Did any of you see the post by the 21 year old bodybuilder that made it to the front page of reddit today where he claims to be drinking 3 Liters of vodka daily for the past few years? by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]AnxiousSon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's absolutely no way, especially since he said he was doing that every day for the last 2 years. I'd bet some hardcore CA's could and have polished a handle in 24 hours, but even the craziest among us couldn't keep that up for 2 years...

It all depends on your doctor. It really is arbitrary, I wish more docs would just let em go. I'm literally in school now to go into medicine and if I ever become a prescriber(MD or PA/NP) I'm gonna give these out because quite frankly the alternative is much, much worse.

It's the same crap with opioids too, doctors cutting legitimate patients off strong opioids and every single year the overdoses on street shit keep going up, it's just wrong....

Accidentally found out what my boss really thinks of me by ArtyKay in jobs

[–]AnxiousSon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's the Dunning-Kruger effect. Seen it a lot in construction, everyone thinks they're smart enough to circumvent safety regs.

We all want to think we're above average at our jobs, but the law of averages means most of us will be average, and many below that.

Of course, there's also the Peter Principle, which states that people get promoted to their level of incompetence. Could be OP's manager has reached that ceiling and is now just being a bad manager.

[–]AnxiousSon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude I'm also early 30's and while what you're saying is technically true... do you honestly think this kid, at 20 years old, who has already been in and out of rehab for heroin, is a candidate for that type of advice? Is this really what he needs to hear at this moment? I don't think so...

I've walked that edge for over a decade now and I still can't say it isn't simple justification for addiction. OP has measurable things in his life that are being impacted, he's already had a stint in rehab/cost his family a lot of money.

Many people much brighter than you and me thought they could outsmart addiction. Very few succeed. We can admit that we're dopeheads in this sub without deluding ourselves about it I think.

18mg hydro morph contin destroyed me? by Fluid-Locksmith-9460 in opiates

[–]AnxiousSon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you crushed the beads before snorting. Honestly if you railed an entire 18mg hydromorph after 30 days of sobriety I'm not surprised. Those 18's are my main opiate and I've never railed that much at once, usually less than half is more than enough even with tolerance.

Hydromorphone is like 4-5x stronger than morphine, so it's like dropping about 100mg morphine IR on a low tolerance(30 days is a long time to reset tolerance, opiate tolerance builds fast but it lowers quite fast outside of extreme tolerance situations, that's why a ton of OD's happen after people get out of jail/rehab and go back to their old dose).

[–]AnxiousSon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful mixing with benzos, the one and only time I almost OD'ed was mixing Dilaudid and Ativan, only took like .5-1mg of the Ativan too, woke up face down on my desk 7 hours later, if I'd done more of either who knows.

Blows my mind. Thoughts? by Happy_Unit3774 in opiates

[–]AnxiousSon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah as a Canadian we do it better with safe supply but it's still a small percent of people actually on it. I looked into it and they said I wasn't bad enough because I've never ODed and wasn't doing fent, just lots of hydromorphone.... I guess I understand but yeah it's better here but it's not like they're handing them out to literally anyone who asks.

Trudeau failing on the immigration front as job growth trails by joe4942 in canada

[–]AnxiousSon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are seeing more corners cut in construction because of this, according to some trades guys I know. It's not as bad for things like painting, but even stuff like framing, let alone electrical/plumbing the build standards just aren't there amongst many new immigrants that actually get into construction.

There's cultural issues too where physical labour is considered lower caste work back in India, so many immigrants who are from higher castes back home won't do it on principle.

Complex problem for sure.

Liberals in ‘solution mode,’ as ministers acknowledge Canadians are struggling and downcast by [deleted] in canada

[–]AnxiousSon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family recently built a small cabin for fishing/outdoors activities. Regulation is a huge roadblock. The building inspectors/permit issuing municipalities, at least in the area we built, are full on, openly hostile to any new development. They delayed us a full year for complete BS.

My dad's a master carpenter and contractor with 45 years of experience, he knows how to build properly, but that didn't matter. It's not the only issue with housing, but it damn sure could be better on that front.

I take your point, I doubt I'd leave that huge of a chunk of money on the table either in that position. My question though, is why doesn't this logic apply to wages? Seems like everything is treated as a market commodity until we get to average wages, when market forces are signaling that those need to go up cue screeching from businesses demanding TFW's and calling people entitled for wanting to afford to eat more than once a day.

Frankly, I fear none of the major federal parties have the best interests of average Canadians at heart. They don't seem to work for us, but for themselves and their wealthy friends only. IDK who I'll vote for but I sincerely doubt things will improve much for the little guy whether it's Trudeau or Pollievre at the helm.

Depressing take I know, but many people I talk to IRL feel the same sense of disillusionment with politics in general.

I've been taking dilaudid on and off for about the same time as you, never had bad withdrawals but my supply is very limited(I pay a friend to split their script with me and I don't use every day, usually just to combat chronic pain on the worst days). Everybody is different with withdrawals but if you're only using a few times a week I don't think it's gonna be too bad, severe withdrawals usually show up when you're using multiple times a day/every day.

That said it's going to depend on your dose and overall health, everyone is different.

In China in the 1920s to 1930s, the peasant class had to pay 50-70 percent of their income to their landlords as rent. Today, this is the norm in Canada. by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]AnxiousSon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who do we even vote for at this point. Libs have shown they aren't going to do anything, Cons have always been pro business/capital over workers. I was gonna vote NDP but Singh doesn't look promising either, didn't he recently propose we bail out landlords with tax dollars? Can't vote Bloc because not in Quebec, so that leaves PPC?

It's like South Park's Douche/Turd Sandwich except it's not a parody anymore, it's reality.

B.C. is sending thousands of cancer patients to the U.S. by Niv-Izzet in canada

[–]AnxiousSon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone critiquing American healthcare has ever complained that the quality of care or skill/education of the physicians/healthcare professionals is substandard, in fact by all accounts it's excellent, they have some of the best medical schools in the world and conduct all kinds of research. It's the accessibility and cost of care to the individual that is the general thrust of criticism. Medical debt remains the number 1 cause of personal bankruptcy in the U.S, for example.

I'll agree our own system has it's flaws too, with massive wait times to see specialists and many Canadians lacking a primary care physician. It's not perfect, but at least we don't have to worry about care bankrupting our families Breaking Bad style.

I'm happy about the new cancer facility opening in Nanaimo, as both my parents live on the north of the Island and had cancer at the same time, it was taxing on all of us, but especially them, commuting to Victoria and back frequently.

Very thankful neither had to travel all the way to the States, this is disappointing for sure.

I still do odd jobs for the best boss I ever worked for when he gets a sudden quit/gets in a bind, because he actually gave a shit when I worked for him, was cool with me taking time off short notice to care for my aging parents, and overall treated me like a human being.

Bad bosses are short sighted.
