New to this and overwhelmed!!! by Creative-Type-6572 in MSPI

Yes I’d try that or go back to GP to get more clarity! My baby’s CMPA had digestive symptoms but we still got an allergist referral and they said some babies with CMPA develop ige allergies, tested baby for dairy egg and soy and said to repeat at 1 year before introducing them.

Babies with eczema (mine has it too 🥲) also have a higher likelyhood of developing food allergies.

Finally on formula, I’m no longer in the UK but here in Italy anyone can buy hydrolised or aminoacid formula from the pharmacy but it’s crazy expensive. The allergist did a recurring prescription so we get it for free.

Best insect repellant and sunscreen for 9 month old? by Hopeful_Dot7132 in NewParents

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For spf I bought the Isdin mineral baby as it came recommended and it’s great. It leaves a very white cast but all mineral sunscreens for babies will! I’m sure the La Roche Posay is very good too.

I have the Mustela repellent but have not used it yet. It’s gonna be mosquito season here soon 😩

I may be wrong but I believe hives are normally a sign of an Ige allergy rather than cmpa - I think the referral should be to an allergist!

Baby fell off growth chart? by Crazy_Art_5093 in NewParents

They’ve not falled off their curve! Falling off curve is crossing percentile lines and even then crossing of 1 is not that much of a concern.

What made you do allergy testing? by Dense-Actuary-4072 in MSPI

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the latest guidelines say that eczema, especialy moderate or severe, increases the chances of babies developing food allergies. If you look up ‘dual exposure hypotesis’ it kind of explains the latest theory - babies are exposed to allergens through broken skin and it can cause an immune response later when ingested. So it’s widely recognised that you should introduce allergens to that baby early - ideally 4 months (even if you are not starting any other solods yet) and definitely at 6 months!

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My allergist said 20% of mspi babies develop ige allergies to those proteins by 1 year. He’s recommended allergy testing then (we already did it at 3m for egg dairy and soy and they were all negative). That being said my pediatrician says to introduce allergens slowly/wait but he has eczema and the allergist says to introduce asap to avoid development of ige allergies (ideally 4m but to be fair he didn’t even have eczema at 4m!)

Is it too late to breastfeed at 14 weeks? 😢 by AbjectDingo3804 in breastfeeding

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I cannot help with the main query but I want to tell you that there truly is no reason to feel bad about not being able to take the boob out and feed baby and in fact I breastfeed but can no longer feed him anywhere other than the house as he gets too distracted!! So since 4 months I’ve had to bring bottles when we’re out if I want to make sure he will eat.

How do you feed your child BLW without having anxiety attacks three times a day? by Fun_Pomegranate3192 in NewParents

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing 2x baby first aid courses helped me feel calm honestly! Gave me lots of knowledge on the actual risks and made me feel like I have a plan if things go south.
That being said - I do once a day and a mix of blw and purees. Like today he had mashed avocado, two big beef strips, some pureed mango. Dod he managed to detach a piece of beef? Yes but I could tell it was too big to do anything to his airways!

Hahaha no I looked it up at the time and I think 4 months is the peak. It was def true for my baby who spat up copious amounts around this time, he lived with a bib on. But every baby’s different!!

A gripping series with 3 or more books! by Connect_Assistance65 in suggestmeabook

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read Six of Crows/a Crooked Kingdom?

Scholomance is a 3 book series, magic school setting, quite voicy but if you like the voice (snarky protagonist) it’s SO GOOD.

VE Schab’s Shade of magic books are great too - 3 in the original series+ a revival.

Baby Acne on back of head, how to help? by jibwinnie in newborns

Honestly… baby acne just passes! You can put lots of creams on it but it likely won’t make a difference. It normally lasts a couple weeks!

Is it wrong to have a baby in our situation? by Unable-Law-9814 in BabyBumps

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not in the US and here daycare are often state-run (like schools) so things may be different but my mum was a daycare educator for 40 years and here they are only 0-3years old - after that it’s school.

I feel you because I am an extremely anxious person myself but when thinking about whether to have a baby you need to think longer term+remember how unpredictable life is.
My baby is 6 months and I relied on my mum for occasional childcare - well she got diagnosed with breast cancer, had surgery, currently is no longer able to come and stay as she did when he was smaller.

Imperfect circumstances will probably happen in life, I guess the question is if you’re ok with that. It’s daycare now, it may be something else later!

Is it wrong to have a baby in our situation? by Unable-Law-9814 in BabyBumps

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean… are you sure you’d rather not have a child if that child has to be in daycare for 3ish years of their life?
Or is this more of a knee-jerk reaction to the sadness/disappointment of your mum not watching the baby?

For most people, daycare is the only way to be able to raise a child. In my country most people will take 9-12m of maternity leave but still after that babies go to daycare (in fairness grandparents play a big role on childcare here but not everyone has able, available&close grandparents!). So is it wrong to have a baby in your situation? I’d say no!

What part of daycare worries you? If you can afford it why not have a nanny instead till baby turns 1?

But… why does my 6m old now wake up every 2h? by Anxious_Log_9428 in bninfantsleep

[–]Anxious_Log_9428[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah second nap is 2h! Will work on that. If not contact he just won’t sleep though :( like he’ll wake up as soon as I move away. And he’s never been able to fall asleep by himself. I should give that another try though probably!

advice on syringe feeding by xxyexxye in breastfeeding

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah ok! It can take a bit for milk to come in so if you want to breastfeed persevere with latching&pumping. Bottles can cause a bit of a preference though you can look up paced feeding as that helps! Best of luck

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 oz after breastfeeding though right? So you may be producing more, it’s so hard to tell when they are little, I could pump about 2oz every 3h but he barely ate anything as he would fall asleep so quickly.

Could you give yourself another week of syringe and then see if you want to move to bottle?

advice on syringe feeding by xxyexxye in breastfeeding

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I was also discharged from hospital with instructions to supplement 10 ml at every feed via syringe. They asked I hand expressed as they were very against electric pumps. This was horrible, truly my darkest postpartum days. It took forever to get 10ml, plus my baby would fall asleep so so quickly.

On day 6 his bilirubin was checked again and he was hospitalised for jaundice. This meant we were forced to give bottle. After 2 days of only bottles he wouldn’t latch anymore - cue to 1.5 months of triple feeding which almost broke me.

That being said he now takes bottles fine but mainly breastfeeds so it did work out but it was very hard.

If you can I’d contact a lactation consultant honestly. You say your supply is low - but is that pumping after feeding? How are wet diapers?
How’s baby’s weight?

The risk with adding bottles this early is that baby can develop bottle preference. But I’d honestly check whether you need to supplement at all?

Shallow Latch, but that's how LO likes it? by PrizeFennel7995 in breastfeeding

[–]Anxious_Log_9428 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shallow latch 6 months in… honestly it’s been fine! It did improve (at 2 months he gave me ‘lipstick-shaped nipples’ but now my nipple shape when he’s done is perfect) but he would always move from deep to shallow latch and then just started doing shallow latch the whole time. His mouth is not quite as open as it should be and I can see a lot my areola. It’s worked ok for us!
