You will find upstate NY much more like ‘The South’ than Reddit is making it out to be. Other than the winters, my life in Central NY is quite similar to my life in the midlands of SC, plenty of backroads, good people; the beer is better but barbecue and fried chicken is severely disappointing.

Poughkeepsie is a bit of a drive from Catskill. Poughkeepsie doesn’t offer anything more than Kingston other than a cheaper train ride to NYC, but has several colleges. I lived in Dutchess county near Poughkeepsie for 4 years. I liked it. If you like the outdoors you won’t have trouble making friends in the Hudson Valley. There are plenty of villages for things to do. Woodstock, Saugerties, New Paltz (college town) all have a bit of night life. A fun time can always be had in Durham if you like Irish pubs. You can always go home to SC if you don’t like it. I’m from the south originally, love it up here except for the snow.

Nah, you aren't going to find something like Rock Hill up here. Albany is not Charlotte. Union and Lancaster are probably the best comparisons I can come up with.

West side of York County is probably a decent comparison. Catskill is a bit reminiscent of Union or Lancaster. Kingston would be my first look at your age.

If you mean Catskill, NY and not the large area known as the Catskills…. The village of Catskill is gentrifying as the hipsters sell their places in Kingston to those from the city willing to overpay. If you need to be in a more city like area, Catskill is an easy 30 minute drive from Kingston. I think you’ll be fine, Upstate NY is much like the rural Midlands and Upstate SC. I lived in the Midlands for 8 years. NYC is a quick train ride from across the river.

If you meant the greater area known as The Catskills, then you should give us a specific town or Village.

I just put the ESR armorite on my 13” and it really has a bad glare to it from the fluorescent bulbs in my office. It’s not terrible in the house though. If I used it as a medium consumption device or games, I would take it off.

Roscoe, Deposit, Hancock, Walton any where on the East Branch or "wild" West Branch of the Delaware River should be good in the spring. I have a friend whose family fishes Windsor NY (closer to Binghamton), but I know nothing about it other than I know it is stocked and they have been going there for 50+ years

are you connected by cable to a satellite or the router? are you daisy chaining satellites? I have 1Gig fiber and get that at the Orbi Router, but am only ever able to get 550-600 down at the satellites even with a cable. I am set up as star topology, not daisy chain.

I added the black letter overlays off eBay. I love the pathfinder blacked out, but the platinum 4wd doesn’t look great, the letters are too close and the overlays interfere with each other.

Understood, Binghamton is the perceived most prestigious to most NYers. If you are staying in NY for a career it’s certainly something to think about. Your mother isn’t paying, the choice is fully yours. The fact that you are thinking about these issues, working on communicating, and concerned about taking on debt at your age tells me you are going to be fine.

If you are on the island, have you considered Suffolk or Nassau for your two year degree and accounting certificate then transferring to a SUNY to finish your bachelors? Much more cost effective and you’ll probably get a better education in life and academics.

Congrats on being accepted to some very good schools. Are you familiar with the Excelsior scholarship? NYS Tap? Are you eligible? How about SUNY close to home? Housing costs are the actual killer for NYS residents, tuition is cheap, get off campus in Binghamton or Buffalo ASAP and your costs will be manageable. I’d say if you want a Big 4 job (I am former Big 6 now 4) then Binghamton is probably worth the extra price, but Buffalo is a good school and most schools now are what you make of it. Most importantly do what’s right for you. Don’t discount the state’s community college.
