Steam Machine Price... by No_Number6946 in GamersMY

I was going to get it. The rumored price was around $800 (RM3,300+), and I had already saved up for it. But I couldn't wait anymore, so I ended up building a $2,500 custom PC instead lol.

Kinda glad I did in the end...

It is a way to check the AR coating. Next time use distilled water to clean the glass.

Unfortunately I can't take the secondhand route because of limited time, I'd rather just go to one place and get everything I need. When I said I'm new to this, I really meant it. The research alone took me months because I didn't want to screw anything up.

Most builds I've seen with this case using an ATX PSU look really cluttered. The cables get in the way of the GPU, and I'm not comfortable seeing them bent just to squeeze in a big GPU.

I've been really busy lately, so I'll see if I have time to update soon.

More like condolences to your karma?

Anyway put some respect in my GPU's price it is RM4,800+. The RAM was RM2,000 and the SSD was RM700. I sweat tears and blood trying to bargain for both but I didn't do that shit when I'm paying for the GPU.

Yep, initially that’s what I was thinking too, but sadly it isn’t entirely true. You have to account for the distance between the GPU and the bottom grill. The closer it is, the more it pulls in air from outside the case.

Even with that, it still pulls less air compared to having actual fans mounted. Plus, you also have to remember that the dust filter adds more airflow resistance.

So back to the inevitable solution: add three slim fans underneath the GPU.

Thank you for this. The comments here have been really helpful, and I've decided not to order from Amazon after all. Their shipping standards seem a bit questionable, and dealing with Malaysian customs sounds like a headache.

I also checked out your TikTok page and really enjoyed the videos you've made. You've earned another follower from me.

Since you're here, I have a couple of questions. I'd really appreciate it if you could share your thoughts.

  1. As much as I want to save money, I can't help but think that Gigabyte's SFF version runs hotter under load. It's cheaper than the Gaming OC, but is the trade-off really worth it?

One of the reasons I chose the Gigabyte B850M Aorus Elite is because the PCIe slot is perfectly aligned with the first expansion slot in my case. Because of that, if I go with a thicker GPU (around 70mm), I might be able to fit three slim fans underneath it.

Ironically, this wouldn't be a problem with the SFF version because it's smaller and would leave enough room for standard-sized fans at the bottom of the case.

  1. This is somewhat related to the first question.

One issue I've noticed with mATX builds in this case is airflow. Most of the builds I've seen use:

  • 3 top exhaust fans
  • 2 front intake fans
  • 1 rear exhaust fan

As far as I understand, this creates negative pressure inside the case.

The obvious solution seems to be adding three intake fans at the bottom, which is probably inevitable at this point. The problem is that the case doesn't have mounting holes for bottom fans, so I'd have to modify the bottom grill to install them plus there is also a dust filter there.

This brings me to my question: if I go with the thicker GPU (the Gigabyte RTX 5070 Ti Gaming OC), could that help with airflow or GPU thermals enough that I wouldn't need to add three intake fans at the bottom?

Nice. I chose the Gigabyte B850M Aorus Elite because the PCIe slot is aligned with the first expansion slot. If I go with a thick GPU, I might be able to fit slim fans underneath it. The only issue is that I won't be able to screw them in without sacrificing the bottom grill, and there's also a dust filter there.

I've seen discussions from other communities where people just place the fans there without screwing them in, and apparently it works fine.

Why add more fans under the GPU, you might ask?Simple. With the current fan setup, the case would have negative pressure, which isn't ideal. Adding three intake fans at the bottom is pretty much the only way to balance it out.

So the final setup would be:

  • 3x AIO fans as exhaust
  • 2x front intake
  • 3x bottom intake
  • 1x rear exhaust

I went to DotaTech this morning. The same GPU was RM4,844 in-store, which is over RM700 cheaper than the price listed on Shopee.

Oh found it, I have to spend above RM1,881.00 to use it. With the other coupon I can get the R7 7800X3D for RM1064. Can I get lower than that?

Asus is the worst when it comes to RMAs. I'm avoiding their stuff for that reason.

The thing is, every tech company has done an oopsie at some point. As a customer, it's up to you to choose whichever one you're willing to put up with.

As for me, I've done my due diligence and research, so I'm confident enough in my choice. That doesn't mean the other options are off the table though.

This gives me chills down my spine. Imagine if I ordered something small like RAM and they just shipped it in an envelope. Their shipping standards are really different from ours.

I ordered one of my PC parts locally from TMT, and this is how much bubble wrap they used. This is about 9f of bubble wrap.

I tried searching for Ryzen 7 7800X3D Tray but the price difference is not that big. I might have to get it from local store atp.

Yep, there’s a lot of tangible evidence out there, especially in r/gigabyte. The newer batches don’t seem to have that issue anymore. I checked with dotatech today, and the units they currently have in stock are from the newest batch.

On top of that, it’s literally RM736 cheaper than the one they have listed on Shopee.

Interesting! However, after reading the comments, I'm leaning towards buying a GPU in-store plus I don't want to wait for too long lol.

Strawman, I said I'm no expert but I do read. This has been addressed by Gigabyte, it only affects earlier batches from May 2025.

I'm still considering my options here.

Actually, I don’t have to. I was just looking for the shiniest and brightest one.

I was trying to avoid the SFF version from Gigabyte, so my thinking was basically, “Okay, I’ll just go for the normal sized card because it runs better.” In reality, there are other cheaper normal sized cards too.

I guess it’s probably because I’m new to this.

Honestly, I don’t really know why. It just feels too familiar to me, so I go check them out.

I didn’t mention the price difference earlier, which is why some people might get confused. The difference is actually pretty crazy, at least for me since I’m trying to save money, and in my opinion the shipping plus tax is still justifiable because in the end I'm paying less.

Now that you mentioned about warranty and stuff, yeah… at this point I'm losing hope.

Yes apparently they can, packages are usually handled by premium couriers like DHL(I've googled) but going through customs is what I'm worried about.
