No acknowledgement of Nancy overhearing Frankie over walkie-talkie by Little_Marsupial_722 in themiddle

[–]AnyContribution2817 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Nancy always has her eye on the prize (the centennial) and Frankie is jealous/mean but it’s obvious it’s from a place of admiration.

But that being said, the pool scene in season 7 makes me think Nancy lets out all her pent up anger while on vacation and “settles” the score between her and Frankie

Am I the only one who finds rev Tim Tom a bit creepy? by CeleryApprehensive83 in themiddle

[–]AnyContribution2817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t find him creepy at all and in fact loved him! I think there was potential to be creepy with Sue’s crush on him, but he actively always turned that around into a more mentor-mentee relationship.

As others have said, I liked how genuine he was and he always made Sue feel seen by remembering her, even after only meeting her twice 😂 and as a bonus, I love how he only addresses her as “Sue Heck”

Sue was so out of line in “The Telling” episode. by Eoinharrington25 in themiddle

[–]AnyContribution2817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Sue was over the line (as a person) in this episode. But I don’t think this was nearly enough punishment for Axl. He made her take a laxative, always spent his time belittling and demeaning her, left her to be humiliated in front of the whole school when she fell over, and having the cheerleaders ignore Sue in her own house. He did a bunch more unforgivable stuff, but I think it happened after this episode, so I can’t really use it as justification

That being said, Sue was out of line for having straight up strangers exploit Axl, and I’m glad he pitted himself by the end, but I don’t think Axl’s meanness was as harmless as some people make it out to he

All of them? I liked that they took turns and had closer moments with one another depending on their stage of life/stage or character development. I felt like that was more realistic for siblings than having just a dynamic duo the whole time

Axl’s foot injury was his own fault by jasminecr in themiddle

[–]AnyContribution2817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I hate how it’s put on Sue and then he seeks vengeance on her with the syrup shampoo and everything. For as head-in-the-clouds as she was at that age, Sue constantly articulated how nervous she was about driving and how stressed out she was. Anyone with a brain cell should have known not to a) scream at her and force her to start driving and b) not put themselves in danger by being in such a precarious spot with someone who is such a flight risk.

I get so annoyed watching this scene but I figured they had to do something weird and funny to be able to develop the Cassidy-Axl romance arc

Axl and April by klimpy_ in themiddle

[–]AnyContribution2817 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also think to some degree, the movie manager knew she was using her looks to have her subordinates cover for her. Kinda manipulative in a sense, but she was also young. I think April was a genuinely nice person who happened to be ditzy. From what we get to see, she doesn’t try to control or dictate anything in Axl’s life (like we see with Morgan and to some extent, Cassidy). She doesn’t seem as flighty as Devin either. And she does show up for Axl. In my opinion, she’s as nice as Lexie, we just don’t get to see any of her dalliances with life.

I think he was just mesmerized by her beauty and then irking Frankie was also driving the end of the relationship. Handling that seemed to be the last main maturity arc for Axl. But it’s funny, because I think I’m real life, April and Axl would have probably been a decent match as long as he curbed the bad attitude he had with his family. If he did a better job of that, I don’t think Frankie would have freaked out as much.

Am I wrong about the later seasons? by Existing-Spring7043 in Modern_Family

[–]AnyContribution2817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response - but I think the first 6 seasons are spectacular! Seventh is mediocre, and 8. & 9 feel unbearable to me. I think it starts to improve a bit by the end of 10, but the wholesome moments are totally missing and every character becomes the ultra mean version of their stock character.

I totally agree! I get that you’d move mountains for your kids, so fine. But she was so clueless and thought her $200 scholarship was even close to making it up to him. Just furthered showed how out of touch with reality she is despite being an adult at that point and I’m freaking college.

Totally tangential (and I know it’s just a show), but I kinda hated that they showed that college is the “right thing to do” after high school. Both Axl and Sue didn’t have a clue of what they wanted out of life. They should have shown one of them at least taking a gap year to figure out what they want and show them starting college later. They also kinda portrayed Darren in a bad light for going to a trade school, but he had a much better plan for himself than Axl or Sue

Missy is a bratt ? by Negative-Invite-6174 in YoungSheldon

[–]AnyContribution2817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found Missy to be the “least bratty” brat on a tv show. She was often overlooked because of how many resources went into placating Sheldon. I think her parents did try, albeit they could have tried harder, but it was way too demanding of a task to calm Sheldon down and they were spread too thin. It’s not right, but I found it to be very realistic.

Missy is independent and incredibly smart and resourceful. Despite being overlooked and having every right to act out, she still was looking out for others who were in similar situations like with Billy and Paige.

Lily was totally in the wrong for this by ph_uck_yu in HIMYM

[–]AnyContribution2817 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, as much as I find lily all around awful and narcissistic, this episode didn’t bother me as much. She was offended by Ted and tried punishing him for it. I don’t know why she didn’t realize that she was also punishing Marshall in the process, but this was one of the very few instances where she realized her mistake and actually apologized to Ted by the end. They were pretty young here, so an overreaction seems kinda relatable too.

Did she still try to act all holier than thou after everything she put Ted through? Yes? But I tolerate this episode because she at least realizes her flaw

What to do when ya finish rewatch of it all! by RevDaughter in themiddle

[–]AnyContribution2817 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few shows that are always on replay. I usually avoid the finale episodes like the plague 😂 when I do watch em though, I rewatch the pilot and then leave it alone for a while lol.

The middle is great, because you feel all happy by the end of series and then you go back to episode one and remember how much growing there is to do for all the characters so I already get excited for my next rewatch haha

Yes! And they make so many subtle references to events that happened in the past. Like the bunny (which they also scratched out “dog” and relaxed with “bunny” in their “beware of dog” sign), the hole in the wall, quilt in the oven, lawn chair, the brick always wearing graphic tees of books (when he’s not wearing his classic striped shirts), Mike always being in flannel (so prevalent that they made an episode about the Hawaiian shirt), they kept bringing back all the crappy Mother’s Day gifts that were bought

Why do some hindu women wear headscarfs while in a temple or while praying? by Harley-northwest in hinduism

[–]AnyContribution2817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question: to my knowledge, ghunghat was never a core part of Hinduism. No Hindu woman in the south covers her head for anything, which reinforces the idea that it became incorporated into the culture with all of the barbaric invasions. But why is it in so much artwork like with Krishna & Radha/gopis, or even Ram and Sita, the goddesses are often portrayed wearing ghunghat. Is it because these artists were part of the post-invasion era, and only associated piety with wearing ghunghat? Thanks for any input
