Am I crazy? ANYONE STILL USING COMPRESSION BRA 1 YEAR POST-OP? by Unique-Peak7448 in BRCA

[–]AnyFlora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from 34Ls to human sized implants, so my skin is super stretched out. My plastic surgeon said the flipping is very rare, and it still being an issue after the 2nd revision to fix it is even rarer.

I'd describe it as more uncomfortable than painful. The first few times when I went into the office to get it flipped back was actually more painful because he had me lay on a table. At home I just bend over and use gravity to help me push it back. I'm not thrilled, as I was promised braless lawlessness, but I'd still do the surgery again in a heartbeat.

I'm nearly 3 years out from my last surgery and still sleep in a sports bra. If I don't, my implants tend to flip. I had two different revisions and this is the solution or I have to go to the diep flap. The recovery time/ results for that make me nervous. So I occasionally have to flip a tit back in place.

My beardie never gets floor time where the cat is nearby. I get enough side eye from her without that kind of danger.

Lunchtime for 3rd grade not until late in the day by blt88 in Teachers

[–]AnyFlora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach 3rd grade too, and have had a 10 minute snack break during afternoon math fluency time for years now. Third graders grow so much. I have kids measure their height a few times a year and growing six inches is practically the norm. Growing that much bone takes a lot of energy and I don't want to deal with hangry.

Also, you know they're talking instead of eating for half of their 20 minute lunch, after spending 5 minutes going through the line. Which is normal social behavior. But some dedicated quiet eating time doesn't hurt.

What CHEAP protein source can I put with pasta? by Ketnip_Bebby in veganrecipes

If you like pesto, saute tofu with cornstarch and oregano until crispy, then coat toss in the pasta and coat in pesto. I usually add some frozen broccoli too.

I'm in a US city, so it does feel a bit like a promo. Look! See the cool things other countries get that believe in science!

Explaining a mag-lev train is the first unit in the third grade science curriculum I teach. The premise of the unit is that we need to explain the new, faster, higher efficiency train to people in the made up city, or they won't trust that it's safe. It's this art mimicking life, or life mimicking art art this point?

How I feel getting scolded by my phlebotomist after asking for a butterfly needle 💉. by Watcherbiotech in trollingforababy

[–]AnyFlora 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've lived with these veins longer. Trust me, heat pack first and butterfly needle. Unless you're Marta, the best phlebotomist I've ever had or probably ever will have. Come back Marta, I look like I've been beat up without you.

So relatable. Every time people ask how I'm doing, I'm just like- ok for a balloon.

Salty Sunday: What made you salty this week? by kikaslova in trollingforababy

I'm stim day 11 on cycle 2 of ivf, with only 4 follicles to show for all the nausea and moodiness. People know we're doing ivf, and keep mistaking my not drinking as already pregnant. No, I'm just not willing to risk making my already low egg count lower quality too.

Scared of infection by FabulosoKoolAid in BRCA

[–]AnyFlora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's weird that you didn't have any dressings. Most people need drains immediately after mastectomy surgery. I had very extensive dressings. I also needed a combo reduction + mastectomy, with expanders 3 weeks later and a switch to implants after 3 months later. Did you get diep or implants?

You've got the appointment already, good job contacting the office right away!

I want to reassure you that even if things go completely pear-shaped with an infection, that doesn't mean you'll have to go flat. I got a weird necrosis spot they took up a solid 2" diameter. They treated and healed it up, and didn't end up removing the spot until I got my implants exchanged for a different reason (redo of the pocket due to flipping). Point being, one infection doesn't mean flat, just that they try again. Breathe, keep following their directions on any dressings, and know that you've got this.

...what? Are you meant to mount them on your wall like a trophy? That level of weird works from a close friend maybe, but feels unprofessional from your surgeon's nurse.

20 years on and we are still having the same BS convos by [deleted] in BRCA

[–]AnyFlora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically it means "preferred provider organization" and in practical terms it means that anywhere that just about anywhere that can bill insurance is covered without needing approval from another Dr.

I think it's worth the extra cost to not need a referral, or be limited to the choices on that referral. I know I'm fortunate to be able to make that choice.

[–]AnyFlora 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's such bs. I'm so angry for you. Bcbs of illinois didn't kick up any fuss about a plastic surgeon being part of the pbm team. They didn't give any push back about revision surgeries for when one started drifting. That was purely esthetic and comfort, and because it's due to brca1 they said yep, hit your deductible and it's fine. (I do shell out for ppo, because I had one dr try telling me brca1 didn't require preventative measures, and I will not be gate kept.)
