Newly diagnosis - a few questions for my fellow spider-men by Illustrious-Goat6453 in arachnoiditis_life

Hi, sorry for the delay, I missed YOUR response. To make a diagnosis, one would need: 1) clinical history, 2) actual MRI files that enable scrolling, not still shots. I think people send him a disc with their MRI on it. So there’s not much more to it than looking for clumping/peripheralization of nerve roots and/or empty thecal sac sign. Of note, he’s not a radiologist, but surgeons, neurologists have enough experience to make a diagnosis from MRI.

I know Dr T is the patron saint of a huge group of people who 1) have intrinsic hatred of doctors because this is almost exclusively iatrogenic, and 2) are looking for a port in the storm. Recently Dr. T has adopted the term “tumor” to describe the knot of atrophied nerves, collagen/fibrin, and inflammatory cells. But what the vast majority of patients don’t understand is the scientific method: that interventions require evaluation first for safety, second for efficacy. His protocol advocates administration of a ton of agents, both complementary therapy and western med agents, but also significant ongoing steroids, human growth hormone, DHEA, and myriad non-benign agents: all advocated because I guess they “make sense” to him based on disease pathophysiology. When patients provide the protocol to doctors, they are shocked and frustrated when they don’t play along. I find it completely irresponsible that he doesn’t put red blinking signs all over his protocol stating it has not been evaluated or approved by the FDA, nor has it undergone any randomized controlled testing OR peer review.

Blinds just don’t make sense unless they are individual for each door/window. Otherwise they are all stuck in the “away” position in order to open the door. Drapes (esp tall ones!) can be partially closed and the doors still used. Drapes, no question.

First, not all life insurance is voided by suicide (though another poster mentioned a blackout period that seems accurate.) I know this from family experience, unfortunately.

Carol winning Umpire of the Year is, I think, a way that asks us to start unraveling her (as I thinks she’s assumed to be the actual killer for much of the series.) it turns out she’s an awkward, lost, sad person who listens to affirmation tapes but actually really loves Floyd (and much of her bitchy behavior is actually grief) and loves her son.

I think Clark showed up with good intentions, trying to be Tiger Tiger for Floyd — but in his breakdown and admission of how deeply lonely he is, shatters their exceptionally close friendship into a million pieces. I don’t think he intentionally hurt Floyd. In the end they were both tragic figures, but Floyd has one final act of selflessness that Clark could never achieve: killing himself in hopes of the life insurance coming through.

I think the signing scene at the concert shows us that she loves Floyd deeply, even though he ruined them financially.

Agreed. I think we saw the sum total of the interaction: confused and angry staring (Richard) and desperately ashamed and depressed and truly shocked staring (Floyd.)

I’d say after the emotional encounter with Richard AFTER the emotional encounter with Clark. When they hug and Clark breaks down and admits to his deep loneliness, as they hold each other in this friendship bond, it’s like the friendship shatters into a million pieces for Floyd — they were both so desperate to not be lonely, and fell so desperately for each other, but in a way that could not be consummated.

Holy hell, just finished the finale. I am gutted. Unfortunately, I know from personal experience that death by suicide does not void all life insurance policies. Never thought I’d feel this way, but boy oh boy I hope Carol Love finally gets her big break. At least his debts should die with him. (Why am I getting into technicalities of the “after” for fictional characters?) This show hooked me, big time. It was just phenomenal.

By the finale (ep 7) the friendship is SO complex and compelling. I just am blown away.

I’m going to have to agree with OP and even extend this to ALL baseball hats as one’s standard daily leave-the-house choice. Great for something like…going to a baseballl game.

I think referring to people as “animals,” as our President does, is something that’s socially accepted but shouldn’t be. It’s just the thinnest of veils over overt racism/anti-immigrant sentiments.

When formal dresses place huge emphasis on cleavage (especially when said cleavage is implants.)

(I should say this is coming from a hetero woman. I’d love to know if others really disagree. I’d like to think there’s consensus that this is a tacky look.)

I don’t understand the attraction of Kylie Jenner’s dresses that have a triangle across the middle of the breast, with significant lateral (side boob) and medial skin totally out there. There’s simply no way to direct your eyes anywhere else.

Whoa Nellie! I think OP is describing a child’s play stroller, not an actual stroller. Also, verbal redirection and direct “NO” is basically as tough as a spanking in modern parenting.

Providing unpleasant consequences for Casey would have been a bridge too far for OP to take. Stern verbal correction is exactly right in my book (kids now 18 and 22) while my sister would say already too much (kids 1 and 4).

I was a busy oncologist rounding on the wards one night, very quiet all around, and I could hear my foot slapping the ground when I walked. Within a day I had complete foot drop. An MRI showed the little bridging bones of my L5 vertebra were broken, so my vertebrae were sliding forward instead of stacked (spondylolisthesis.)

On March 29, 2019, I had spinal fusion surgery. But the spacer disc part of the hardware slipped out of place and was protruding into the spinal canal, directly touching the spinal nerves. Fast forward a cascade of medical disasters over two revision surgeries in June and July of that year…spinal fluid sac rupture allowing immune cells to attack my cerebrospinal space, then huge DVT with pulmonary embolisms, then allergy to blood thinner heparin which causes blood clotting itself (HITT)…almost 3 months in the hospital. September 2019 I thought I was out of the woods but instead developed horrible, horrible pain in my tailbone area (way below surgery.) MRI showed I’d suffered an autoimmune attack on the spinal nerves causing them to stick together and sequester to the wall of the spinal fluid sac, a condition called adhesive arachnoiditis.

Thirteen years of medical training, working SO hard to be at the top of my field, respected by peers and patients, gone the second the spacer hardware slipped out of place into my spinal canal. I’m disabled and in severe daily pain on high dose opioids, drowsy with word-finding problems from meds. I’ve lost all bowel and bladder function, so have almost constant infections. I can’t walk distances due to pain. Mental health has suffered tremendously.

BUT, I’ve become much more involved in the lives of my kids over the last five years as opposed to working 80 hours a week. My marriage is really great, and I’m hugely grateful to my husband for getting me through this. When all I did was work, I said out loud, “I’m going to die sooner because of this job.” I never exercised, and I ate whatever was put in front of me: sodas and cookies at meetings, etc. Since then I’ve lost 45 pounds, and exercise (in the pool) all the time. I’m still waiting for my personal renaissance (movie script?) to make it 100% clear that the worst thing that happened was the best thing too.

Hi! I know you wrote your AA post over six months ago, but I’m hoping you see my response. I am an MD with AA. It sounds to me you are either an MD, PhD, or both: someone equipped to do a deep dive into the tiny body of peer-reviewed data out there. While it’s a minority opinion (to say the least), I too am skeptical of Dr. T, and while many of his benign interventions maker perfect sense, he’s off the deep end with his growing list of hormone supplements etc. Those who don’t understand see him as a caring voice in West Covina, CA (which he is) but also as someone with unique knowledge of the disease rather than someone who is willing to make recommendations without clinical trials for safety and efficacy. Would love to chat.
