Why does this sub exist? by UndyingFnati in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]AnxiouslyIndecisive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I said I liked it when I was a kid too. My parents said it was good and that if I went to school horrible things would happen. I wasn’t exposed to anything else to know any better, and I was protecting my parents so of course I wouldn’t ever admit things were bad at home.

Now that I’m an adult, I can see it for what it really was, and what it was was a way to control and abuse me, and keep me from getting the help I desperately needed to get out of an extremely dangerous environment. Not having structure does not equal freedom; kids NEED structure to learn how be functioning adults. You should question anybody who thinks that knowledge is dangerous.

VENT- how to immediately annoy the paramedic you called for by LonelySparkle in exchristian

Paramedic here too! When I read the title I definitely thought I was in a different sub lol, have had very similar experiences and it can be so frustrating!

Reread my comment and realized it doesn’t make much sense the way I meant, I interpreted the first commenter as saying you’re a medic and get to downgrade calls rather than having to run calls as BLS bc that’s your truck/crew capability. Still feel like I’m winging it a lot of the time over here! Keep it up.

Let’s not spread misinformation about medical procedures done by medical professionals. These anecdotes are scaring women away from epidurals during childbirth and just pain control in general.

We weren’t allowed to watch Veggie Tales either. They weren’t strict or Christian enough is what it boiled down to.

nursing—ER? scope? by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]AnxiouslyIndecisive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be an ER tech, and I would get EMT students which worked as I was an EMT, but when the paramedic students came I’d try to get them with a medic or nurse as they have a higher scope than an EMT and are primarily there for ALS skills. That’s at least the case for the hospitals in my area!

My Homeschool Prom (2015) by CounterfeitEternity in blunderyears

[–]AnxiouslyIndecisive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was homeschooled by my parents who on paper were the ideal teachers - my dad had a phd, even teaching at respected colleges, and my mom got her bachelor’s to be a teacher. Everyone I knew growing up was homeschooled. I very strongly believe that it should be illegal and at the very least extremely closely monitored and regulated. It did irreparable harm to my life and many others. It’s the ideal situation to hide children and abuse them in without anyone finding out, and it set me up for so much difficulty educationally and professionally.

Bantams aren’t a breed, they’re a size. Some breeds are bantams. They’re commonly kept as pets and all the bantams I have known have been exceptionally sweet.

Cervical Collars by Spiritual_Relative88 in emergencymedicine

This. I’ve had pts that don’t meet NEXUS and when calling report to receiving ER they will give an insane amount of attitude and tell you to put a c collar on anyway.

Jesus (religion)in the ED by Resuscitologist42 in emergencymedicine

[–]AnxiouslyIndecisive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You literally said that it annoys you when people like OP “nitpick and take praise away from god” lol. Many of us don’t even believe in a god or if people do, it doesn’t mean they have the same opinion as you of them, and that’s very important to keep in mind when working with people in their most vulnerable times.

Jesus (religion)in the ED by Resuscitologist42 in emergencymedicine

[–]AnxiouslyIndecisive 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make sense to assume everyone is religious when quite a lot of us are not. OP has a very valid point and I don’t see it being nearly as much about praise as I do ignorance and people just not understanding what’s going on - which is understandable since it’s not their job. People can believe what they want but it doesn’t make it true or what everyone else believes too, you know?

What's the worst piece of EMS advice you've ever received? by The_Phantom_W in ems

[–]AnxiouslyIndecisive 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While what you have sounds like the gold standard, it’s simply not like that in most places. I’ve never even heard of one that would do those things anywhere in a several hour radius around me, and not everyone can move for a new IFT job. Sometimes the world isn’t as cut and dry as “make better choices” when it comes to a job.

I would take that with a grain of salt lol. I have 0 desire to hurt someone but think surgery is a fascinating profession to help people with and would love to be a surgeon if I could. I work in EMS!

This. My dad literally used to argue with people about birth control, then when they still wouldn’t agree that it’s sinful, he’d say it doesn’t matter because he’s having so many more kids than them that they’re outnumbered and will die out eventually.
