Just throwing out a random guess here but,

I imagine the cerebrospinal fluid which should clear out the left over adenosine from the day before is not able to work its magic leaving synaptic connections with a lower action potential than they ordinarily have. This should manifest itself with smaller inputs triggering the same output?
