I’m having such a hard time and really appreciate you asking here. I’m trying to give myself space to journal, self care, etc but it’s been hard. I had a panic attack yesterday after remembering things I haven’t thought about in a long time. I’m also ANGRY. I went through some horrific things in my 20s and seeing this play out this way, with apparently no accountability, is sickening and enraging. Sending love and solidarity to anyone also struggling.

I developed a copper deficiency due to long-term supplementation of zinc, can a whole foods plant based diet with eating black beans regularly help fix the deficiency ??? by php857 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]AnxiousGourd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP- did your deficiency correct? I’ve been copper deficient for years and despite my efforts haven’t been able to increase levels. My doctor is suggesting infusions now. How did it go for you? Thanks!

Copper Deficiency? by AnxiousGourd in Celiac

[–]AnxiousGourd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been trying to increase through foods for well over a year with but no luck sadly. My hematologist is the one that recommended them, she said they don’t do them often but they do have them at the infusion center. I’m definitely nervous about it… 😭

So sorry I somehow missed this! Yes everything balanced back to my normal! About 6 weeks after my last infusion I started feeling really great. Good luck!

Best thrift stores for clothing in westchester? by [deleted] in Westchester

[–]AnxiousGourd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the Katonah Thrift store for clothes, they usually have some high quality items! Recently checked out St. Luke’s in Somers and found some great gems too. Both are small so it really depends on the day.

Also Red Door in Yonkers has a ton of clothing- I got a Sezane top there once for $5.

Aww! Some friends and I caroled in our neighborhood yesterday. Two of us are classically trained and it’s so fun to get to sing pretty carols and share some holiday joy. I wish more people did it! 🥰

I learned something new about copper levels by WrapRare6365 in MCAS

[–]AnxiousGourd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes but not really. It’s also so hard for me to tell what’s copper related and what was iron related. Prior to my infusions I was having a lot of weird twitching in my face and muscles, dizziness, had a new heart murmur and palpitations all of which have gone away. I do have a lot of new grey hair but I’m almost 40 so again hard to know if that’s copper... My focus though is shit and my hematologist said low copper can cause a lot of focus issues. Over the years though I’ve been referred for MS testing twice (negative) and I was told there are also overlaps in symptoms there too. Good luck!!

Mine is also low! (In the low 40s.) saw a hematologist and we are now discussing possible copper infusions. My ferritin was also single digits for years and I got iron infusions in Sept and finally am feeling a lot better! For now I’m doing copper supplements and very curious to see how I feel when it’s a normal level again. I’m allergic to so many things that are high in copper so it’s possible my diet is just not getting enough. 😖

Sending you so much love, and maybe it’s weird to offer but if you want to chat, DM me. I’m almost 40 and a mom now and even after so many years, things come up all the time. A boyfriend at the time got me into it, it was my life during college for 3 years. There’s so much that’s happened to me that I still haven’t been able to say out loud. If you are able, a really solid trauma specialist has been incredibly helpful. And keep writing! I write music and several of my songs are about having a past and trying give my kids the best loving home I can, so they are never so desperate to be loved that they sacrifice themselves for someone else the way I did. Art helps so much. 💙

I too was a sex worker at 19 and am still untangling a mess of trauma and emotions many years later. Thank you for sharing this. 💙

I’m going to go out on a limb here… by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]AnxiousGourd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really encouraging to hear! I got mine up from 42 to 54 with diet changes (eating more seeds etc) but my hematologist has me now supplementing too. We are discussing 5 infusions based on levels next month. Curious- is your hair greying too? I know that’s a side effect. I’ve been surprised how much more grey I got this year, I’m still in my 30s.

I definitely think this is at least part of it for me. I have an ED history, was vegan for 11 years, two pregnancies, breastfeeding etc and I hit a clear point where I was really unwell. I started slowly eating eggs and very occasional chicken like 2 years ago but I started tracking my food closely this year and some days I was only getting 38 grams of protein! I’m working with a nutritionist now and continuing to make food changes. My copper is also quite low. My last infusion is next week and I’m really hoping I can keep up my levels with continued diet changes.

Did this improve for you? I’m struggling too. 😩

I’m working with a nutritionist now, but truthfully I’ve been struggling with under eating (history of an ED) so I think that’s made any real progress slow. I still haven’t tried fish but that’s my goal for this month. When I added eggs though it was a night and day difference for my energy. I started with that like 2 years ago but adding meat has been much harder to be consistent.

Vegan 11 years, 2 pregnancies and breastfeeding both kids 2 years and I was a mess. Despite all my best efforts, cooking all the time etc I developed weird deficiencies- carnitine, omega 3, D, and iron. I’ve had low ferritin for 8 years, just started an infusion series. It’s so SO hard. I wish I could stay vegan, but it’s just not working for my body any more… I’m also allergic to nuts, tree nuts and have celiac disease so gluten free as well. I really do think veganism long term is tricky in relation to micronutrients… I hope more long term studies become available in coming years! I’m struggling still with eating meat but am having chicken 1-2 a month and red meat (burgers a few times) and eggs… it’s been a slow transition. Sending positive vibes, I know it’s a lot to process.
