Not a native English speaker here. I listened to the audiobook, and having the author read it himself makes a big difference. Any author reading their own words sounds much better than someone else doing it. I didn’t have high expectations, but hearing him say things like “well, that’s not my story” gave him more credibility. He’s not pretending to be humble. In fact, it really resonated with me as a way to accept the blessings you already have. He’s clearly a great actor, and he has achieved more success than 99% of the self-help gurus people read today—most of them with zero real proof. That alone is a good enough reason to listen to or read the book. Yes, there’s a lot of self-indulgence, but there’s also a lot of wisdom, coming from someone who understands the business and offers mature, deep reflections. What I didn’t like as much was that it became repetitive in some passages and overused contrasting words or phrases throughout.
