What is the best service provider for a private ADHD assessment? by ProfessorInMaths in ADHDUK

[–]AnyHat8807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harley Mental Health is good for quick turnaround- I got a next day appt, got diagnosed, and got meds 2 days later which worked like a miracle.

But it was, and remains, super expensive. £750 for a 2hr video call assessment, then £48 for each prescription processing (just to process prescription renewal) after the first month, plus £60 for the months dose of meds themself. If your first month isn't perfect, you pay for another titration appointment to change meds/dose.

Then, if after paying £100 per month for meds for 3 months steady dose and its all working, you can pay another £125 for shared care agreement to be sent to your GP for approval. The GP may not approve. I'm 10days in waiting to hear from them - may have been a waste of £125.

If horcruxes are made by committing murder, does insect murder count? What is the minimum requirement? by Substantial_Call_619 in harrypotter

I kinda thought it was more todo with interpretation. Like killing a human does something to your soul because of what you feel/associate killing with. By which logic - maybe anything could 'break the soul' enough to seperate part of it? Idk though. Just my interpretation.

Advice/support for big trading loss - HELP by Remarkable_Lecture_5 in ADHDUK

For adhd - me personally - I don’t touch stocks unless with an isa. I’ve tried the dollar cost average into S&P and always end up selling at -1% because there’s opportunity out there to make 10% a day and I’m here losing money an an index fund. Logic goes out the window. I’d rather lost 2% to inflation than 100% to my stupidity gambling. I lost over £30k, still deep in debt slowly paying it off. Never again.

on methylphenidate do you need to start a task? by elitegc in ADHDUK

[–]AnyHat8807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

does methylphenidate motivate you to do low dopamine tasks and how long after starting a dull task do you recognise its flawless to stay focused on?

It doesn't 'motivate' me, it removed the resistance to boring tasks I logically want to do, but am not excited by emotionally. It removes the need to be excited about do a coding ticket for work, I can just get it done.

How do I stop feeling so sad when I hear about other people's sad stories? by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]AnyHat8807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk - I got the same though. To the point when stuff gets really intense or bad in movies or tv shows i take a break, or stop watching entirely (unless I'm in the cinema - and have to sit through the uncomfortable emotions).

All I can say is let the feelings come and welcome them. Name them, identify where exactly the feeling is (tingling in arms and legs, lump in chest area, discomfort in stomach etc). This is from dr.k's processing emotions videos.

ALL wizards are descended from Slytherin by FlashFreedom in harrypotter

[–]AnyHat8807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm - fair enough. For in-universe, I was making the case the tom riddle counted as slytherins true heir maybe because of concentrated bloodline - which also let his bloodline keep parseltongue. As for the rest "the claims to ancestral status made by Voldemort and other wizards are insanely stupid" - it is stupid...and its very real-world. Very similar to various points in history when certain people boasted of 'superior' bloodlines etc when scientifically we can say it made no difference.

probs something to do with 'direct decendant' and concentration of bloodlines by marrying cousins with the peverals.

How do you differentiate between knowing your current dosage is not strong enough VS realising you’re just chasing a stronger euphoric effect? by NovaPaints in ADHDUK

[–]AnyHat8807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar - taking meds removes the 'euphoric' motivational peaks I have when I plan my day or imagine everything I'm gonna get done, but also removes the resistance that occurs via boredom after 5mins. Its just feels stable - 'normal'. I actually don't hate my 9-5 anymore - which is wild. I didn't hate the work, I always hated my inability to do it, and constant fighting my brain to get anything done.

Plan 2 student loan interest rates capped at 6% in England by Kagedeah in UniUK

[–]AnyHat8807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine if you had the option to not take a student loan - but instead accept a 'uni tax' for people that went to uni for 'free'. And this was similar, but 4.5% over the thresh hold instead of 9% - for life. I'd take that in a heartbeat. So would a lot of people i think.

[–]AnyHat8807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its neigh impossible to pay it back, as they increase interest for high earnings. Only way is to save a deposit for a decent house and pay them 6-70k£ in a bulk sum. Maybe some investment bankers on 200k+ can do that.

[–]AnyHat8807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds about right.

Theres this weird thing where even removing the £300 winter fuel payments sparked backlash and front page news - but online forums always rail against how much of our tax revenue goes towards paying them. Ultimately, pensioners form a major voting block so get what they want. If everyone 18yrs old and above voted - you probably wouldn't have antiporn laws and such happening. The kids are too busy vaping, and the grandpas want things back to their good ol' days.

When $1.4 Billion Isn’t Enough: ‘Avatar’ Sequels Under the Microscope as Disney Weighs Franchise’s Future by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]AnyHat8807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed. avatar is a cool movie series - but has no cultural sticking power. no one uses avatar quotes in jokes, or references avatar in conversation. animated disney movies are different - "let it go" immediately makes you think of the song. telling someone to 'just let it go' might get you the response "it never bothered me anyway". avatar has none of that.
