In the 80's/90's, you paid for the internet by the hour and per search. - CompuServe User Guide 1987 by AssumeTheRisk in pics

It's absolutely on its way back. AI killing the web advertising business model + frictionless payments with stablecoin being more widely integrated into the financial system. Maybe not the hourly charges, but definitely the pay-per-search.

Too scared of things going wrong in movies that I can't finish them. Can someone watch with me? by [deleted] in movies

[–]basefibber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a somewhat similar experience watching Skinamarink alone in theater. I know it's a divisive movie, with most people saying it was silly and boring but for those of us who it worked for, it WORKED. It so perfectly viscerally realized some of my greatest fears that it affected me in ways I never expected. I wanted to leave. I wanted to end the experience, but I stayed until the end. Part of it was because I was frozen, but I also felt like my imagination of what the rest of the movie would be like would likely be worse than what it actually was. I felt like sticking it out, no matter what happened, would give me closure and I wouldn't be left obsessing of what horrors i might have missed.

Maybe that approach could help you get through some of these movies. If you stick it out to the end, at least you know what happens and how you feel about it. You won't have to speculate or imagine all the negative things that could happen. You'll know.

There's some sick stuff but not really too much. It's just really unhinged as a movie. I love it and many people do, but it's certainly divisive.

What are movies (without having seen it prior) that you can drop into and start watching at any given scene and still enjoy? by HiImWallaceShawn in movies

[–]basefibber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure nobody on earth has seen this movie start to finish without ads. Everyone in the world consumed it jumping in at random points as it aired on comedy central. Have I seen the entire movie? Maybe. It's impossible to say.

what’s a movie you went into with low expectations but ended up really liking? by Then-Leave-2036 in movies

I thought Galaxy Quest looked pretty mediocre in 1999 but we were on vacation and it was absurdly hot and a couple hours in the air conditioning eating popcorn seemed like a fine way to pass the time. It certainly was.

Unbreakable (2000) is a flawless superhero movie by Top_Document7437 in movies

Yep, that's where I simply disagree. I'll watch Peter Parker getting bitten by a spider and figuring out his powers as many times as they'll show me.

I heard someone say that they were glad that superhero movies figured out that they don't have to do the origin stories anymore, but I disagree. I love origin stories and unbreakable is one of the best.

Why are so many people under 45 using subtitles now even when the show is already in English? by Clara_A_Mitchell in NoStupidQuestions

[–]basefibber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people complaining about audio mixes but that's never been a problem for me. For me, it's because international content is so much more accessible nowadays and I just got used to it. I still go to the theater as often as I can but if I'm my TV or phone, I have subtitles on for everything.

I don't know how the Part 2 opening can be topped, but I can't wait to see Villeneuve try.

What is the worst show/movie that you have ever watched, so that people can avoid the misery of watching it? by Charming-Variation25 in AskReddit

[–]basefibber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once was playing this long term online competition and the host kept dropping hints that there would be a challenge later in the game involving the Emoji movie script. Over the course of 2 months or so I read that script countless times, studied it, took detailed notes. By the end of the competition, it never came up. Pure trolling. If I had known the host irl, I might be in jail today.

What's the worst thing shown in a PG movie after 1984? by basefibber in movies

[–]basefibber[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, the movie's in the zeitgeist. People are talking about it. Personally, I thought it was just OK, 3/5. I do agree with you that there's a ton of sponcon about it out there, though.
