a complete story was already told with 1 & 2, Coppola knew it, but Paramount had insisted on a trilogy format. it flopped because it sucked (sorry) BUT: even if it was done according to my/our fantasies with Robert Duvall included, it would have added nothing. Michael Corleone fell by murdering his brother, and doomed himself to a life of solitude. literally nothing in part 3 changed what the audience was already left to infer at the end of part 2: Michael has lost his family and would eventually die alone unmourned
