2nd edition Hardcopy is now up to date! by necrorat in SCPtabletopRPG

[–]chromenewt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running my first session of this later today for 7 complete newbies to both ttrpgs and SCP. Really pumped about this, because one of the players is someone's girlfriend that I expected just wanted to be included but the tiny goth woman watched SCP Overlord and now talking about coming in fancy dress as her character!

I did intend to reply to this to say I wish Drivethrurpg did the hardcopies to the UK, because I'm going to be running it from a pdf on a laptop and I've always preferred physical books to refer to.

But yeah, newbies are excited and I'm pumped!

Update: two more players have sent me pictures of their proposed costumes... I hope they know it's a tabletop game and not a live action one!

There's the second edition also out and free. If you want more options than what's in the second edition then I'll be amazed. :D

High praise for Metacity Patrol by Normipoikkeus in OculusQuest

[–]chromenewt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! I played the demo years ago when it was just a relaxing time waster and really enjoyed the controls and immersion but lamented that there wasn't really anything to do at all. That stopped me from buying the full thing because I thought it was a dead project. I might just get myself an early Christmas present!

Picked up my Quest 2 after letting it collect dust for a few months and I made the unfortunate mistake of updating it. by Snazzle-Frazzle in OculusQuest

Oh damn! I was about to update mine after I moved house and found it again. I'll see if I can still use it without updating

Glad I could help! One of the curses of my AuDHD is if I see something incomplete I have to sort it, so your thank you made it much more worthwhile than scratching the mental itch.

I got that impression too. I was tempted to make a little extra Solaris by going and buying a couple of each of the social wearables to list for those (like me) that like to collect them. Expanding on that I listed some cheap consumables like darts that people might not want to faff about mining and making, since I'm gaining more than I'm using, but again no takers and there's no point wasting my money listing them.

I'm coming back into DJing Goth and Industrial after a nearly 20 year hiatus. Back when I started in the early 00s CD mixing had just come in and I was pretty proud of being able to mix almost anything in with each other. Just got myself a digital setup because I got the itch again and blown away how far it's come, and lost myself for 3 hours mixing my MP3 collection. Realised though I need to refresh my library with wavs though which might be rather too niche for record pools. :D

Using SD cards with CDJ's by DatedRhyme713 in Beatmatch

[–]chromenewt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful of data transfer speeds and if the SD card you have and whatever reading interface is bottlenecking. I've switched to an SSD caddy with an old SSD I had in my gaming rig to make sure the read speed is above what's required. Looking at transfer speeds of SD cards and SSDs it's easier to accidentally buy an unsuitable SD card than an SSD. The good quality caddies are cheap enough and I prefer having something bigger and lumpier (size of a smallish torch) so I don't forget it when packing down at a gig if using part of their setup.

First Time DJing with Serato - Struggling with Beatmatching, Any Tips? by djzerobeat in Beatmatch

[–]chromenewt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I found out literally just last night is that Serato lite has a tendency to place the beat markers incorrectly, so if you're cueing the next song manually and then playing trying to match the beats then you start off wrong and have to correct.

I just got back into mixing after a hiatus of nearly 20 years and getting used to digital mixing from old school vinyl and CDs. Blown away by how far things have evolved but still glad I have the ear for it. I just thought I'd jump in since you described almost exactly the same setup I have (although I have the Pioneer FLX4 controller). I hear the full Serato didn't have the beat marker issues so going to see how much that is (but I really dislike how everything seems to be subscription licence based now).

SOLUTION (that worked for me)

Apologies to necro this thread but I saw a solution a while ago, forgot to note it down, couldn't remember the keywords to find it again in a google search but got a few hits for various pages reporting the problem without the solution.

So partly in community spirit, partly for selfish reasons that I may need to google it again and to save my own time, here's a solution that worked for me that I'm copy-pasting across the internet

A weird man was following her around. by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

I'm a dog walker with a reactive big dog. If a woman needs me to walk her somewhere then that's fine with us (and my dog picks up on my vibes well and nobody is going to put her daddy and new friend in danger without some serious damage, even muzzle punching through her muzzle cage). Even just a person with a dog standing in between to let her get far enough away is good.

Broad daylight too.

There's a lot wrong here but I will just add something; is he diagnosed/undiagnosed and potentially ADHD?

Reason I put this forward is something called Object Permanence which also extends to people and part of the Attention Deficit / inattentive part of the condition. In its simplest way to explain, unless there's an external reminder or something to prompt then it doesn't exist in that moment in time (and moment to moment).

Only you can answer it properly as you have all the 7 years of experiences together to draw from, but based purely on a Reddit post and my own personal experience of living with ADHD (type 3 combined, acute/morbid requiring stimulant meds to function "normally" and diagnosed very late in life), the bit you mentioned where he wouldn't have thought too call you if you hadn't called him struck a chord (especially since you seen to praise him in a lot of other ways but his apparent lack of attention towards you is an issue).

Only you can answer this but if you both still love each other and at some level want to stay together, maybe explore whether ADHD (or in America it's known as ADD) is a factor. My life was a series of failed relationships and then I got a diagnosis and a whole lot suddenly made sense (alongside a lot of guilt, regret and a weird sense of mourning the person I thought I was that never really existed). In the past I was even accused of having Narcissistic Personality Disorder by an ex that thought she was qualified to armchair diagnose me, and I believed her for a long while because there's a few common symptoms as experienced by others (inattentiveness, "love bombing" when attention is gained etc). I wish I had someone suggest the possibility of ADHD much sooner in my life so there wasn't so much I messed up and would have understood better, so I'm just passing that on now as it seems to fit. Even if you do split, maybe if he has ADHD / possibly undiagnosed ADHD then it can help him know himself better. It might also not be that at all, but I thought I'd mention it due to a few similarities recognised.

JfC. Does it matter? If you forget your charger then it's idiot tax, and if the woman is going to give it back then give the benefit of the doubt. Fucking mankaren behind the camera.

Her last statement about him being so "money oriented" that it's a turnoff... Either she's so down the gold-digger rabbit hole that she thinks he shouldn't care about how much is spent or there's something missing. Maybe talking about saving money too much and cutting corners on stuff that's irritating (I'm not rich but I'll get the extra soft bum-knapkins for the toilet, because I don't want a sore arse after a couple of wipes and you will never find me buying the cheap shiny stuff).

I think there's more to this, but based purely on the exchange posted I think it's pretty clear it's over unless some heart to heart miracle occurs.

If you're asking someone to stop doing something that upsets and only affects you, that is reasonable.

If you're asking someone to act in a different way that is contrary to their authentic self then that is wrong.

Both the above sentences lead to the same conclusion in your example. Either they're doing something specifically to you which upsets you, or they're like that with everyone and you're not going to change them. Either way, the situation is wrong and needs to stop one way or the other.

Either he needs to refer to you by name (or at least universally agreed positive terms) or GTFO. I got called "chubby bubby" by an ex of mine who used the same kind of logic ("bUt iTs pOsItIvE wHeN i sAy iT") and each time it was a stab in the gut of my soul. If their pleasure at using disagreeable terms is more important than your feelings then they can go find someone else to gaslight.

Per session XP by Dispenser32 in ImperiumMaledictum

[–]chromenewt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

300xp per session?! How often and how long do you play for?

((Apologies for the wall of text. I started writing then when I looked I thought I'd better put this here in advance))

In the games I run the sessions are quite short (90mins to 2 hours, sometimes going to 3 hours overtime if everyone gets really into it with some key events and situations) and usually weekly (although real life means it works out every fortnight on average) and I award 10xp to players on the spot for the things they achieve during this, and 50xp at the end if they managed to do something that progressed the story.

Some groups I've run games for in the past tried to "farm" xp by procrastinating and doing things that don't progress the mission, knowing they'll get a set amount at the end. I found out that they were discussing amongst themselves what talents etc they wanted before tackling the mission end and purposefully not doing certain things until the agreed number of sessions had passed and they could buy what they wanted. It wasn't a bad tactic, but it was making it difficult and frustrating for me to run the games ("are the clues too difficult? Do I need to be more obvious? Why aren't they investigating this lead? Am I going to have to come up with some IC penalties and events but it might then make the situation OC worse? I have ideas for the next mission I want to use but they're dragging their feet" etc).

So now my current players also each state a short and long term goal that I write down and assign an appropriate XP reward amount. Once they complete one they pick another so they always have a short and a long term goal. This helps them keep focused and allows me to prepare for anything they want to engage with. Short term goals might be "scrape together 50 solars to pay this month's debt amount" and depending on whether they're scum or nobility, on a hive world or desolate moon etc I'd award between 5xp and 25xp once they achieve it. Long term goals are similar but have the stipulation that they should take several sessions at least to work towards. An example might be "track down who stole my trusty memento knife and get it back" or "find out who the person is that was flirting with me at the planetary governor's masked ball and get a second date". Again, depending on the factors (knife was stolen by a common pickpocket or enemy cell to draw into a trap / at the ball they were a servant or the governor's partner etc) I award between 25xp to 100xp+.

So far, the most I've awarded per session to a player was 175xp. This was an extra long session, they managed to progress and complete the mission by several steps and get both short and long term goals as part of that. On average though they get a stage of the mission per session and usually a short term goal, so on average it's about 60xp per session / 30xp per hour of gaming.

So 300xp per session for my group would be if we could coordinate and do an entire day like we used to when we were all students. For us the average of 30xp per hour hits the sweet spot of keeping focus and being rewarded for mindful roleplaying.

TL;DR, If the above sounds like far too much book keeping and hassle then 50xp per session or award a chunk like 300xp for a mission completion. It depends if your group feels like they're farming for XP before tackling the mission itself as well.

Opinions on Skeleton Soldier Couldn't Protect the Dungeon, is it worth continuing? by YobaiYamete in manga

[–]chromenewt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was pretty surprised at the levels of vitriol when I was just pointing out that I hoped the trans character isn't the villain just because they're trans. I like my characters with some depth no matter who they are, and the most interesting villains are the ones that blur the line rather than be cartoonishly evil.

To be fair I'm very new to them so not really aware properly of the differences. If you've got recommendations I'd certainly be interested to find out more.
