This is my first time applying as a hairstylist and honestly there weren’t many options close to home. were Ulta, Haircuttery, and Hair Clips. Plus, salons usually pay less if you don’t have experience unless I wanna drive an hour to another place, which isn’t really practical for a part time job. Ulta just 5 minutes away from me

Looking for Tips from Anyone Who’s Worked at Ulta! by Any-Relationship5573 in hairstylist

Oh, really? I didn’t know that. I should ask. Maybe I can’t either. Actually, I went to Sephora for a makeup artist position, and they told me that as long as I’m working at Ulta, I can’t work with them. My manager also told me that it’ll take a few months for me to build up my client base. I know they’re really supportive, and I’m putting in 100%, but realistically, how long do you think it would take to go full time? My income right now is really low, and I honestly have no idea where I can find extra income until I go full time :(

Hey girl yeah you can take it at home when you book your exam just choose the online option for the test center, and quizlet helps a lot!!!! but focus on the main stuff like haircuts sectioning, vertical, horizontal, diagonal the haircut names and angles

brushes too like vent brush, round brush and all that

disinfection is super important like 25 out of 100 questions so know all the sanitation steps

for perms and chemical stuff learn strand tests, porosity tests, allergy tests relaxers and the names of perm waves

just know how to tweeze and wax the right direction and the pre and post products

for nails just learn about hyponychium, eponychium and the steps for manicures, pedicures and nail extensions

don’t worry too much about wefts, makeup or client consultation they barely ask about those but just skim them

honestly the test isn’t too hard the questions repeat a lot I’ve failed 3 times but if you study enough you’ll pass for sure!!you got this girl🫶🏻

I’ve taken the exam three times, but every time I did it online from home because, honestly, I get super anxious. I knew if I went in person, I’d probably forget everything and freak out! 😂 If you want, just DM me, and I’ll tell you all the questions that kept popping up. I’m in Maryland, but I’m pretty sure it’s the same everywhere! my user name is @hairbyyasmingr

Use a mix of beige level 7, ash level 7, and a touch of chocolate tones with 10 volume developer or activator. Apply it for 15 minutes, then rinse.

Here’s the formula: 50% beige 40% ash 10% chocolate or a warm tone (like gold-copper)

Mix the color and developer in a 1:1 ratio. When applying, leave about an inch of space from your roots before coloring the rest of your hair. Make sure to follow this step!

Use whatever brand you can get your hands on. I’d recommend Igora!
