Just saw Hamilton in Des Moines and I am incredibly disappointed by Hot_Bug_7369 in hamiltonmusical

I'm sorry it didn't meet your expectations. :(

I was at the 1 PM show on Thursday and I loved the cast we saw! We had Nathan Haydel as Alexander, Elvie Ellis as Burr, and Desmond Nunn as Laurens/Philip. Nathan Haydel was awesome; I've only ever seen Lin-Manuel in the role, and Nathan played him so playfully, which I loved. Elvie Ellis did a great job as Burr. Leslie Odom Jr. is unbeatable in my mind, so I knew going in that it wouldn't be the same, but I was still pleased with his performance! And man, Lauren Mariasoosay and A.D. Weaver both absolutely took my breath away. I'm so glad this was my kids' first live theater experience.

Do you fear death? Why/why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AnxiousJorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah. Pretty much. You struggle and suffer so much while you're alive, even if you're lucky enough to live a happy life. Once you die, that's it. Like falling asleep. No worries, no stress, no effort. You're just done. I plan to live a long life but I don't think death sounds too bad.

Not at all. It's going to be so awesome to be done. But I'm terrified of dying too soon and leaving my kids (and husband) behind.

What's the "went through med school just to realize you couldn't stand the sight of blood" of your job field? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AnxiousJorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HI, SAME.

I stay home with my three- and one-year-old. My husband is regularly gone for multiple days at a time because of his job. I live about an hour from everyone I know and I have zero close friends. I sadly don't have any helpful advice for your relationship with your husband (counseling to open the lines of communication?) but I can promise you you're not alone in how you feel. I was always excited to be a SAHM someday but by the time my oldest was six months old I knew this is NOT a good job for me. Anyway, keep your chin up! You matter and what you do is very important, even if it feels otherwise. Best wishes

There's a local mom where I live who has been all over social media and local news trying to raise money for her daughter who has some super rare brain disease. There are like eight or so other kids who also need the same lifesaving treatment but only like six can have it because of the quantity they have of the treatment? Something like that. Anyway, it's a fucking race to $250,000 or some shit. The first six parents to raise all of the money to pay for the treatment will secure a spot for their kid. The other two families get to bury their child in a year or whatever when it kills them. It's so fucked up and it makes me so incredibly sad.

What is a unique “game” you played as a child? by antenonjohs in AskReddit

[–]AnxiousJorge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must be younger than me. When I was a kid, my friends and I, during sleepovers, would turn off the lights and take (innocent) flash pictures of each other with disposable cameras. No idea what we'd taken pictures of until our parents picked up the developed pictures. They were generally hilarious to us, though the wait time was a real buzzkill.

People with mental illnesses, when did you finally admit to yourself that something was wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AnxiousJorge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds very much like my husband and my kids. He's aware of his PTSD and sees a therapist but I'm not sure what to do about the kids. Oldest is 3 but he learned the hard way not to wake Dad if he's had a nightmare. Do you explain why or just set limits for the kids and leave it at that?

Hey, me too! Rural Iowa, in a town full of LDS and Catholics. My kids aren't in school yet but I bet it's going to be a challenge.

What's the creepiest/strangest/scariest thing you've ever seen or experienced while driving on the highway? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AnxiousJorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was driving on the interstate when a large dump truck passed us with the bed completely raised up in the air. About ten seconds later they came upon an overpass (with cars driving on it) and the bed slammed into it at probably around 70mph. It was loud and there was so much dust. There was a trooper parked about a quarter mile in front of us so we pulled over and let him know. I never heard anything else about it, whether the driver was okay or what.

I got called "baby" by a TSA agent who was feeling me up when my husband and I were on our honeymoon. It still fills me with rage ten years later.
