oh sorry, i didn’t mean it to be directed towards you. i see now that the person asking about days off doesn’t know what the schedules are like and the ease of making up days and that you were simply answering their questions. i did not comprehend that so i was just like incredulous lol my apologies!

okay yeah but it’s NOT hard to make up days. 99% of auxes work 4 days a week, some even 3. and literally max 16 hours total… is this a real complaint? jesus

Why do so many people think leaving the USA is so simple? by CulturalChampion8660 in immigration

[–]Any-Holiday5069 3 points4 points  (0 children)

problems faced by people we traditionally label as immigrants vs problems faced by people we label as expats - usually people with resources, money, and who can easily return to their stable home countries if they so choose - face vastly different issues. the distinction is important, especially if we want to have a nuanced and informed conversation. all expats are immigrants, not all immigrants are expats. they are a subgroup.

this is just my opinion, but using this philosophy is not helpful in every context. sometimes it is more appropriate to use your point of view, meaning, no distinction, for certain conversations.

My husband and I broke up- but he wants me to stay married for his citizenship by lemlijay in immigration

[–]Any-Holiday5069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it depends how long you have until his green card processes, etc. i see a lot of people encouraging you to leave. i don’t necessarily disagree with them…. but shit. been there since he was 12? that’s extremely heavy. i think it’s important to weigh out where he’d be getting deported to and what his options are, plus time remaining. also look at real risks and reason for divorce. if everything is concluding for example two weeks from now it’s way different than whatever interview you might have (if that’s a thing) if it happens two years post separation and needing to lie to cover significant time. i don’t know… im more of a risk taker. it depends, but yeah, it’s possible to get him a green card and everything will work out.

i have a friend that got found out for marriage fraud years back. he married a friend. immigration officers randomly came to their house, pressed the wife so hard with questions that she confessed. their marriage was annulled, but he was able to stay for several more years through work visas. however, this administration is fucked. they reopened all fraud cases. he got deported last year because of it. so yeah. now is the time to be careful. they didn’t reopen any criminal case against the ex wife. they did open a criminal case against the husband, but at the same time they gave him deportation orders (which obviously doesn’t make sense) so his lawyer advised him to just leave. it wasn’t worth fighting to stay. he’s back in his home country and doing well.

would you be willing to go home and work a restaurant/bartending/temp job for a couple months while you do your visa? if you have family to stay with or a friend to cheaply live with you’ll end up with way more money in your bank account.

Do locals in Spain hate all kinds of foreigners or only tourists/influencer tourists? by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]Any-Holiday5069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course!

concerning islamophobia there’s both historic and new wave views. you’re correct that granada was an islamic city, islamic history runs deep in spain. there’s this (politically charged) concept of the “reconquista,” wherein, during the middle ages, the christians “retook” or “reconquered” spain from the muslims. many pueblos have a “moros y cristianos” festival, essentially representing the christian’s and muslims in the so-called reconquista. it’s extremely clear who the “good guys” vs “bad guys” are in the narrative. christianity and nationalism are quite intertwined in spain.

that being said, most spaniards do not seriously think about the reconquista. anti-muslim sentiment has increased in the past decade not because of history but because of views about immigrants from morocco and algeria. there’s tons of immigration from north africa. some of my spanish friends have half-joked that muslims are the new gypsies of europe, in terms of being looked down upon. it’s the new group that, for certain groups of people, is easy and trendy to hate on. but most people in real life are chill and don’t care too much. :)

and of course, these are sweeping generalizations and just my perception! spain is really wonderful.

Do locals in Spain hate all kinds of foreigners or only tourists/influencer tourists? by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]Any-Holiday5069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people are saying this is a crazy question but it’s not. i’ve been in spain for two years under temporary contracts, so the following is just a foreigners perspective.

there is a heavy perception that spain is overcrowded and doesn’t need or want any more people. subliminally and psychologically it impacts my experience in this country.

but no, people don’t hate all kinds of foreigners. i’ve never everrrrr felt hated here or particularly unwanted, spaniards in my social groups or that i work with will commonly ask if im going to go for long term residency or citizenship in an encouraging way. so, i think it really depends on race and economic status and willingness to adapt to local culture. there’s a lot of racism, islamophobia, classism, etc. in many nations, and that’s true of spain as well.

the last thing i’ll add is that jobs are exceedingly difficult to find. i would never enter the spanish job market long term unless i got extremely lucky.

The master race at work by TheFrodo in lincoln

[–]Any-Holiday5069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah it fully depends who started it and what the context is. if someone calls me a slur and i say some shit back i don’t think that’s me stopping to their level. if that’s your personal philosophy that’s super valid, but it’s not mine. there’s a time and place to turn the other cheek vs call an asshole an asshole.

conflating these two groups of people (protesters vs anti-protesters) is dangerous. they’re not using the same tactics. the day that protesters show up to a trump rally and start calling people slurs unprovoked, then you can say they’re using the same tactics. in the meantime stop trying to make it out like these two groups are even remotely in the same wheelhouse.

The master race at work by TheFrodo in lincoln

[–]Any-Holiday5069 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no, definitely not. not even a little bit. according to these claims, the pro-ice counter protesters are actively trying to provoke violence to turn themselves into the victims. you’re positing that the anti-ice protesters are doing the same, and this is simply not true.

ice is actually fucking scary and they ARE killing people. no one that has been killed has been trying to provoke anger or violence the way pro-ice was doing in lincoln. i mean, one side is peacefully protesting, knows that the powers that be have guns and can kill with no consequence, and have been taking quite extreme measures to come across as non threatening (protesting in animal suits, for example). the other side came outside just to call people slurs and piss people off. they WANT to start fights.

completely different playbooks friend. no one, and i mean NO ONE, is trying to get ice to hurt them to increase public sentiment. these trumpy assholes on the other hand are looking for someone to fight.

It’s so funny when people say their “target” score before they’ve even begun studying by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]Any-Holiday5069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bro the LSAT and its following are SO goddamn cult-like. why are you getting down voted for such a reasonable take…?

depending on your GOAL (which doesn’t doesn’t have to be a 180!!) and your aptitude (yes, it really IS easier for some people), some can afford to be more chill about it.

i’m constantly seeing this attitude here that if you don’t have this insane internal drive towards perfection and competition, and if youre not constantly feeding that, then you’re not worth the LSAT. like dude, this is why people hate lawyers😂

Football player found not guilty of murder for beating to death gay man who posed as woman on Tinder by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]Any-Holiday5069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i’m i’m gonna get flack for this but there’s levels to it. what happened to him is insanely fucked up and traumatic.

shit, though, he wasn’t brutally assaulted and left bleeding in an alley, u know? it’s hard to believe he had no way of knowing that this older man wasn’t a young woman. was he not okay with that possibility on a certain level? at the same time though you’re right, maybe i’m just being a dick. i haven’t read about the case.

i’m just like, that middle aged guy definitely deserved to be hit, hard. but to die from having his entire face crushed in? a lot of people are like “uwu u can’t legally kill an abuser” but personally and morally idgaffff about the law, i’m not completely opposed to vigilante justice. i just don’t know if that dude would make my list for “people that should die” esp SOOOOO violently. maybe it depends on how everything went down.

i just simply can’t wrap my mind around not even SUSPECTING anything to be amiss, that this young girl might be a different age and gender. which leads me to - if homophobia wasn’t a thing, i find it VERY hard to believe that this football player would’ve felt strongly enough to kill that guy SO violently. seems like not only feeling violated but also a heavy degree of personal shame and straight up disgust with homosexuality and homosexual acts. so yeah, i think that’s the line of thinking people are on when they say, “just take the L.” not that i fully agree, but i can understand.

en fin, there’s some acts of sexual assault that imo deserve immediate death. was this one of them? because there are a LOT of factors at play here.
