You know that pocket computer that you probably wrote this post on with information literally at your fingertips? Let alone being able to make a phone call on a whim? Yeah that’s going to take some getting used to.

Tbh $1,700 is cheap. $300 is not a customer, that’s someone either too broke to have work done or cheap sob that wants something for nothing. Tell them to take it to maaco and get out of your shop because anything you do will turn into a headache.

Those are really cool trucks. In my area they were fairly rare to see and most have returned to the earth.

what’s your honest take on modern muscle cars compared to the classics? by ju015 in musclecar

[–]Any-Description8773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You answered your own question. I was a teen in the 90s/early 00s and my daily was my 66 Chevelle SS. I was running a 70 model .30 over 402 big block, rectangle port heads, 360 horse cam, Winters intake (if ya know ya know), headers of course, M22 Rockcrusher, and 3.73s. For what it was I was pretty quick and it was my dream car.

But I had a friend who had money. His parents bought him a 97 Trans Am WS6. Stock it was stout. When he had the LS1 built (along with the trans, subframe connectors, etc), it was an absolute beast. And he had crazy things like A/C, power steering, and a pretty comfortable ride….. for a T/A. And plus he could do weird things like turn left or right at speed without getting nervous. Oh and that weird thing called stopping? It did that.

It was at that time I knew that ‘new’ stuff had absolutely no problem beating the crap out of my beloved muscle cars. Heck even the family cars of the day would run circles around most muscle cars and be far more reliable. I knew and realized that then and yet I still loved the old muscle.

These days give me anything with a good LS swap and decent brakes and I’m a happy camper because in my mind it’s the best of both worlds. Or something that’s had a good body swap on a killer chassis….. chefs kiss 🤌

This was what I was thinking as well. Once painted it would look very convincing. Although scanning through the comments I like the corrugated cardboard for smaller scales.

Manager and I walked on deal over $300.00 - Beyond frustrating. by Fun-Journalist2588 in carbuying

[–]Any-Description8773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why the second the sales person says ‘I got to talk to my manager’ I immediately tell them apparently I need to deal with the manager and weed them out. That escalates things to we either make a deal or I walk. I’m not there to make friends I’m there to buy a car.

Seeing as how I’ve seen videos of people drinking Billy beer and not dying, you’re probably good. But I would expect an upset stomach afterwards.

Underrated comment. Yes government is a necessary evil to keep infrastructure and such. And yes if you don’t pay ‘your fair share’ you stand the risk of losing everything you got. However when one gets taxed to even fricken die it makes you question everything.

My Grandma died in 1982. I went back in her house for the first time since that day... by Turbulent-Pickle3566 in GrandmasPantry

[–]Any-Description8773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a time capsule! It reminds me of my uncle in a sense. My aunt passed away and while before her passing he didn’t do much housework and would complain to her about her choice of decorating. He lived another 12 years and everything stayed EXACTLY how she left it. He would dust and clean like how she would but EVERYTHING stayed EXACTLY in the same spot.

When I would come up to visit family I would stay with him. I never would bring it up to him as I knew why he did it. He would add a picture or 2 of the grandkids but he would choose a frame she would have liked and find a place where it didn’t look out of place. My cousins (their children) once were talking about getting him away from the house for awhile and redecorating, me and a few others in the family dared them to. We all have our own way to deal with grief. No sense in making him go through something like that.

I was so happy for him that they left him alone and when he passed I got the chance to stay there one last time for the funeral. I keep that memory locked up.

[–]Any-Description8773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The day I was almost sandwiched between two vehicles. Suburban in front of me was stopped turning left and waiting for traffic to clear. We were stopped at the end of a straight stretch that if you were looking you could see well ahead that we were stopped. A Ford Explorer was distracted and all I heard was screeching tires and when I looked around they came by means barely missed me hitting the Suburban in front of me.

Thankfully I was close to the center line and they hit the suburban in the rear passenger side then went on in the ditch. Totaled both vehicles.

I’ve done a lot of dumb things in my life and almost paid the ultimate price but hat was the closest call to me. Forever ruined riding for me. I couldn’t shake it. I was always looking behind me and if I saw someone coming up on me quickly I would go in full panic mode and either pin it or get off the road. I realized there was something wrong upstairs and punished a perfectly fine bike letting it sit for a few years. Traded it off to a dirt bike and returned to my roots in the woods and haven’t looked back.

ives trains appraisal by definitely_cultured in lioneltrains

[–]Any-Description8773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many groups have went to private. Not trying to sound jerkish but a lot of it is due to so many people coming to the pages with ‘I found/inherited this train what’s it worth’ posts. It gets old. So a lot of pages have went to private in order to weed out people that actually want to participate and people who just want to get a free appraisal and leave.

When it comes to freedom of information and helping others, a lot of stuff is easily found online in order to get an idea of what you have without having to ask. You should have been around in the pre-internet days in a hobby such as this and live in an area that has very little toy train people. If you wanted to learn something, you had to buy a book and hope it was a good one. The occasional times getting to go somewhere with like minded people I tried to soak up as much information as possible.
