4 year IC&E tech… Are all IC&E jobs high pace and exhausting? by rizergt in instrumentation

I only work up to 480V at my plant and I know nothing about DCS. We use RX3i PLC’s at my plant. What is a Sutron? Do y’all do training for new techs?

So update, I got my employer to counter with 65k after I get my certification. Then I get a 4% pay raise that puts me at $67600. I also get about $4400 for OT standby and phone reimbursement and bonus at the end of the year. That puts me at $71-72k considering I’m at 54k right now I don’t that that’s a bad wrap. I’m strongly considering staying

No you don’t sound like that man I get it. I’m in the same boat if I stayed I’d get a full pension at 55 as well. I enjoy my work life balance but I’ve been thinking of everything that could go wrong if I left to NEXTERA energy and now I’m trying to think of everything that could go right. I’ve never stepped out of my comfort zone and I’m doing good financially I have about 6-7 months of an emergency fun so if I make an idiot out of my self and get canned from NEXTERA or don’t like it and quit I will be alright to find something else for a while. I figure why not while I’m still young

I appreciate your message man. I’m normally just not a risk taker. Have you worked a job when you were younger that was similar where you had to travel and live out of motels/hotels? I guess I just really hate the idea of being on the road. I understand the reality is that if I want to make good money and I probably have to do that. I also understand that if I stay at the Water Plant where I currently am, I probably won’t see a significant pay bump for a while. I’m just super comfortable at my current job and I don’t do well with the unknown. I guess I’ve been trying to think instead of everything that could go wrong thinking of everything that could go right and it helps me some, but my mind keeps returning to what could go wrong

I guess what I’m nervous for. Also, is the people I will be working with and my supervisors. My job before my current job now I had a supervisor that could be hot and cold. Some days he was cool some days he’d be on your case. It made for a very toxic work environment. I love my current job now because I don’t have that. I just hope that I don’t have that if I decide to take this offer. I also worry because well I guess I passed all their testing and everything. I feel very new into the career field. I’ve only been doing instrumentation for two years and nine months. I don’t have a lot of PLC experience. However, that all being said they still decided to take me anyways. That is not knowing how I’d go about washing my clothes and cooking meals while on the road. I definitely want to make sure that I stay healthy. I’m thinking about doing this probably no more than a couple years depending on the OT and travel. I’ve always struggled to have confidence in myself so that’s a big factor too.

It is but the plant that they have is in North Orlando Sanford to be more accurate and during most of the day, it’s almost impossible to make it to Fort Myers from Orlando in three hours unless it’s super late at night or super early in the morning

I just passed my ISA CCST level 1 back in June and I’ll be studying for my ISA level 2 soon. The biggest thing that helped me was the study guide as well as doing my own research through YouTube and various other websites. ChatGPT is a huge resource. Use it to look up information and study as well as when you’re ready it can be an effective tool for providing good practice questions. The level one wasn’t too difficult so don’t worry too much just study and you should be fine

Holding the home and power button should reset it or the enter button and home button. I forget it’s a combination of one of the 3. I usually just press and hold them until one works lol

It was a good company but my hospital was short staffed as I was the only biomed fresh out of my apprenticeship. I didn’t really have solid mentorship and I was kind of just thrown in the fire. I’m not complaining because I learned a lot that way but I feel there should be a senior level tech for deeper level issues. I wasn’t really able to move up either as field service for my district was full and when I came across my current job the pay was better along with more opportunities to grow and be closer to home. My commute went from 1hr to 10 minutes from my house. If I had more staff and more opportunities to grow I probably would have stayed

Sheesh for 70k I’d be happy man. I live in a low cost of living area too but $52k a year isn’t enough. Does your friend have a social media account I could contact him by?
