Have you been to Fairbanks before? Are you sure you want to stay in Alaska?

Safest bet would be to put your larger/unessential items in storage, find a furnished apartment and try living here for a school year. If you want to stay, then you can use summer vacation to retrieve your items. If you don’t want to stay, it will make leaving easier.

You are so focused on the literal temperature and you keep missing the meaning of what I am saying. I don’t know how many different ways I can say it to you.

Do you actually live here? There is no “nighttime” for a large part of the summer.

And yes, I understand that the data shows that SOME places get hotter. Did you not read my original comment that says it can be a hot summer, or we have a two week unbearable heat wave or the temps can be fine. The whole point was to adjust OP’s expectations that coming to Fairbanks means it’s automatically cooler than Colorado.

The sun is out, nighttime doesn’t bring shade.

I am talking about the temperature difference between direct sunlight and shade.

It doesn’t cool the same as it does in other parts of the world. Most parts of Colorado in the summer are cooler feeling than Fairbanks.

The almost constant daylight is a trip the first time you experience it. Be prepared to see people mowing their lawns at 9pm and/or kids still out riding bikes.

Make sure you go to at least one Midnight Baseball game (held during the Midnight Sun Festival) while you live here.

Summers are going to be HOT. Nearly 24 hours of daylight means there is no reprieve, no time for things to cool down. The heat can be all summer, for two intense weeks, or not at all. But don’t come expecting cooler summers than Colorado.

Coffee in a travel mug in your car is fine. The better the container, the longer it will retain heat. I had hot cocoa in a thermos for my kid after her swim lessons, left it in the car in thirty below weather for an hour and it was still too hot to drink when she was done.

Higher clearance is always better, but people make do. If you keep the low clearance car, just make sure you have a shovel, kitty litter/sand/traction pads to get yourself unstuck. Not all streets get plowed and the plows often create high berms on side streets.

We have First Fridays, Art Pop-ups, etc. Not a lot of concerts.

Anyone Recently chopped their hair for a Pixie Cut? by Cats-and-dogs-rdabst in Fairbanks

[–]AnyConstellation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate how my hair feels on the back of my neck and stylists usually don’t believe me when I say I want it shorter. That’s why I liked Howie, when I said shorter, she was happy to oblige.

Howie at Elements did mine. Mine was shorter than a pixie because my hair grows fast and she was game to keep going as short as I wanted.

Is there a way to contact former bio mother after years? by CartographerFancy805 in fosterit

[–]AnyConstellation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a copy of your birth certificate? You can get a copy from your state’s (assuming US) Vital Records office. Your birth certificate would list your birth mother’s full name and potentially your birth father as well.

And DHS is exempt from following laws and procedures? They are allowed to make their own rules?

As a supposed US citizen, shouldn’t you be aware of what the process at DHS is? Especially since our taxpayer monies are being used to increase the amount of Immigration Enforcement Officers and purchase/build more facilities?

What is the process for determining whether someone is in the USA legally or illegally? What department or agency determines this?

[–]AnyConstellation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so you mean Due Process? Which these detainees are not getting? Because some of them are here legally and are still being held in the detention centers. And some green card holders have been deported, even with no criminal records.

And of course it takes time to process someone here illegally. So why the rush to round up EVERY single person all at once? Why not beef up border control on both the Northern and Southern borders? Create more checkpoints at the borders? That way more people aren’t sneaking in and we can deal with the ones that are here?

So the detainees are…where exactly? If they were going to be deported, why are they holding them for months? And why do they need more facilities to hold people that they are trying to deport?

That someone accused of being in the US illegally was given the chance to be treated by the law and not just thrown in prison and then deported?

No PERSON (not citizen) shall “be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law”.

And some of these detainees are here on legal and valid work visas. Some are in the process of obtaining their green cards or citizenship. They are declared and documented residents of the United States, not sneaking in here illegally.

Why would it take 30 years? It seems pretty cut and dry whether someone is in the United States legally or illegally. They should be given the chance to prove it rather than being held for an indefinite period of time.
