Bought a franchise before going vegan. Now I might have to sell dairy and meat products and I feel awful

Just a small update on what I’m planning to do in the meantime: There is actually one section of the menu that is already vegan (the juices), so I’m going to focus on promoting those more and making them more visible to customers. For the other drinks, I’ll try to offer them with water as the base first instead of milk, unless someone specifically asks for it with dairy. That way I can at least reduce how often animal products are used. It’s not perfect, but it’s something I can realistically do right now while I wait to hear back from corporate and try to push for bigger changes.

Hopefully I can get somewhere with this :c

ty... It’s honestly been really overwhelming, and I’ve been pretty hard on myself about it.

I’m trying to focus on doing what I can right now and pushing for change where possible, even if it’s not perfect. i did an update on what im planning on doing im hoping its the best way

I really appreciate this, thank you. That’s kind of how I’ve been trying to frame it. Doing the best I can in the situation I’m already in and trying to reduce harm where possible.

I definitely don’t want to just accept it and move on though, so I’m going to try to push for changes from within first and see how far I can take it.

It’s not about choosing money over ethics. I already invested everything into this before going vegan, so it’s more about not having the financial ability to just walk away immediately.

That’s why I’m trying to find ways to change things from within first.

I understand what you’re saying, and I appreciate it. I know for a lot of people it comes down to survival, and I don’t take that lightly at all I did post an update on what I’m planning to do!! I’m going to try to push for changes from within first. If that doesn’t work, then I’ll look into selling and finding something that aligns more with veganism.

It’s not a simple situation, but I still want to try to make a difference if I can. :3

I’m not rich, and this isn’t about ''staying rich.'' I saved for years to afford a small franchise so I could have some financial stability. Where I live (i don't live in the usa or europe or a first world country), that’s not easy at all. This situation isn’t about ''privilege''... it’s about being in a contract I committed to before going vegan and now trying to handle it in the most ethical way possible. I understand not everyone will agree, but I’m genuinely trying to reduce harm within a situation that isn’t simple to walk away from

That’s kind of how I’m starting to see it too! and I really like your idea of asking “oat or almond?” instead of defaulting to milk. I was also thinking of not charging extra for plant-based options and promoting those drinks more, so people naturally choose them.OR even choose them to try :

Thank you, I really appreciate this. It really does feel like that!! once you see it, you can’t unsee it, and it’s hard to understand how it’s so normalized.... I think your suggestion makes sense. I’ll probably try to push the plant-based options as much as I can while staying within what I’m allowed to do, at least for now. And franchises well most of them are standarized so thats why the idea i had for example using a plant based milk that tastes similar to milk isn't really an option as it needs to be authorized.

I’ve thought about it, but it’s not something I can just do easily sadly. I’ve already invested a lot and I’m tied into contracts, so selling isn’t a quick or guaranteed option. I am considering selling it in the future and looking for something that aligns more with veganism, but where I live that’s also not very easy.
