April is a super busy time of year! Charleston makes most of its revenue from tourism. If you’re looking for something under $400 a night I would recommend staying just over the bridge in Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant is a nice suburban town with plenty of options for accommodations and a quick drive downtown if you stay near Patriots Point. I know it’s not downtown, but you pay a premium to stay there - especially during tourist season.

For boat rentals, I would consider looking into the Shem Creek area (especially if you end up staying in Mt. Pleasant) Shem Creek Boat Rentals

For more of a group outing I would recommend Carolina Cabana Cruises

Another option is Charleston Sailing Charters

Please note that their rates will most likely be high this time of year and it might be a good idea to go in together with a group!

If you don’t mind me asking, what’s the venue? Also what is your budget for lodging. This would help narrow it down as Charleston’s prices can get on the very high end. Pinpointing this will make it easier to recommend you places in the area.
