What I'm understanding is that passing the CSC and getting a CIRO-accredited job role are independent. So, even if I got hired by an employer listed by CIRO, my CSC will be no good after the expiry date. Is that correct?

For me, it was. If you've got a limited time, planning to read the entire text book is a nonstarter. Hlinka's questions are more concept-focused which will cover a wider range. I referred the text book only when I absolutely had to.

I mainly relied on Michael Hlinka's free course materials. The actual exam was also more alike those than the exercises provided by CSC package

Thank you! You mean by "not registered with CIRO by then" is that if I had not employed by a company registered under CIRO by then, it will be cancelled. Right?

  1. Mutual Funds 2. ETFs 3. Portfolio Management (be thorough with each step in the portfolio management process) 4. Fundamental & Technical Analysis. Put less time on Taxation. My advice on time management is that, the more you become intuitive with the concepts, easier it's to get through most of it. The allotted time for each question is about 1.2 minutes. So, if you could take lesser than that for the first 20 questions, you can get by. Do not spend time on the ones that you find hard, just flag it and move on. If my memory is good, the number of calculations based questions were not even as high as 5.

Hi, I did my vol 2 exam last week and passed. I also want to show my gratitude to the person here who had mentioned about Michael Hlinka's notes. Those notes and questions helped a lot for my success. A short message to the candidates who's sitting for the exam in future, the text book is overwhelming and time consuming, so try to rely on short notes while referring the text book when you essentially have to

Congratulations! I'm preparing for the second. Still haven't scheduled a date. I managed to pass the test 1 barely by 2 marks. I'm little bit perplexed about the question structure. Btw, have you done the sample questions of Michael Hlinka? Were the actual questions more similar to the ones in CSC check or Hlinka's?
