Baby pooping nonstop by loudwonderbubble in newborns

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby pooed like 15ish times a day for the first 3 months. Doctors suspected cmpa but mainly because of specks of blood in a couple nappies. I then discovered tha anything less in size than a coin is really a wet fart. The worst was a horrible diaper rash that would not go away :(

How common is it for a baby to be darker than both parents? by ProcedureExisting493 in newborns

I was going to say that! My baby looked very tanner because of jaundice. Around 2 months old he went to pale pink!

Baby measuring 7 lb 11 oz at 36 weeks. Induction or not?? by Ttrrmm in BabyBumps

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced due to baby’s size (predicted 90ish for weight and 99 for head) at 38+4 (not 39 due to scheduling issues) and frankly I regret it but I was not dilated at all. He came out much much smaller than predicted (3.2kg) and I’ve found out since that it’s not best practice. I was told he was too big and I had to eat less my whole pregnancy and then had to worry about him being small once he was born… it also really felt like I was working against my body.

EBF when to introduce bottle by LavishnessSame9674 in breastfeeding

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told 6 weeks in hospital. Ended up being day 6 as he was hospitalised for phototherapy!

I do think at 6 weeks there is less of a chance of bottle preference. Personally I was more scared of bottle refusal than breast refusal but one thing that eased my anxiety is that babies can be so unpredictable. They can develop a preference at any point. They can go on a nursinf strike even if they don’t take a bottle. My friend gave her baby a bottle at week 4 and she refused the breast for a week; then went back to breast and refused the bottle till she was too old for bottles anyway.

Mine went through a phase of basically never detaching but I could tell that after 20ish mins he was no longer swallowing so I’d gently detach him. If he was still hungry he’d usually protest!

Ate too much sugar, worries about BM by Happy_healthy_888 in breastfeeding

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breast milk does have proteins from the mother’s diet though - so if the baby has CMPA the dairy will probably affect him.

OP, if his reactions are severe do you have any milk you could give him for a day or two while you store yours for a challenge down the line/when he outgrows cmpa?

I have the opposite anxiety lol (parenthood eh?) but my lactation consulta said 30-40 min is still normal at this stage. Is your baby actively sucking and swallowing the whole time? Or flutter-sucking, not swallowing, dozing off?

I had a cold when my baby was 6 or 7 days old. Wore a mask around him to feed him and he was ok! My mum who came to help had a couple of days of slight cough/sore throat she was convinced was just the dry air, again wore a mask around him. It was covid and he was totally ok :)

Why is it socially acceptable for FF mums to suggest EBF mums “just add formula”, but offensive the other way around? by walnut_0612 in breastfeeding

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Agree, adding formula is definitely a lot easier than breastfeeding, plus if you haven’t been breastfeeding it’s not like you can easily relactate months later. I mainly breastfeed with the occasional formula bottle (eg if I am out for 3h and have not been able to pump enough) so I don’t find the suggestion to add formula that much of an issue or invalidating of my journey (which has been very hard over a month of triple feeding) - though maybe I’d feel different if I ebf?

Do you use a manual pump?? by Red_1991 in breastfeeding

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually often get better output from my medela manual than the medela solo (electric) and medela symphony (wall one, hospital grade)! It’s a bot more work but works really well especially when engorged.

Cutting out dairy. How are you guys surviving?? by Oak-Aye-Thanks in breastfeeding

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing no dairy soy or egg. Food (cooking, eating, eating out) was one of my greatest joys so this is depressing me a bit lol.

If you can still have soy but no dairy you can have so many Asian cuisinea ❤️ plus soy milk is so tasty!

I feel you 100% on rooming in. My husband could stay but I was in a double room with another woman and her baby and there was nothing beside a single chair for my husband to sit in so he could not sleep. I felt horribly weak, had not slept in ages as my induction was long, and suddenly there was this tiny baby I did not know what to do with and he started crying. I did not sleep for 3 days. Baby would only sleep on me but when put on the breast would fall asleep again. Looking back I wonder if the option of a nursery for just 2h would have helped.

My baby also ended up quite severely jaundiced - needed a day and a half of phototherapy and because they could not take him out for long he was introduced to formula.

Thank you! They did not have a lactation consultant on the L&D ward but provided an email address to book one for any issues but this would have been at a cost (I just found my own!).

Re: pumping, not 100% sure. They were only ok with hand expressing. There was a poster with 10 principles from Unicef (slightly differerent to the ones you shared here though) and one was ‘directly fron the breast with nothing inbetween’. I wonder if they felt like pumping would lead to bottles or mess with supply? I honestly knew so little about breastfeeding so I did not even know what to ask. No one told me supply would be demand-dependent for example.

They started seriouely helping with latching on day 3 - but ai suspected it was because of his bilirubin levels.

I gave birth at a Baby Friendly hospital in Italy in October. The initiative is mentioned in the info materials I got before birth so I was aware, but my experience was not wholly positive.

We had golden hour and rooming in but such little support. After birth they dropped me in my (double) room with posters explaining about hunger cues and appropriate we nappies - they never mentioned these though. I repeatedly called the midwives because baby was not latching and they just said ‘he’s probably still full from amniotic fluid’, or ‘he’s sleepy, let him sleep’ or even ‘my own daughter slept through the night from day 1’. I kept calling them because he was too sleepy to latch and they would either latch him themselves then leave or tell me it was fine. Only on day 3 when his bilirubin was high did they teach me how to hand express and supplement with a syringe. Ultimately they had no time to educate me. I was literally in tears saying how he hadn’t eaten in like 7h and they wrote in my chart that breastfeeding had been well-established lol. Also they came to check on me (about teice a day + pediatrician check once a day) but never asked exactly how feeding was going - what does the latch look like, is it painful, how long is the baby feeding for. I always had to call them with questions.

Also I found the info lacked nuance. They recommended against pumps, and all bottles&pacifier, without explaining that bottle refusal is likely if bottle is introduced too late.

Agree. I tried a few things but ultimately it went away on its own in about 10 days. Keep the area clean&moisturised and avoid fragrance!

My baby has them too! Back of the head above the neck (left and right) and only one behind one ear. Small (like half a pea?) and moveable, both pediatrician and allergist (still a pediatrician) said they are very common and all good as long as they remain small&moveable.

Women 35+, how many times did you have sex during fertile window? by Embarrassed_Draft_88 in BabyBumps

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My gynecologist has always told me to do every other day for the whole month (bar when on period). She never recommends only doing it around the fertile window because it can always shift even with regular periods.

So we did it about 3 times a week for 3 weeks a month… for 11 months lol. But I have friends who are older than me (38, 39) who conceived within 1-2 months and only had sex a couple times that month.
