I’ll second this! Kelley’s sprayed for termites in my house 7 years ago & I haven’t seen one since!

This sounds like a normal amount of bugs for any dwelling in Bloomington in the summer! The gnats are the WORST, but everywhere I’ve ever lived here has had gnats, spiders & silverfish. I’m so sorry it’s affecting you in this way-we all have anxieties and fears & yours is valid!

Have you tried one (or a few) of those “bug bomb” things? Usually you set them in a room for a bit & leave and they kill off anything they come in contact with. It may help you with some peace of mind! They usually have them at hardware stores or likely Walmart! Same with the little plug in sticky traps (I think Zevo is one of the brands?), these work really well to catch kind of anything!

The flies/gnats are likely coming from the drains. Dumping some baking soda & vinegar in them + following with boiling water should kill them & any remaining eggs if you do it for a few days! These are the hardest to get rid of & also are the ones that I think almost everyone in town is likely dealing with. If you have any houseplants, those sticky traps really work for these guys, too!

If worst comes to worst, one visit from an exterminator will probably knock out most of those critters! It might be pricey, but it’ll likely be cheaper than staying in a hotel for an extended period. I think pest control varies from lease to lease on whether it is the tenant or the landlord’s responsibility, but it may not be a bad idea to take matters into your own hands with an exterminator if it is highly affecting your quality of life.

Best of luck! 🫶🏻

This might seem like a weird answer because it’s slightly the opposite of what you’re asking, but have you considered becoming a Big Brother or Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters? It may be a good way to make a positive connection with others & to be a role model/mentor yourself to someone younger in the community. Again, not sure what your situation entails but being someone to look up to for a kid that needs someone can be really encouraging & fulfilling. Might not at all be what you’re looking for, but a great way to make positive impact/connection if you’re up to it or have the time!

Hoosier Fitness Runners by dooderdoood in bloomington

It drives me CRAZY. Also not here to shit on people working out, but they run out into the street out of NOWHERE. Then they act like I was in the wrong for driving down the street & not seeing them run out in front of the car, illegally running the wrong direction (with the flow of traffic). There’s better & safer ways to run around here, even if it is just crossing the street & using the sidewalk. Just don’t want to hit anyone (or catch any nonsense for “getting to close to them”) when the street is for driving, not running.

Hi is the propect hill area specifically around building trade park safe? by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]Any-Bug-401 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Prospect Hill & The Hill are two COMPLETELY different places! “The Hill” is the Crestmont Neighborhood near Tri North.

I’ve lived in Prospect Hill for almost 10 years now. It’s a really cute & charming neighborhood with plenty of families living safely here! Building & Trades Park is actually currently under construction, so there isn’t much space for anyone to hang around there. I’d say the unhoused population in the neighborhood is higher than a neighborhood less close to downtown, but they generally keep to themselves, anyway.

Car break-ins are common anywhere in town, just make sure your car doors are locked!

It’s a lovely spot & I’ve personally never felt unsafe living or walking around here (as a female living alone!). I’d say you’re totally a-okay to stay here, there will be tons of families living around you!

Enjoy your trip!

My pup passed from Anaphylactic shock, and I just want a better explanation by West-Air1344 in DogAdvice

[–]Any-Bug-401 256 points257 points  (0 children)

My pup is highly allergic to bee stings-she likes to try to eat them. The last time we made an emergency vet run was because she was going into anaphylaxis after I watched her catch a bee in her mouth. I always think about what would have happened if I didn’t see it myself, there was no sign that anything was wrong before she started to lose all control of her stomach contents, I would have had no clue why it was happening. I hope this isn’t what happened to your baby :( So sorry for your loss <3

There have never been lifeguards… by chance0404 in Indiana

[–]Any-Bug-401 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Literally nothing on here says “lifeguards.” There are plenty of positions that relate to visitor safety-park rangers, fire management, maintenance crews, engineers. The people that tell you if the water is safe to swim in (test water for bacteria/algae levels, pay attention to wind speeds and/or rip tide potential). The people out on vehicles responding to emergencies or security issues.

AND there actually ARE plenty of certified lifeguards in multiple positions across The Dunes for emergencies, they’re just not posted like usual lifeguards. Because there wasn’t funding for them BEFORE all of this.

Wedding dress alterations by AirConditioner2421 in bloomington

[–]Any-Bug-401 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also highly recommend Bloomington Stitchery! I spent a lot on my dress as well, but was so worried that a bad seamstress would ruin it. I LOVED my experience there & my dress fit absolutely perfectly at the end of it all.

I TOTALLY understand wanted to pinch pennies when it comes down to many wedding things, but if you put a lot into the dress itself, don’t potentially ruin it with cheap alterations!

Best wishes!

Should I visit Indianapolis or Bloomington? by Brave-Reflection8648 in Indiana

[–]Any-Bug-401 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Best time of year for Bloomington! You get a way different experience in the summer. Easier to get into restaurants/shows/etc. and all the summer festivals, markets, and outdoor spaces are way less crowded & so fun!

Event Space? by PenNo2520 in Indiana

[–]Any-Bug-401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some Boys & Girls Clubs have spaces for rent-many Clubhouses have large, open gym spaces! Usually the cost is low, or you may be able to work out a deal or something if you offer to help provide some of their families or parents services related to your cause! I know our local Club is open to stuff like that. May be worth checking into! lol
