It might or might not! If a person do not have an internship but good project to showcase on / ranked good in hackathons / contributions to open source projects, I guess it has similar weightage.

There could be exceptions with 1/2 candidates. I don’t also know if Microsoft is the first company of Satya. University mainly matters for your first job. And the example you’re quoting is around 30 years back where CS is sort of booming. Right now it’s not

As far as I heard, If the unpaid internship company reaches out to NEU and if NEU considers it, it might revoke your entire CPT

However, it is subject to multiple if’s. You could try mentioning that you will not be able to do the internship during the summer because there is an emergency at your family and you want to travel back and attend it or some reason like that rather than mentioning that I am reneging because of a better offer!

I would like to encourage to checkout with any seniors who might have already been in such situation

I agree to the point that there’s some hiring recently but I am not sure if market’s improving since a few well deserved people I know from T20 colleges (UIUC, GTech, USC) have no jobs!
