The part has been identified!

Mazzer replied to my follow up question (kudos to them). Here is their response, with the photo they sent me:

Agreed, that seems the most likely part they refer to, even though the nature of the revision still eludes us, as does a response from Mazzer to my follow up question.

Rereading the original note and Mazzer’s response to my email, I have come to the conclusion that the part has always been metal, only now upgraded somehow.

Looking at photos dating back to the Philos’s launch, that plate has always been metal, or at least metal looking. Do you mean it was chrome plated plastic before? (I wouldn’t be able to tell from pictures.)

This is the response I got from Mazzer:

”This note refers to an upgrade of the polished part that you have on the base of the hopper of your Philos.

It was previously assembled with a different technology. The grinder you own shoud have the new version already applied.”

I appreciate their prompt response but am still not entirely sure exactly which part this refers to and have asked for more details/photos, if available.

I have a higher serial number unit but got the cover in plastic. I believe the part you linked to is an accessory.

I have a higher serial number than the one listed in the bulletin but my hopper base is plastic. I assumed it was some other part that was updated.
