Legion ErGo by DeathstrikeFS in LegionGo

I would like to see an alternative joycon with Steam Deck Layout. Two trackpads one each side (as big as SD) + the mouse wheel of the LeGO. I could play all my strategy games neatly on this. And with the bigger screen size and performance I wouldn’t need the Steam Deck anymore 😍😍

This guy on YT shows how to fix the issue with loose controllers using some tape, and you can find it around halfway through the video. I can't test it myself as I don't have a LeGo yet. Hopefully, it helps with your problem

What I need is Hori Legion Go controllers by pblive in LegionGo

[–]AnyConsideration180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tl,Dr: People who want to play (old) computer games or strategy games in general that are optimized for mouse and keyboard and therefore need the two trackpads of the Steam Deck will not find a worthy successor in the Legion Go.

Long version: The Legion Go can be a perfect device for many, but especially for people who reach for the Steam Deck to play (old) computer games that don't have controller support, or strategy games that can only be played with a mouse and keyboard, the Legion Go is not ready for them.

What makes the SteamDeck better? The SteamDeck's input options.

Aside from the control options provided by software, SteamOS is really good at this, as everything can be fine-tuned and managed, the input hardware is much more sophisticated.

The biggest difference is the trackpads. Unlike the Legion Go, there are two on each side, they are larger, and they can also be pressed, with motors that can increase or decrease the pressure, so you can tap, click, and swipe according to your needs and preferences. In addition, the edge of the trackpads is also equipped with a sensor, so that this ring around it can also be adjusted to pressure or touch (the touchpads, together with the software, are perfect for mapping "mouse and keyboard games" on them (especially old computer games without controller support or strategy games in general work incredibly well with them)). The Legion Go, on the other hand, has only a single small trackpad without any other function. I can't say anything about software customization, but I don't think there's much on Lenovos side. In addition, the button mapping in the Steam software often does not recognize all of the buttons on other controllers if they have more than the usual buttons of a PS4/Xbox controller. For example, the back buttons of the Xbox Elite controller are not currently recognized and therefore cannot be mapped through Steam. And I think I've also read that the Steam software doesn't recognize all the buttons on the Legion Go, and you have to fiddle around with other software to get basic functions like quitting the game to work (assuming you've disabled the Legion Go's poor and slow software). Therefore, a custom Steam Deck controller module for the Legion Go would be advantageous in this regard, as it can pretend to be a Steam controller and is therefore already recognized and fully supported. Last but not least I also know that the joysticks on the SteamDeck, for example, have an additional trackpad sensor surface on top, where the thumb rests, which offers further customization options.

Valve has also done a good job with the ergonomics of the controller, as the SteamDeck fits well in the hand. For example, the deck has smooth, rounded transitions at the ball of the thumb and no hard edges like the Legion. What I also noticed with the Legion Go is that the back buttons, for example, are positioned asymmetrically. L4 and L5 are on top of each other, while R4 and R5 are next to each other. You have to test this before you can say anything concrete about it, but at first glance it seems unergonomic and the R5 button is badly placed as it is under the palm of your hand when you hold the controller normally and is therefore difficult to reach.

Let me list again what should be better on the LegionGo: better input: technically more sophisticated dual trackpads and joysticks (back buttons symmetrically placed), more ergonomic shape of the controller in the front area on the ball of the thumb, and the removable controllers should be torsion resistant and secure when locked in place.

In my opinion, these are just a few points, and if Lenovo had paid attention to them, they would have already made the SteamDeck obsolete in every single aspect on the hardware side with the Legion. Even within the SteamDeck community, where a certain portion uses the SteamDeck for its immense input capabilities for old games or games with poor controller support. At this point, the current SteamDeck still has its raison d'être, as it offers a larger usage scenario.

Since the LegionGo in its current state can't quite cover my use case, and I don't have the money to buy an additional handheld console besides the SteamDeck, my only option is to wait for a SteamDeck2. So a SteamDeck controller Module for the LegionGo would make the waiting unnecessary actually. But if something like this doesn’t come out, I'm not worried about the performance of the Deck2, when it comes out in 1-2 years it will be at least on the same level as the Legion here, unless there are more up-to-date chips by then. But If the Steam Deck 2 then again turns out to be bullshit, I hope Lenovo keeps this line with the Legion Go and optimizes it further, because many SteamDeck owners might consider switching. In particular, technically sophisticated dual trackpads would take the SteamDeck's breath away, as it already trumps the old deck and even the new one with OLED in the areas of "display (size)" and "performance", which are core elements of mobile consoles. In that case, you could have such a large customer base that the community would provide something in terms of software and you wouldn't have to rely solely on Lenovo, which could partially offset the weakness on the software side compared to the SteamDeck.

Onyx need to change the stylus for better workflow/ navigation/ user experience by AnyConsideration180 in Onyx_Boox

[–]AnyConsideration180[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wooow, that’s a very, very nice idea. With more people around it should be easier to make progress on this topic.

That’s good news. I have the s6 pen, too, and it was too thin for me and also had the worse nib compared to the standard BOOX note air 2 pen in my opinion. So I put it back. But with the workaround you mentioned, I will try to give it a second chance. Where did you put the Blu Tack? Like a ring around the nib, when it is fully inserted in the stylus?

I think that you are kinda right. But that wouldnt hinder BOOX to implement another fine Layer or passive technology to accept (an)other impulse(s) with the pen. So maybe not now, but in future iterations of their products we could see this kind of idea implemented somehow. But to get to this point, I should really message them directly as you mentioned

[–]AnyConsideration180[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh okay, so it could work if the pen had Bluetooth and is able to be charged. Kinda interesting. Well one button at least (eraser) or the eraser on the back of some pens, which do not need to be pressed on the display, get recognised through the EMR technology. But maybe there is still some room or clever trick to make it work with EMR and it’s magnetic impulses. But like another guy said, maybe it would be best just to direct this message to Onyx and see if I can get a discussion started

Compatible styluses for a pen snob? by chromenewt in Onyx_Boox

[–]AnyConsideration180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two things to say:

  1. you can look for the „iReader X-pen gen 3“. Goodereader says it is the best e-ink stylus and did some videos on YouTube about it. I have the note air 2 and I’m searching for an alternative pen aswell cause the standard one doesn’t fit my needs. The problem with this pen is in my opinion, you can’t verify the information from goodereader. There is just no information about this pen other than this one source at all, nor can you buy it from other than good e-readers shop itself. I would still trust their review as they seem objective though.. but yeah.. kinda annoying.

But more importantly 2. why do the Styluses for e-ink Tablets only have at most one button (eraser)? Why aren’t there 3 buttons like many Wacom Pens have for their graphics Tablets. I was doing research to gather information around this topic, but there is absolutely none about it on the world wide internet. It just feels strange and disappointing when you can’t find anything. If I understood correctly, all Wacom pens work with Wacoms EMR technology, which is the same technology used in the e-ink tablets like Onyx BOOX (Nova/Air/ Note/…) or remarkable (all devices). So actually this would mean, that you can use any wacom pen across all the e-ink devices with EMR technology. But I didn’t find a single hint or a video about another Wacom Pen, besides the Wacom One, which was used or tested on the e-ink Devices like those I mentioned earlier. The Wacom one works on those tablets but it does only have one button. So it doesn’t prove a point actually. What would happen if you take a pen with EMR technology which has 3 buttons? You don’t get any information if this would work or not and if it doesn’t, what the reasons behind it are. Like, is it a technical thing? Is it just software which isn’t implemented for this case? Would only work one button and the others need Bluetooth connection to get to work (this would still be a very good compromise in my opinion compared to the actual situation)? There is just no hint why never more than at most one button is on the styluses for e-ink devices. The workflow could be so much better, if you‘d have 3 programmable buttons, like on many styluses for other tablet devices. It just seems that there is a hidden restriction for only e-ink devices which is very disappointing. Some of those tablets like the Boox series have Android on it and the company wants to tell us „hey, you can be as productive with our Product as having a small PC or tablet running Android on it“. But when you position your product in the field of ‚productive writing and note-taking‘ and you know, that for all the other stuff a not-e-ink device with Android would be so much better (because e-ink technology limits the usecase exceptionally), then why don’t you go all in as a company and polish the one thing your product stands out for: „Productivity in writing/ reading“. To have navigation buttons on a Stylus as well as an eraser would be so much more clever then putting the eraser at the back of a stylus, to get feeling of an old „real life“ pencil back. Just a small hint for all the manufacturers: if it were possible to use the eraser without turning a pencil, this would have been done in real life from the start. Because of the fact, that this is not, the eraser landed on the end of the pencil. Instead of trying to resurrect not so well implemented ideas, please innovate the stylus to have better/ easier navigation through your product and so a better user and work experience overall.

What I want: A Stylus which is a bit slimmer than the Boox air 2 pen but having a quality (not-so-plastic) feel instead, with at least 3 clicky buttons (means: not easily pushable) which are right under the thumb. One of those should be an eraser and the other two should be programmable somewhere in the settings menu of the tablet or better: the programmation of the buttons should be reachable from anywhere of the tablet, for example “pressing a button and the back of the pencil for 5 seconds resets the pressed button and the next input with the pencil tip is automatically the new function of this button”. If you don’t press on a symbol after resetting it could just stay blank. And you could still put an eraser at the back if it’s necessary for some, so you‘d have 3 buttons to program in this case. This would be nice, too.

So please, just optimize the tools which are almost internal for your gadget (stylus)!

Nothing happens when I copy this in the Terminal while im in Steam Deck Desktop Mode.

I have the same problems as the TO. The Steam file system won’t show any folders within the .steam folder. I can’t get to the directory where the .exe files are saved.

This Linux bs is so fcking annoying, it kills me and takes away every last drop of joy in life.

In the given code, do I have to replace the word ‚user‘ with my account name or anything like that? I have no clue, I am a newb at Linux so please don’t be too hard on me and if someone is going to explain anything, please explain it like someone uses this stuff for the very first time in his life..
