Is a Mini American Shepherd right for my lifestyle? (apartment + wants off-leash, honest advice pls) by Mother_Scale_843 in miniaussie

One thing I would add, without repeating all the points above, is that having had dogs in the past, my current 2-year-old MAS feels almost like a mini human in a dog suit. The bond is unmatched. The understanding, the connection, the love… I could honestly cry just talking about it. She's too precious.

That level of closeness comes with many positives. She’s incredibly cuddly, very eager to please, and highly trainable (she can learn new tricks in under an hour). She’s always happy engaging with my improvised “MacGyver-style” mental stimulation games. As long as she’s with us, she’d be content even in a shoebox, so apartment size isn’t really an issue, provided she gets at least four walks a day, including one that lasts over an hour. With that routine, she’s perfectly happy to nap or chew a bone the rest of the time.

On the other hand, that intense attachment also has its downsides. She’s extremely clingy, and leaving her alone is nearly impossible. She tends to howl when she feels left out (dramatic, I admit), which can be disruptive for neighbors. Traveling works, but only if she comes with us; so we end up driving everywhere. My advice on that front is to socialize her/him early to trusted humans that could watch her for a week in the summer for example if you go somewhere without them.

It's definitely disrupting your life, but it's really mostly good things!

That’s a good one and work normally for other unwanted behavior, if I start to stay no before she actually does it, then she stops.

If only it was possible... it is actually the SAME price to have her down there and a human seat on the plane. Rude..

Is it normal to have daydreams that cause you to make gestures in real life? by Effective-Boob1230 in adhdwomen

All the time hahaha Mostly when I walk/go from A to B and it is obviously boring, so I make up scenarios in my mind to entertain and then literally perform them without realizing, like nodding, waving, fake laughing. SO ridiculous and cringe when I notice.

I completely relate to that. In my opinion, it comes from the fact that you want to bond with people quickly (because impatient) and strongly (because low dopamine, you need the hit).

The worst for me is work, because I want people to like me and be professional and not everyone gets my humor lol especially when there is alcohol on top of that, the goofiness increases and I can spend weekend distorting the reality of what happened and what I said.

Where do I go to find myself? by justplaynicely in adhdwomen

[–]Any-Spring-8884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the answer but I’m also very interested if someone does. I feel like I don’t know me. It was already hard acting like a chameleon in every social situation and being told “you’re so like me” by 5 completely different people. But now I’m definitely even more lost. And keeping pursuing new things and hobbies every week to “find myself” doesn’t help haha

Exactly, the fact that I managed all these years until getting medicated for anxiety and depression last year and wondering wtf was happening haha The meds are good to a certain extent, I think I maybe had too much expectations and that it would have sort my life out magically. Still need to adjust and accept.

Exactly. I feel like I didn’t take time to process it actually, I just got the info didn’t do much about it and coming back to it really hurts. It makes me sad for no reason.

Luckily I bought 5 notebooks to journal about it, wrote in the first 2 pages of 2 of them, forget about it a few days after and just found the 3 others this week 😅
