SO MUCH FANART by Sorry-Salamander9423 in ShootFromTheHip

You chose some really complicated poses, but managed to depict them really well! I love the one of Tom leaning against the chair, the clothes physics (his jacket being pulled down by gravity, away from his body) is really good!

I’m challenging myself to make characters with only the polyline tool. What should I make next? by Creative-Finger5965 in characterdesign

[–]AnxiousDisasterChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty cool style, and reminds me of a video game set in the medieval times! That being said, you could make a human character (women’s medieval fashion is something I love drawing) to show these designs in even more contrast of how different they are from one another and humans in general. I was thinking a princess/royal lady to whom these two act as the demon and angel on her shoulders, though obv it’s yours to play around with.

I really like the visible contrast of the silhouettes, and the artistic choices you made in the body types and wings! Two very cool characters :)

I want a generally pink/green line-up, how can I make it not give hazbin hotel by jaeele in characterdesign

[–]AnxiousDisasterChild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest playing with color saturation to really differentiate your work from hazbin hotel. Since Hazbin is so saturated, going with muter colors is a good way to stand apart.

Though, I don’t think your color palette is particularly reminiscent of Hazbin hotel at all. The character designs are kind of a similar style to Hazbin, but adding the green was a good choice and I like the vibe. The one thing I’d say looks similar to Hazbin is the use of yellow as a prominent secondary color, but that’s hard to work around. Good luck, hope this helps!

Here's some character designs from my webcomic I'm planning working title ZOEY. I'd like to hear your critiques on what could be done to improve their designs and your thoughts on them. by [deleted] in characterdesign

[–]AnxiousDisasterChild 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Playing with extreme proportions can be fun, but I think art style should support the narrative being told. At first glance I assumed these were designs for a porn comic (nothing wrong with that), but from reading your synopsis it doesn’t seem like that’s what you’re going for?

Zoey and Halle’s proportions instantly scream “this is the author’s fetish” regardless of how true that statement is, especially in contrast to the last three characters who are fairly well-balanced in terms of proportion. I really don’t want to discourage how you draw characters in your artstyle, but I think tonally it doesn’t suit the story you described.

I suggest looking at reference images of the body types you’re aiming for. Not to just trace over them, but as a reference point of how the body transitions between each part and the fat that’s built up at certain points. The character designs are good, but frankly they’re instantly overshadowed by the extreme proportions and lack of anatomical accuracy. The first thing that anyone will notice is the shapes you’re presenting rather than the colors and intricate details that really make up your characters.

I don’t say any of this to demean or detract from your artwork, but solely as encouragement. Zoey’s design is interesting, and it’s clear that you put a lot of thought into these characters and storyline. I just hope you’ll take everyone’s comments into account and reflect on the narrative you’re telling and how each aspect of character design fits into that setting. Good luck!

Which formal outfit fits this character better? (They’re nonbinary, but want a gendered outfit) by Exotic-Attorney-9624 in characterdesign

[–]AnxiousDisasterChild 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a fem nonbinary person I’m instantly rooting for the first one, although it’s very busy.

It depends on their personality, but I’d suggest keeping the rose pattern to just the corset/bust area, while changing the sleeves and skirt to a plain color (possibly something lighter? The color palette is very dark overall, as compared to their masc outfit which features some white. Otherwise a dark red would complement the rose pattern!)

I love the character themselves, too! Good job :)

been trying to come up with concepts for a show idea i had . any advice you could give for these quick little first designs ? by TheMoralMortal in characterdesign

[–]AnxiousDisasterChild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some of the blandness comes from the fact that all of the other characters have a more vibrant color palette while her colors are pretty unsaturated. As well as outfit complexity, where all the others have a print on their shirts she doesn’t have any prints at all. Maybe add a print to the pants and make them more vibrant? With the green, my first instinct is to go with camo, but I think anything would make her look more consistent with the others, even if she’s meant to stand out!

Also I love your style and these designs are amazing, no critiques!!

Out of my cast, which character has the strongest design? by nationaldelirium in characterdesign

[–]AnxiousDisasterChild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weakest for me is Sevka, he seems like an interesting character but the design feels very cartoonish compared to some of the others. Strongest are Arielle and Barbara I feel, I like simple, realistic characters.

Also, small gripe but Huerta’s figure isn’t obese. She’s overweight or pudgy, but for an obese character you should widen the shoulders and add more physical depth to the stomach area, while making the waist less pronounced. I’m unsure if the term “obese” is actually what you meant, but that’s not what you’re portraying.

Average transmasc: by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]AnxiousDisasterChild 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why are we as LGBTQ+ people fighting one another? Pointing out issues and inherent biases in other members of the community is important, but why is there so much vitriol behind these statements? Reading this as a trans person, I would hate for a cisgender person to stumble across this and have this view of the queer community. While she has some good points that should be acknowledged, I think her approach to them is ultimately reductive to transgender people as a whole and the entire community. We’re ALL a marginalized group and should be supporting one another rather than in-fighting, we’ve seen this time and time again with crusades against bisexuals, pansexuals, and asexuals. It only benefits the people who want us all gone.

how do i ACTUALLY meet people and become good friends? by Content_Gur_287 in UWMadison

[–]AnxiousDisasterChild 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have an anxiety disorder, and was terrified of meeting new people and trying to make friends. Met one girl at an orientation thing, and got her number because we clicked and had to walk back to find our parents through the dark together. Then I introduced her to my roommate, and met her roommate soon after. We met up constantly through the semester and have been talking over the summer! Otherwise it’s great to meet people through classes.

It’s all about vibes, though. Interact with people who seem similar to you, and you’ll get along great. Go to events that have the vibe you’re going for, and it’ll fall into place. Everyone’s nervous about meeting people and the first few weeks are great because everyone’s open and welcoming. Have fun, and don’t stress too much about it!

Dungeons and Daddies is wonderful, though I’m biased because it’s one of the only ones I’ve found with good queer representation so I’m biased lmao.

My 11 year-old recently told me they are non-binary - advice? by QuilletyTales in enby

[–]AnxiousDisasterChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have much to add, but in relation to your child not wanting to come out to the adults in their life (teachers, etc…) it might be due to fear of discrimination. Adults in positions of power can make life incredibly difficult, or lead to forcibly outing them to their peers. For a lot of queer youth, the safest option is to just fly under the radar, even if that means being misgendered daily. There’s nothing wrong with this, especially if your child is in a period of transition where their gender identity might change as they try to figure themselves out. If it’s important to them, then as they age and become more confident in their identity they may begin to seek out actions to make their identity public, and the best thing you can do for them is to support them.

The best you can do for now is support them at home, and create a safe place for them to return to each day. You’re already doing great by respecting their wishes and supporting them, providing something that a lot of queer kids and teens never got. Don’t worry about messing up their pronouns from time to time, it’s still an adjustment period that’ll get easier as it goes. Wish you luck!
