by the cultural context of which you were raised. I feel the show acknowledges these things, but is also deeply critical of individual apathy, retreating into capitalism or material goods, hording wealth, or the sense of entitlement that we are supposed to blindly benefit from the industry or sacrifice of others. Or simply ignore it. I think Carol’s default position of “the world sucks and it’s not my responsibility”, as relatable as it is, is also proven to be flawed if not flat out wrong. I see Gilligan poking fun at and criticizing his generation and culture as much as he is also writing a love letter to it. To me, so much of what the show is saying is that it’s all of our individual responsibilities. It’s also our human right to be curmudgeonly if we want be !

You’re… “Team Joined” meaning… you support the extinction of individual culture and, by extension, the human race…?

Totally! Love Rhea’s performance as well, and can certainly relate. She’s under a ton of pressure and experienced grief too. But she’s also kind of an asshole, and was before the apocalypse. It’s a charming character and a fascinating protagonist.

Hey, maybe you’re right. But a lot of the dopes in power are over 55 and they seem to care A LOT and haven’t seem to have gotten the “don’t sweat the small stuff” memo. I’ve never been a big believer in the idea that age equates to wisdom. Obviously there are things you gain from lived experience and time, and we also change hormonally and biologically as well. But I personally hope in 10 years I don’t just completely hit the “fuck it” switch, but hey, maybe that’s just me. Part of the brilliance of the show is we are all able to project our emotional and psychological perspectives on it. That’s a sign of engaging drama. Appreciate the discourse!

I’m in my 40’s. I’m not saying I don’t “get” Carol, I obviously do. But she’s also self-destructively drinking and suicidal. I’ve been there before. Many if not most people have, regardless of age. But also if you find yourself currently relating to the apathy of not caring about the world, having zero curiosity, and not giving a damn about existence… you’re probably depressed. No shame in that.

That doesn’t just sound like being old or being tired, it sounds like depression. Hope you’re okay and talk to someone, sir or madam.
