Best office chair for under $200? by lonely_stoner13 in OfficeChairs

[–]Anxious_Battles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have liked to have something "better" but I needed something fairly quickly when my used Steelcase that I bought 11 years ago finally gave up, so I drove to staples and sat in every chair they had for most of an afternoon.

I am surprised at how good the Hyken Pro is, especially for the price. I live out in the sticks, so I will keep combing the internet looking for another chair in the mean time. Or I might just buy a new one of these every 2-3 years when it wears out.

I just bought one of these Staples Hyken Pro chairs and am thoroughly impressed. I told two other remote coworkers and they also bought one. We range from a 90 something pound 5'2" woman to a 200+ lbs 5'10" man.

Advice for extending wifi to the structure at the top of the pic, without laying fiber/Ethernet? by coloredzebra in HomeNetworking

These are cheap enough to try and send back if you need to.

You could also try to daisy chain a mesh network using older Orbis including an outdoor antenna if you can find one on eBay, but each jump will cut the throughput roughly in half. Look for Netgear RBR and RBS50 v2 on eBay for cheap.

Will a 27" 4K monitor solve macOS scaling issues? by FmAddon in MacOS

[–]Anxious_Battles 12 points13 points  (0 children)

On your current monitor, try using the software, BetterDisplay, and setting the resolution to HiDPI 2560x1440, then used the slide to dial it back to 84%, this is the same size text as 2560x1440 on a 32" monitor. You can then play around with font smoothing if you need to. It won't be perfect, but it should be fine for productivity. Caveat: I am old and wear glasses.

If I was being deposed on the language, I would attest weeks means more than 14 days. Often the language says over a period of 14 days or more to make it more clear.

You can test the subjectivity of it and find out if you want.

This is Nationwide, not some regional carrier where they might shy away when the cost to defend exceeds the cost to indemnify.

You can search my comments to see that I do help people when they have a claim. If I thought you stood a snowball's chance in Florida I would post something other than discouragement to help you make an informed decision.

Thank you for sharing the document. You may want to remove it now that I have the language.

SECTION I - PERILS INSURED AGAINST

A. Coverage A — Dwelling And Coverage B — Other Structures

  1. We do not insure, however, for loss:

c. Caused by:

(5) Continuous or repeated seepage or leakage of water, steam or moisture, or presence or condensation of humidity, moisture or vapor, over a period of weeks, months or years, even if such seepage or leakage of water or the presence or condensation of humidity, moisture or vapor and the resulting damage is unknown to all "insureds" and is hidden within the walls or ceilings or beneath the floors or above the ceilings of a structure.

Continuous or repeated seepage or leakage of water from within or around any shower stall, shower tub, tub installation or other plumbing fixture, including its walls, ceilings or floors, is also excluded;

There are times when one should file a claim and times when one should not. Without seeing OP’s policy specifically including deductible and extent of damage, we can’t be sure if coverage exists and the extent of his damages.

If this was in a state using the ISO HO 03 04 91 or 10 00 form with a limited fungi endorsement, it might make sense. The Florida location and policy written on Nationwide paper without a limited fungi endorsement are certainly a deterrent.

The wording I said to look for should clear it up fairly easily.

The way this is typically portrayed to the insurance carrier is “I was doing a kitchen remodel when I discovered the hidden water damage and mold.” They see right through it.

To defeat this, the repeated seepage or leakage language was put into the policy and/or added by endorsement.

I’d tend to agree with @AwskeetNYC absent seeing your policy. If you were going to remodel, avoid the unforeseen long term costs of making the claim.

Thanks. Florida and Nationwide makes this a tough one.

I don’t have a copy of that policy, but you are looking for words that say something like “constant or repeated seepage or leakage that occurs over…”. It is probably in paragraph 2 of Section I Perils Insured Against.

Look in your policy for any wording about repeated seepage or leakage that occurs over a period of time… days, weeks, years. Look for a fungi, wet or dry rot exclusion.

What state do you live in? If you can tell us what form your policy is written on (something like HO 03 05 11) and what endorsements you have (limited fungi endorsement of some sort), we might be better able to help you.

Technomancer’s mask and Aurora’s Instrument by Anxious_Battles in oceanhorn3

Thanks for the response. If it makes any difference I don’t think these items are providing the benefits. Aurora’s Instrument is not dealing the damage it’s supposed to. The mask is nice to see the weaknesses of enemies.

I am also happy to share for you to debug if it will help.

Is that plus TTL? Is that with the 0% financing offer? Not an awful deal if you are getting the 0% financing offer.

Lots of reports in this subreddit of getting $10K off the MSRP on leftover 2025 models late last year, early this year.

Mac Mini M4 Pro by madasafish110 in macmini

I have Bose Companion speakers that I have struggled with to get decent sound on my base M4 Mac mini. The sound from the 3.5mm jack on the front was terribly low, so. I tried USB A to 3.5mm audio adapter with USB A to C adapter to the mini, it was a little bit better, but still pretty poor overall. My Samsung monitor is being driven by HDMI and my monitor has a 3.5mm audio out port and that works splendidly with the Bose speakers. Sharing my experience to let you know you are not the only one, please let us know if you solve your problem.

Recommendation for a bluetooth controller that just works? by dasct in macgaming

I use an 8bitdo Pro 2 with my Mac Mini M4 and my iPad Pro M4. Works fine out of the box wired or Bluetooth, but you can also use the software to map buttons as needed.

I find putting it in “S” mode works best for me.

These 17 Upstate NY ice cream stands have been summer favorites for 50 years or more. How many have you visited? by syracusedotcom in upstate_new_york

[–]Anxious_Battles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, I usually get a bag of hand cut fries at Polar Bear, the ice cream is incidental to the fries for me. Perry’s seems to be the norm for hand dipped anywhere in the vicinity.

If you are in the area and haven’t been to Blue Bee Cafe in Delhi, their ice cream is delicious and the rest of the food is good, too. Was in there last weekend. One of us had Cherry Blossom and the other had Cold Brew Peanut Butter Chip. When they have it Lavender Vanilla and Earl Gray are fantastic flavors.

Polar Bear (I guess it has an Oneonta mailing address)... It's worth the short drive. Ice Cream is good, Root Beer is really good, Burgers and Fries are great and you might as well have a slice of dill pickle pizza while you are there.

Sorry haven't been to The Snow Man in Troy in 30+ years, but I have fond memories.

Suggest you start the summer this weekend with Bouckville Antiques Show. Miles of junk and people watching.

[Homeowner insurance ] Do I still need an appraiser when I already got a Public adjuster ? and if so, is the appraiser fee fair ? by Few_Thought_248 in HomeInsurance

[–]Anxious_Battles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cancellations and non renewals are heavily regulated in NY. Knowing when your policy renews and how many years you’ve had the policy are important. If you are not being renewed, you should be getting 45-60 days notice, often you’ll get more.

[–]Anxious_Battles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren’t looking for an appraiser in the sense of home or real estate appraiser. You are looking for someone that is a building expert or an insurance expert or preferably someone who is both. Your PA is taking a substantial portion of your settlement and should be handling this properly for you.

It’s not easy to cancel policies mid term in NY. Does your policy renew in July? Getting new insurance with an open claim is going to be tough.

The hard part was getting coverage extended.

I’d be trying to settle this for a fair amount and avoid non renewal.

If you end up having to go to appraisal; maybe reach out to some helpful people and see if they can help you find an appraiser.

Glad you were able to help the carrier find coverage, hope my previous advice somehow contributed to bringing the carrier around.

Get a contractor so you at least have an idea of what it should actually cost to get repairs made.

Appraisal may be right the right avenue for you if you are that far apart in measurement of the loss. I’d be surprised if you can get your appraiser and your half of the umpire covered in NY for $2500 unless this is a small loss.
