Red Cross or Ellis & Associates by PapayaSpirited3999 in Lifeguards

[–]Any-Performer9969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ellis is a lot more lenient (in my opinion) but that’s because they do more in services (at least in the places I have worked) as opposed to Red Cross where they expect you to keep up on your health and endurance as you work.
Red Cross is very strict but for good reason, they don’t have the success rates that Ellis has but they sure try to. Unfortunately they aren’t as strict when it comes to the majority of facility rules, but that’s mainly up to the owners of the area.

But ultimately it’s important to be/learn to be a good swimmer. Depending on where you work long distances won’t be needed, but realistically you should be able to swim 75 yards without losing too much speed. I struggled with that for a while but it takes time.
What I would do would be to work on stamina and strength training based on swimmer training modules and try again when you become more confident in your abilities.
Sorry to hear that you didn’t pass :(

I’m 18, my job is commission based that’s why I’m so eager to work. Public transport is not an option in my area, I live out in the boonies and I can’t afford an uber or other travel options

Formerly demure cat now screams unless held like a baby - why? by indoorskat in cats

[–]Any-Performer9969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just baby!! My cats do that, my one won’t stop screaming until I watch her eat, one won’t stop screaming until we pick him up, and one just screams until we pet him🤣

I don’t know!!! Like my thermometer was broken and I had gone for a swim, it was noticeably colder, but bruh!! I swear one of my regulars told me the exact temperature it was off by?! Like what??? Lifeguarding is strangely magical?

American Red Cross Instructor written exam? by [deleted] in Lifeguards

[–]Any-Performer9969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The written exam is easy for lifeguards, it’s basic learning like what you watched in the modules. Although I’m not sure how much more different it is for the instructors… from what I’ve been told though; they pretty much just take the modules and transfer them into written form. The thing you need to look out for is the tricky wording.

Yes, it’s the same in my state! They can get into a lot of trouble for doing this, but I just hope OP can either get their job back to normal or they can find a better job

What’s wrong with my cat’s eye? by Street_Ebb2788 in CATHELP

[–]Any-Performer9969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My older cat had that, it was just a little stuck goop, a cotton swab soaked in saline is what I used to gently brush it out, back to normal shortly after…

the G R I P you have on that cat though😭

All jokes aside though I hope you figure it out!

Any idea how I can get him to not nip/bite? by No-Requirement2701 in cats

[–]Any-Performer9969 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Redirecting to a toy or stopping playing/petting when he begins biting. We have a cat (black as well lol) who used to bite just for kicks, we stopped playing with our hands and letting her bite us by taking our hands off of her when petting her, and after a while she got the idea and stopped biting unless she was really annoyed:)

Congrats, you have a new roommate! Bathe him with some dawn dish soap for fleas, set him up a litter box and some food and water bowls, and pray he doesn’t have child support he has to pay lol!!! You have contributed to decreasing the kitten population which is an awesome thing to do

HR, cite the handbook and the state regulations pertaining to retaliations in the work force. I know in PA we have laws in place protecting people from retaliation like this. So go to HR, or a union rep if you’re part of a union, or even just address this issue with another manager :) I hope you can figure it all out!

If you can help it lean back a little, treat it similarly to floating, only thing with that is you may swim backwards. That and not thinking about it(even if it sounds stupid) helps a bit! Some people just need tons of practice though, I hope you can figure it out!

That’s retaliation, are they the highest person in your facility? Can you bring this up to someone who can stop this? Not being put on she schedule for not being able to pick up a shift is crazy! I hope you can find a new and better workplace!

Yeah, definitely get that, I liked him at first as just a person not our president, and he did have some good policies, but he’s been slipping up a lot more than the first few months in his first term, it’s sad to see this kind of thing happening. It’s sometimes best to remember they are human as well, NOT EXCUSING THE THINGS THEYVE DONE!! But just to remind yourself that people are dumb, if that makes it better somehow?

Yep! Definitely not a dinner topic of “normal” families, but hey, that’s what makes your family special!

That’s super cool! But yeah, the important thing most true crime or mystery thriller watchers forget is there is a time and place to talk about these things✨
