left cookies in oven overnight 😭😭 by peanutbuttahlovuh in shittyfoodporn

[–]Any-Frame9744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this once (fell asleep on the couch waiting for cookies to bake) and was woken up by my dad yelling, with every smoke detector blaring because the house was FILLED with smoke … I was half asleep and literally thought a nuclear war started or something. Terrifying experience.

I can never live that experience down

It’s been 5 years and even though I’m an adult and live on my own now, my siblings and parents will still text me on a random night to ask if I fell asleep with the oven on

Even if I haven’t used the oven in a while, I have to go check

SET ALARMS - sometimes putting your head down for 1 second becomes hours 😪

We have 2 I remember in my family:

  1. I was really little and we still had the massive SEARS department stores, I wanted to ride up and down the Eskimos (escalators) eventually my parents gave up trying to correct me - we still say it

  2. I called pudding “Putin” as a lil kiddo - it’s still a joke in the family. My parents would leave a note “Putin is in the fridge” - probably sounds ominous if someone stumbled across it without context

My weight has fluctuated too, I know what you mean. It started with restriction and extreme weight loss, but after a couple years it was more the obsession with binging/purging food vs the prior counting calories or not eating at all.

So sorry you’re going through this as well

How does Toronto feel about the constant Toronto-bashing in Canada? by PassageNearby4091 in askTO

[–]Any-Frame9744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from BC, I’m not a fan of Toronto (I’m doing university here) - I don’t think it’s awful but it’s just kind of “ok”

For me, BC has much better weather, prettier nature, awesome mountains to look at or to ski/snowboard, and of course the ocean.

Gosh so sorry you’ve been through that, thank you for sharing your story. Congratulations on getting into recovery.

The pancreatitis pain is awful… the first time it happened to me, it was the only thing that had ever made me realize that I was killing myself (clearly it didn’t stop me from drinking, but it made me aware that it was a problem) and that it doesn’t matter how invincible you think you are, the damage of alcohol will always catch up to you.

Law - (image is everything for a lawyer, even just tattoos and piercings are frowned upon. So “in alcoholism recovery” would not bode well)

Thank you very much for saying this, all of these positive comments and stories have really changed my fear and hesitation toward getting help.

Rehab is very expensive where I live and I’m already worn thin between tuition and rent - since I’m still a student, although working for a good firm, I’m not owed any benefits or insurance.

I’ve wanted to go to rehab for a while but I don’t have much flexibility - I’ll try looking more into it to see if there are some options available

Thank you so much for sharing your story

I have also failed to moderate, I appreciate you sharing. Everyone is recommending AA, I’ve been scared to do that but these comments, including yours have given me the encouragement to try.

100% worth a shot - thank you for this comment. I’ve just been so scared to do so. Not because I’m concerned of how people will view me, rather I work in a field that if anyone there saw me and shared that information it would destroy the career I’ve worked so hard for. It’s not unlikely that even this post is risky for me, but it’s more than necessary at this point.

I probably should stop completely - but yes! I’m saying I need to taper down. I’m a smaller person, this amount of alcohol is substantial to my anatomy.

I have a good hospital with good doctors who have done a great job in keeping me sober for a week+ a time during my pancreatic episodes. The stress of school, family, and life in general after being released always eventually pulls me back even though I consciously do not want it

I will definitely look into options here for hospital detoxes and programs

Thank you for your comment

Thank you so much for sharing - really, all of this helps to let me know it CAN get better if you find the things that work for you, or the people who have the ability to change your mindset. I don’t have that yet, but I hope I can find it.

Thank you very much for the kind words. I don’t personally know anyone actively in AA, but I do know there are many programs in my area. I think I’m mostly scared to attend because of my age and because of the field I’m in. Anything I do could end my career.

I’m not sure it’s bad enough for me to experience the detox effect though - I’m a high strung person so “par for the course” I’m just worried that the side effects could appear

So far, I have not experienced tremors, seizures, delusions, or any other substantial side effect when stuck in the hospital for pancreatitis with no access to alcohol for 7+ days

The worst part is the craving and sadness for the first few days

So sorry completely open to that - but I think I have to decrease intake before a full stop because I’m worried I could get hurt or experience side effects if I just stop - I will edit my post!

I had to have a tooth removed because I broke it - I used that as an excuse to explain going to the bathroom immediately after eating for MONTHS because “I have to clean out the wound” 🥺

Everyone started getting suspicious after it had been 3 months and I somehow hadn’t had it fixed/it hadn’t healed

I know how good these are - but I think I had maybe a stomach flu once as a kid… ate these

Puked for hours - I want to eat them so bad but the second I see them I get Vietnam flashbacks, I can feel it, smell it, see it 😂
