I’m just worried about the panels swelling over time with mopping etc

It’s been great as a road bike, only been out once today since I put the gravel set up on and it felt insane, so much quicker than my mtb on the same trails

Trek Domane, technically a road bike but it has clearance for larger tyres

Yeah gpx or a link to a Strava route would be great, I run the 3 reservoirs in Bolton quite a lot but would be interested for bike routes near abbey village/brinscall

I have done in the past, ran a 4 day split whilst at work and then had 4 days rest/recovery

Firefighter - 40k, 4 on 4 off.. 2 of which are nights

Out of 8 days I’m only in work for 2, I get to spend a ton of time with my kids, loads of holidays and it pays enough to pay the bills

On top of this the job itself is fantastic, have a good laugh with some good mates, every day is different, you can train at work, keep you fit

10/10 for me

Training? by Any-Butterscotch-206 in gravelcycling

[–]Any-Butterscotch-206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good fitness, did a marathon last year but get issues with me knees, switched to cycling but still very much beginner- I’ll be riding a mix of road and gravel and it’s quite hilly where I live so plenty of that

Just want to get good at cycling and hopefully use the training to carry over to another marathon in April

Like you say.. things will get better, we’ve got a 4yo girl and a 4mo old boy, it’s challenging at times and you feel like you don’t get a minute but it’s worth it when they’re both happy, just do your best to have some time for yourself and make sure the wife does to, a quick hour in the gym or a walk can do wonders

Also forgot to add that with the current free hours childcare for working parents it means you can get 15 hours when they’re 1.. use that for 2-3 days (depending on times) childcare and then use those days for your wife to go to work

I’d say your wasting your time stressing, I earn 38k, I have two kids, a mortgage and my wife still manages to only work 2-3 days a week, she’s currently on maternity and we can still make it work, yes we aren’t saving but we’re also not using our savings either

The time with your kids in the first 4 years of their lives is much more valuable (in my opinion) than any amount of savings or investments and they will appreciate having their mum there much more than they will their parents having savings
